Two New Year wishes – and a ‘free gift’ for you

I would like to wish all my blog readers a Happy Lunar New Year.

Even if you are not an ethnic Chinese, I hope you will join in the festivities with your friends.

We must not merely practise tolerance or acceptance of our diversity in our everyday lives. We must celebrate it in all its beauty and glory – along with justice, freedom and solidarity.

We cannot rely on the politicians alone to lead us to the promised land of the new Malaysia. We all have to do our part.

On New Year’s Day, 1 January, I had two wishes.

That the federal government will stop the sale of Plus to private entities. Instead of reducing tolls, use the toll revenue to improve public transport and provide subsidies and concession fares to encourage the use of public transport. Part of this wish has come true (the government called off the sale). Now use the toll revenue to boost public transport.

The second wish is for the Penang government to call off its plan to sign the so-called “project delivery partner” agreement with SRS Consortium, which will commit the state to:

  • expensive transport infrastructure, which will not reduce congestion across the state
  • massive ecological damage that will erode our food security
  • a huge debt burden

After all, the federal government has already scrapped the ridiculous “project delivery partner” model elsewhere, so why should Penang be the exception?

Finally, here is the “free gift” I mentioned. Hop over to the Aliran website and subscribe for free to the Aliran weekly newsletters, which will highlight trends, obstacles and possibilities on the path to a new Malaysia. I highly recommend them as they are written by some of the most concerned Malaysians around. (Of course I am “biased” as I am part of Aliran!)

Kiong Hee Huat Tsai! Gong Xi Fa Cai! Kung Hei Fatt Choy!

Whatever the dialect, you know I wish all of you the best in the coming year. May every blessing and joy come your way.

Please help to support this blog if you can.

Anil’s third wish is to have tunglang’s homecoming to anilnetto.com. 心想事成 (xīn xiǎng shì chéng) – May all his wishes come true.

恭贺新禧 Happy New Year to all!

Bayi Yoda

CNY the time to reconcile for Shriek to embrace return of tunglang witnessed by Anil? Anil can be the facilator for ceasefire?

Hao Soo Nien

Shriek and tunglang should forgive each other on Chinese New Year. No need to wait til Hari Raya to maaf zahir batin! Do it now for the sake of anilnetto.com.

Shriek

See, so peaceful. Otherwise the same old harping and like the same old broken record play over and over again

Samir

Who is tunglang?
Why so much talk about him?
Is he a controversial person?
If he is in hiding, better for him to come out now to clarify the situation.

SL Ang

If tunglang does not return, he could be forgotten soon. A loss to Anilnetto.com.

Anil should have his email address to contact him personally, assuming there is no conflict whatsoever between them.

Bayi Yoda

Anil had Tunglang email contact just drop him a message to ascertain he is still alive and kicking. God bless.

Happy CNY to all! May Penang be more prosperous than before… LGE first day open house but CM second day?!

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 25 — Penangites and those working in the state who drive private cars, will enjoy an additional 18 per cent reduction to the Penang bridge toll, beginning February 1.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said this would make the new rate RM4.59, compared Dee the current RM5.60 paid by the same group of people.

Shriek

How to be prosperous? $£¢€¥¥rain from the sky and flood the low lying areas? No new roads, reclaimed islands and new apartments? See without gpd like your kelantan, how to be prosperous? No wonder you did not migrate to kelantan

Bayi Yoda

Readers’ gift to Anilnetto.com is the wish for the blog to heng ong huat (prosperity expanded!).

“Even if you are not an ethnic Chinese, I hope you will join in the festivities with your friends.”

Greetings Anil, safe to assume you attended one of the two CNY Open Houses hosted by both ex- and present CM at SPICE?

Halibut

You missed out free Starbucks coffee at CM open house besides those usual free food though halal as usual.

Anil should have made an effort to attend either function, for his fans to meet him besides taking selfie for memories!

Be warned!

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Royal Malaysian Police have already issued a warning that the offence of spreading fake news and rumours (on social media) on the Wuhan Coronavirus could lead to potential RM100,000 fines.

WSK

Don’t believe in FB messages mostly fake news!

But Gobind has failed because Nobody now refer to RTM for news!

Maxis One

Zed Zaidi’s controversial social media posting on coronavirus has landed him in hot soup.

The president of the Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) spent almost three hours being quizzed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in Cyberjaya today.

Samir

Zed Zaidi is a troubled person after the fiasco in Finas? Perhaps frustrated after failure in Senimsn? Why must he post sensitive and controversial messages?…

Penang Hindu Endowment Board Commissioner Satees Muniandy has urged the authorities to act against those spreading fake news alleging that the annual Thaipusam religious event in Penang will be cancelled due to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The 3-islands (or whatever number) reclamation project has got all the approvals — before anyone knows what exactly it is for. If it is private, why is the gomen organising a design competition?

SL Ang

Just follow the practices in Forest City that has set precedent way. Nothing to be afraid as the country cannot have different laws for Johor and Penang, right?

Little Perlis has become a leader in many ways; ref. this article from Asia Sentinel:

SL Ang

Asri is the default leader in Perlis given his spirits influence? Malays are easily influenced by his sayings since religion is embedded in their DNA.
