‘This is not a balanced approach’

Stumbled across a couple of thought-provoking videos by a YouTube user named Poon, who explains why many in Penang shun the existing public transport system.

One of the big problems is the poor design and accessibility of the bus stops in Penang.

I think Poon has struck a few home truths with these videos.

This appalling state of affairs provides convenient grounds for the state government to turn to expensive mega-projects like the overhead light rail system whereas better, cheaper, faster measures could have gone a long way to reduce congestion in Penang.

Penang Forum members may be also too dependent on private vehicles and hence no constructive feedback to improve RapidPenang performance ?

Planners have no respect for pedestrians and bus users. They assume everyone drive cars. I think CM is also clueless on this matter.

CM Chow is unlike Transport Minister Anthony Like, who has 1st hand account of public experience by himself going to the ground. Interim CM Chow remains in comfort of his Mercedes so definitely cannot relate to the plight of the users and instead listen to his advisers who are basically clueless as well being too dependent on private cars.
If Chow wants the second term, put his ego inside his Mercedes and come out in open to be with the public and not with entourage of his advisors.

I think CM Chow is more concern about balancing his Mercedes tyres for confortable ride on bumpy roads. He must get out of his car, turun padang like Anthony Loke to take RapidPenang to work and experience the troubles and inconvenience of ordinary rakyat. The higher up at Komtar Top he is at, he will lose touch of the plight of ordinary folks.

Election coming and go andtalk to Adun. Rapid is Federal under Anthony. Tell him off. In the past bus stops are under Councils as Bus companies need to seek Council’s permission to route. As for bus stops, that place has more goats than man and hence they may not put the stops at most stragetic and convenient places. Another thing there is no bus lay bys and vehicles from behind may give the bus a kiss from the back

RapidPenang bus arrival schedules (eg using Moovit Apps) are not accurate and have worsen lately.
Apparently state exco in charge of local transport remains clueless or simply push the responsibilities to federal government?
The exco members only ride RapidPenang when there is a new launch (eg the one from Komtar to Bukit Mertajam) or during Anthony Loke’s visits
Many RapidPenang user’s are frustrated and State Government is still over complacent?????

Gerakan has informed the public that Steven Sim is a potential poster boy to replace Chow KY should Harapan retain Penang.
We just have to wait and see.

Why not you ask Anthony how much central gomen has given to Penang in transport projects? Selangor/KL gets billions and Penang only thousands.

When you have people who only drive and never walk or take public transportation to plan/design our infrastructure, you will get disastrous results. Also no integrated planning, plenty of piecemeal ad-hoc jobs resulting poor connectivity.

A lot to learn from Singapore PWD.

Sing apor does not have integrated transport centre. They need a good bus shelter from rain. If mrt or bus arrives every 10 to 15 minutes, time table not important..Time table just to tell you to get ready to board the bus and not to be caught when arrives.

Gerakan has speculated several DAP candidates that will replace Chow as CM.

Actually Gerakan should predict who will replace Dominic in their own party election!

To cross the highway, either chow has to build a footbridge. Pedestrian crossings is no way as vehicles are travelling at higher speed. After building the foot bridge, Penang way. All will still run across the road and the foot bridge will take over A380 jumbo jet as white gajah.

Chow’s Penang has spent a tidy sum to protect heritage sites – includes RM13 mil on Esplanade seawall, RM20 mil for Fort Cornwallis.

Perhaps pedestrian crossing or footpath is not considered heritage?

What is the point of pedestrian crossing or foot path if the no of people using is few? Even tourists is not even a single one. Fort and Esplanade is different. Millions will be using and billions will be coming

Why do chicken not cross the road?

Because there are too many cars and no way they could reach Penang Sentral on foot!

Poon complains there is no golden arch like bus stop and this gives him a good reason not to take public transport? Next he complains, he cant cross the highway and added reasons for not taking public transport. All reasons he gives has nothing to do with the actual bus. No wonder smart Penang Kas left and left behind are those unable to see the difference. BTW, Rapid under Antony is doing something on the right hand and the state gomen maybe blurr as to what Rapid is doing

Valid complaint by Poon so you should appreciate the effort instead of making more noises!

I think many have learnt the bad habits of making noises and accusations like the politicians, notably Kedah MB Sanusi.

Has anyone visited the RM7.4 million luxury house in Sik, Kedah that supposedly belong to Sanusi’s brother? Another Khir Toyo case in the making?

Complain not just to make unreasonable noise. So you want gomen to build more overhead footbridge when no one is going to use and wasting $$$.
