Two heart-rending movies to watch

A stirring movie can be a powerful instrument to raise awareness of social issues that we are not usually attuned to. Here are two commendable Malaysian efforts – Abang Adik, a low-budget film focusing on the plight of the stateless, and Pendatang, a crowdfunded film touching on ethnic relations. Try and watch both if you can over Christmas and the New Year.

Congratulations to the producers and casts. Hopefully, these two films will inspire more indie filmmakers to explore other critical social issues.

What do you think of these two movies?

The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) has suggested that the independent film “Pendatang’” be screened in schools.

Finas chairman Kamil Othman said the film could encourage meaningful conversations about biases.

only here, is 2Rs here and there. Over 60 years after independence, it is still 2Rs. Other countries in SEA, are moving forward and will overtake us inspite of Vietnam war, cambodia war, suharto era and east timor. Look at China, they are talking about AI and have space station. Even India over take England, France and Germany – land spacecraft on moon.
