This Malaysia Day, let’s rise to harness our greatest asset – unity in diversity

On this Malaysia Day, Aliran celebrates the bonding together of the peoples of Malaya, Sarawak and Sabah in the Federation for 61 years.

Our nation’s greatest strengths are its diverse peoples and multicultural heritage – which contribute to our vibrant society. The existing inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony we enjoy is a precious gift that has been handed down to us.

But now this legacy of inclusivity and diversity – our common identity – is being challenged by those intent on tearing society apart. These quarters manipulate and weaponise race and religion for political gain. Full statement on Aliran website

We have total silence from the political elites to this horrendous crimes by GISB against children and young adults. This is not about race but the surreptitious revival of the Al-Aqram brand of deviant Islam.

I hope the PDRM will discharge its duties responsibly and professionally.

Siti Kasim has slammed Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) chief activist Datuk Nadzim Johan a.k.a. Toqqi and convert Muslim preacher Ridhuan Tee for belittling efforts by the Malaysian authorities to clamp down on the wrongdoings by business subsidiaries linked to the Global Ikhwan Group.

Ageing without a safety net in Malaysia Assignment (BBC) Industrialisation, modern cityscapes and strong economic growth promote an image of a youthful, vigorous Malaysia. But the country is now ageing rapidly, and this sudden transformation seems to have caught many – including the government – by surprise: Despite their country’s development, millions have little or no retirement income and face destitution or dependence in their golden years. What little provision is available was compromised during the Covid pandemic when the government allowed workers to withdraw retirement funds just to survive lockdown. Those who did so can now have almost nothing… Read more »

Come Sept 28, it would be four months since Ong Ing Keong, a hearing-impaired e-hailing driver, was smacked in the face while seated in his car waiting for passengers outside a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
However, the perpetrator, who is a police personnel, has not been charged despite the existence of a dashcam recording of the assault.

” Status quo on halal certification, process remains voluntary, says Zahid ”

But why was this matter not discussed first within the management (cabinet) of the current government and resolved internally, instead of releasing the statement and proposed actions to the public beforehand ?

Why the need for such ‘drama’?

There is no need to keep flipping this subject like making pizza dough (cakap macam ini, cakap macam itu, bermacam-macam lah. Cukup lah). This subject is associated with Muslims and their way of life and religion. We are a democratic country. Do any of our lawmakers understand what that means?

Hello, all you DAP supporters. Ask your political party, which you support, what they stand for now.

Don’t say multiracial; they never were. Instead, ask them about their current political orientation.

Do they still embrace democracy and our federal constitution, or are they now into supporting a theocratic state?

The same question applies to all other NM political parties. Specify your current preferences so that the Rakyat will know where our nation is heading. Just don’t remain silent and pretend that everything is fine and dandy.

You are the Prime Minister of a democratic government in a democratic country. Ours is not a religious government. Say it—are we still a democratic government? Do we still follow our federal constitution, the highest law of our nation? Do we, the Rakyat, vote every five years to maintain or change the presiding government? Why keep saying this and that and confuse us, the Rakyat?

Since we are still, and have been, a democratic nation, under democracy, our government comprises of various ministries. One of them is the Health Ministry. Why do we have this ministry? What is its function?

Have already expressed quite a bit in this blog. This blogsite itself has suggested many ideas and recommended actions that need to be taken.

Do you understand the language in which it is written or not?

The questions are primarily intended to stimulate thought, encourage reflection, and provoke deeper thinking. Is it too much for you to grasp. You keep repeating the same thing over and over again.

Doesn’t the responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of eateries fall under the Ministry of Health? Doesn’t the ministry oversee public health regulations, which include hygiene standards for food establishments?

Are there not various departments and divisions that carry out enforcement responsibilities related to public health, including the Food Safety and Quality Division? Doesn’t the local authority also play a role in enforcing cleanliness and hygiene standards at eateries?

” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says that halal now signifies food safety, cleanliness, and the use of sophisticated methods to avoid harmful products. ”

So, why not expand whatever guidelines are required for cleanliness under the Health Ministry?
