In the midst of this craziness, Dr Rafick provides a reassuring voice of sanity here.

Mustafa K Anuar has released a press statement on behalf of Aliran here while Haris Ibrahim has his take here.

And Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad (Pas) explains soberly the background to the temple relocation here and here.

The final word here goes to Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin (Umno).

I don’t think it right to call for illegal assembly and sedition to be thrown at the goons. We want those bad laws to be done away with, not enforced, even if impartially. In so far as they threatened bloodshed, there must be a law against that. But far, far better for other Muslims and, in particular, the teachers and leaders, to come out against this behaviour and the argument that because some location is 80% Muslim, then there can’t be temples or churches. If the same argument were to be applied impartially to say, Tg Bunga in Penang, then… Read more »

What a paradox and contradiction:the headlines on the front page of today’s(31 Aug)NST:”Tear down the walls of disunity-Najib’s first National Day message. But his sidekicks in the name of Datuk Noh Omar, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and the Mr know-it-all of BN,Datuk Kayveas do not complement his statement in condemning the cow head incident. They however chose to put the blame for the demonstration on the PR govt of Selangor. And the NST plays the role of His Master’s Voice well. 1Malaysia indeed

The lack of political will to curb extremism is degrading the country. Fortunately, the majority of the moslems in the country have spoken against this kind of extremism. Exploiting race and religion for political expediency is not going to make the country progress. Without support from the outside world our economy will suffer. These extremists, apparently, do not understand this and they are giving a bad name to the country. The police have to act without fear or favour and ensure that extremism of this nature is never allowed to rear its ugly head.

Tommy

Now the police said they cannot simply arrest and charged anyone (????). Just becoz they (may be linked to) UMNO and Muslim?
Why those demonstrators in the name of democracy can be arrested and charged at will? Why two sets of rule and law?? Can the CPO please clarify?? You have to coz you are my employee!!! I demand your answer or I want you sacked from the force.

Ravi

Its really sad to see Malaysia degrading to extremism and no tolerance. I am a Malaysian who lives overseas in a Westen country. In this Western country the Muslim population is 1% and Non-Muslim is 99%. But they are free to build thier Mosque anywhere they like. In fact there are quite a few mosques. Should we destroy these mosques because 99% of the population is non-muslim? Everyone has a right to worship, it is a GOD given right, GOD has given man freedom to choose. These kind of acts do not promote Islam but rather give them negative pubilicity.… Read more »

Showing the cow head incident on RTM1 news with one of the speaker threatening bloodshed is the most sutpid move by the BN govt. Indirectly they are giving airtime to “terrorist”!!!

Tommy

What? Now he is saying somebody planted the head there? Is he stupid or what? Reporters are there taking pictures and he comes up with this excuse? Morons or senile?
He forgot that a picture paints a thousand words..

A tiny group of extremist can ruin a country easily as what had happened in Rwanda.

Inaction to check this sort of extremism by police will encourage more provocations to incite racial and religious conflicts.

Hindus gives a special respect to cows as historically this animal was the source of almost everything to the poor peasants and the rich historically. Lands were ploughed and milk was obtained. The milk was fed to babies. The perception that ‘orang Hindu sembah lembu’ is not right. The perception that ‘lembu tu tuhan bagi orang Hindu’ is also wrong. The hindus ‘rever’ this animal because of its ‘jasa’ to human beings – historically, when there were no tractors to plough lands and when mothers could not milk their babies, cow’s milk was available. Even many Indian muslims in India… Read more »

Somehow my friends and I feel this episode has UMNO written all over. How come the FRU/POLICE did not rough them up and throw them into the Black Marias like they did to the peaceful candlelight vigil crowd. We were NOT allowed to carry banners ( I remember during a GMI protest, the police took away the small cotton white banner, loudspeakers and microphone was also not allowed. How did these 50 MORONS get get to do all these and get a permit to assemble and be SEDITIOUS, BRAYING for BLOOD and are still treated with kid gloves. UNJUST, UNFAIR… Read more »

“Sebenarnya, kuil Seksyen 19 telah berada di situ sejak zaman sebelum wujudnya Shah Alam lagi.”
That’s what YB Khalid Samad said. So, doesn’t the temple have every right to be erected anywhere in Shah Alam?

I just pray that all these ‘mudslinging” stops!!! Enuff! We just have to bear with each other and stay united. Dont let any person break the unity chain. The world will be a better place if all learn tolerance and respect! I am praying that no one goes and does something extremely stupid in retaliation. It could and would just get messy and down the hill everything goes. I read an article wrote in MalaysiaKini by a lady “Yati” and wish to comment that, If by ignorance only we cant live. IF you want to know a religion or its… Read more »

If the police do not charge them then i can see our beloved country will just disappear in time to come.Unless of course a new goverment must take over.

The Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Khalid issued a statement expressing regret. Had he issued an outright apology to all Malaysians he would be seen as a Statesman. He lost a golden opportunity to show statesmanship.

btw Dr Hassan Ali, the Exco incharge of Islam is very quiet.

Sad to think we are into 52years of “Meredka”,yet we are uncivilized! We boast of the tallest, largest, biggest etc.infrastructures but have gone to stoneage and barbaric behavior. What amazes one is,the so called ‘protectors'[Government] fails to take any action. Is it 1Malaysia?

arumugam

i deeply upset with the incident, hopefully the indian be calm, dont act according to feeling, the only way malaysian can unite is by throwing away this BN gaverment.

crash

I am a Malay, Muslim and i am very disgusted at such act. I cant express enough how terrible these narrow-minded people are. Towards our 31st August, this is one thing that demonstrate how ignorant some people can be. I hope this does not mirror other malays and muslims that are more open-minded and more accepting to others. We should realize that we are MALAYSIANS in MALAYSIA and stop this ridiculous act!!

awangkassim

What better way to stir the Malay Muslims during ramadhan? Islam prohibits the anger in us during ramadhan and they called themselves Muslim? They are not, they are acting as Malays.

PR, be prepared for the onslaught of UMNO attempting to take over Selangor….

UMNO(-linked groups) playing the religion and racial tactics again….?

Definitely such despicable act is UNISLAMIC.
ISLAM preaches respect, love, compassion and tolerance.
Those demostrators showed none of these attributes.
I am happy because most of the Muslims do not follow them.
To All Malaysian Muslims, Selamat berpuasa and don’t let such silly act provoke you!
To all hindus, do not react against such Babaric act and remember they do not represent the Muslims in our beloved country.
The Muslims that we usually know are friendly, sincere, tolerant and helpful.
