Spare a thought for Adam Adli and Mandeep Singh who were arrested this evening after a protest at Sogo. See this Bersih 2.0 statement on the Aliran website.
A Kuala Lumpur-based political analyst sent in his impressions of the event:
By all accounts, it was an eventful night and the political stars from Pakatan Rakyat graced the occasion to lend support to Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar.
PKR Lembah Pantai organised this dinner to raise funds for their MP, the daughter of jailed Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim. The dinner on 10 March 2014 was held at the Thean Hou Temple Hall in Kuala Lumpur and attended by an estimated crowd of around 2000 who paid RM100 per seat.
Definitely money’s worth as the fiery speakers – Selangor MB Mohd Azmin Ali, Pas deputy president Mat Sabu, PJ Utara MP Tony Pua, Himpunan Hijau’s Wong Tat, former Bersih co-chair Ambiga Sreenevasan, and the host herself, ‘Puteri Reformasi’ Nurul Izzah – mesmerised the guests with their oratory for nearly four hours.
Current issues such as the 1MDB debacle, Kidex, the Selangor water agreement, inflation and the depreciation of the ringgit were among the issues raised by the speakers.
The crowd comprised predominantly city dwellers, most of whom were aware of the issues highlighted by the speakers but lacked the in-depth knowledge of the speakers.

It is really heartening to see the overwhelming supports Nurul received over the Malaysian cyber space since her arrest yesterday. She is an intelligent, smart, brave, determined and charming woman, and is beautiful! There is a lot of similarly capable and intelligent personality in the PR ranks, especially the younger generation such as Tony Pua, Ong Kian Ming, Rafizi, Hannah Yeoh, Liew Chin Tong, Zairil Johari, Mujahid Rawa and many more. Among all these leaders I would say Nurul has a really stand-out attribute: she is well loved by Malaysians of all ethnicity and is clearly evidenced by the supports… Read more »
Nurul’s genetic makeup is half Malay, half Chinese.
A similarity compared to Hang Tuah, a Chinese warrior with a Malay name.
And most Chinese-Malay Milo-susu offspring are beautiful.
If not for some religious rules, many Chinese men would love to marry a Malay lady!
Why? Typical Malay ladies (not the over-urbanised) are more romantic, less haughty, less materialistic when courting (Vespa motorbike is AOK), and can ‘manja-manja’ their husband/partner (with no T&C attached). And most are great cooks of Malay dishes and housekeepers.
Don’t believe me? Watch P.Ramlee’s movies. Or go to Gunung Ledang kampung.
Anil, don’t you agree?
Hmm, some stereotyping here!
She is now in Jinjang lockup.
Ambiga is not so bersih after all.
Nurul has been arrested by PDRM following the police report from Zulkifili Noordin.
Is this the first time that a female malay politician have to spend a night in jail following police arrest?
Opposition also elitist..Goes to show how PRIMAL politics is still today more so in Malaysia. Nurul is the Darling of Pakatan – beyond her father, she is a jewel and treasure even though she does not shine as bright as her father..Her jewel status is why she can get all PR leaders to come out. NO ONE ELSE in Pakatan, even in PAS could get Nik Aziz out to stump during the last GE. It would be highly interesting if she goes to Hadi Awang to patch things up for Pakatan. She likely be the only person across the divide… Read more »
