Forced removal of cross from church ‘unconstitutional’: Selangor MB

This is what Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali had to say yesterday in response to a mob forcing a church in a shoplot in Taman Medan to remove the cross from its building:

“On the subject of justice and fairness, I would like to pause a moment and comment on the issue of the recent incident involving a mob forcing a church to take down its cross.

“I immediately condemned the act as unconstitutional and a violation of the fundamental rights of Christians to practice their religion unmolested. Civil society organisations including those with predominantly Muslim membership also joined in swiftly to denounce the incident.

“I just want to say this again: The Pakatan-led government of the state of Selangor subscribes firmly to the principle of justice and moderation in all matters, what more in respect of communal, religious and ethnic relations.”

The 50 protesters should go to Penang for lawatan sambil belajar at Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling (Pitt Street) to see how the various houses of worship can co-exist in the proximity of 500m. Then they could proceed to Jalan Tokong Ular for the similar experience. This way is the most meaningful cuti cuti Malaysia.

To me, given the circumstances of the case, it is really sad that the Selangor Menteri Besar has announced that he would not be issuing the letter as requested by the pastor of the church. To me, this is an abdication of his responsibility. Benar cakap, Azmin Ali, berani bikin. Settle the matter properly.

Umnoputraputri should not wear England football jerseys or Barcelona football jerseys as the logos bear cross that they claim can affect their faith (aqidah)?

One EXCO said this while another said differently. Premises for businesses or any purpose are usually under the purview of the State govt. The EXCO said is another thing as she is not in charge of planning while the Council public relation person said on behalf of MPPP.

Anyway lets see whether is just cakap banyak or just a sandiwara one

That this has arisen is a damning indictment on the Umno-led Barisan Nasional. It certainly shows to all and sundry that their nation-building policies are just not working. Time for a review and an overhaul of such policies for the good of all.
