I don’t know about you… but yesterday I received a couple of text messages from unknown sources urging me to “be a true Malaysian and join Yayasan 1Malaysia!”
My knee-jerk reaction was, you mean I can’t be “a true Malaysian” without joining Yayasan 1Malaysia?
The question on my mind was, who exactly is behind this Foundation?
So this Bernama report was most illuminating, as it lists down the eight-person board of trustees.
- Chandra Muzaffar (chairperson);
- Dr Jemilah Mahmood (Mercy Malaysia president);
- Mahani Zainal Abidin (ISIS director-general);
- Lee Lam Thye (NIOSH chairperson)
- Idris Jala (Malaysia Airlines CEO)
- Tony Fernandes (Air Asia CEO)
- Ismail Ibrahim (holder of the Sheikh Abdullah Fahim Chair at the Islam Hadhari Institute, UKM)
- K J Ratnam (an emeritus professor)
You can see their pictures here. And the Foundation’s objectives here.
Najib, who is the patron, has expressed happiness at the formation of the Foundation. According to Najib on his blog:
Some months ago I met with two highly-respected members of our Malaysian society, Dr. Chandra Muzaffar and Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye for a purpose: to discuss the establishment of an independent organisation that would epitomise the spirit of 1Malaysia.
Yesterday, I was happy to hear that Yayasan 1Malaysia and its Board of Trustees were officially presented to the media. I was invited to become the patron of the Yayasan, an honour I am proud to accept.

WE ALL LOVE THIS COUNTRY, BORN HERE AND WILL DIE HERE.
SO BE IT…THE TRUTH AND JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL IN A MATTER OF TIME.
THE END IS NEAR (FOR) UMNO & BN AND ITS CRONIES…
LET THEM RULE NOW WE SHALL SEE LATER WHERE THEY ARE GOING TO HIDE?
Question: 😐 Is that Yayasan or Yahya’s son? Friend Tom wants to know if it could perchance be a pesky typo as he thinks his friend, 🙂 Yahya Birt, has a son you see, although friend Tom thinks with some confused suspicion that the Birtian son may perchance be called something else other than that verily silly 🙁 telephone calling-card like name of 1Malaysia. WE SAY YEAH! & NO TO ISA! 😛 AND HARIS FOR AG & RPK FOR IGP! GO FOR DSAI FOR PM & LKS FOR DPM & KIND WAN AZIZAH FOR HOME MINISTER. 2009 Resolution: Seek out… Read more »
A few of these patrons were connected with politics before and their credibility is at stake. Chandra was a senior member of PKR and after leaving PKR attacked the organisation and its leader viciously.Hence his credibility is at stake. Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye was with DAP and left and was appointed to the board of quasi govt organisations. Tony Fernandez was publicly aligned to a certain political party during the last GE. How then can they think in terms of a Malaysia for all ? The question is then how are they lead an organistation with tinge of politics… Read more »
Its pathetic what seemingly stalwarts of society will do …
This is another wayang kulit from the founder of 1Malaysia. I am a better malaysian by not joining this group. First let us see 1Perak.
With that bunch of … especially the Patron, I am specially proud not to be remotely associated with 1Malaysia!
It therefore does not, and cannot, in any way make me or any other ordinary Malaysian a lesser Malaysian or Anak Malaysia.
Cheng Poh Heng
Yayasan 1 What? join jibby’s gang? no thanks.
If i cannot trust any of them , how can i join?
Will joining 1Malaysia Foundation marks the end of the ISA and NEP?
As they cannot answer , therefore i cannot join.
NO, thanks.
Oh, and the same response to that other (nonsensical) set-up too – that association/institution where one apparently goes to get some “integrity”.
“Imagine Power To The People” John Lennon.
I have a few questions. can someone explain it to me.
1. Is 1 Malaysia free of politic?
2. Do members have the right to choose the Patron
and Board of trustees at the next AGM?
If we get a comfotable answers to the above questions, let us all join the the organisation.
All of you are nuts!!!! In other words if i dont join them i am not a true MALAYSIAN. S***
Are Malaysians treated equally? How does a government practice 1 Malaysia when their main governing method is to divide and rule?
what make so different whether i join them or not.
another way of wasting funds?
I wonder if the trustees can say no to being nominated. I imagine saying no will be unhealthy for them.
1Malaysia is the best rethoric of the year, just like the Islam Hadhari. Malaysia is Malaysia lah, just like Islam is Islam lah. Just be a Malaysian, and just be a Muslim, as what it should be. Yayasan sana, yayasan sini, perabis duit sana, perabis duit sini,…. Putar alam punya pemimpin.
“be a true Malaysian and join Yayasan 1Malaysia!”
i think i’ve been practising malaysian-ess long before this 1malaysia popped up.
no thanks
1Malaysia with two system.No! thanks until it become 1Malaysian and one system.
Another act. They could have won an academy for their acting.
Another sindiwara, I dont see any credible teams and all are BN Laptop especially Chandra Mustaffa…
Joining a club makes me more Malaysian? Anyone who can put 2 and 2 together can foretell what it is.
No thanks.
