Two moments stood out in last night’s debate between Anwar Ibrahim and Najib Razak.
Najib walked into a ‘sucker punch’ when he compared the economy to an expanding cake, which could then be divided among the people.
Anwar’s retort – that one shouldn’t eat the cake by himself – was one of the standout moments of the debate.

Rakyat now do not care of how big the cake and who to get what portion, but already cannot tahan high cost of living due to inflation! So politicians need to get real and understand the plight of rakyat!
Now no need AP to import food. Maybe Keluarga Malaysia is preparing for food insecurity? Why not encourage young people to involve in agriculture sectors to grow more food?
Malaysia imports 70% of its food consumption.
Vegetables, meat and fishes are not sufficiently produced locally.
For the past 40-50 years till now the agriculture appears to focus on palm oil plantation, and the irony today is that the cooking oils are not cheap to locals despite Msia is a major producer of palm oil.
Every food item costs more. The people to show frustrations now if GE15 is held this year, so we shall see the outcome.
Must now think twice before destroying vegetables at Cameron Highlands?

Waiting for some YBs to initiate urban farming program, giving out seeds and hydrophonic planting kits to households. Make people aware of sustainability that begin at home.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=57HBTpEn7KQ&feature=youtu.be
Instead of giving out direct cash, make rakyat feel the urgency to plant their own vegetables.
Disagree. Citizens are concerned about government income which affects taxation and benefits. They also worry about useless big projects, useless or racist services, avoidable waste and repairs, crime, mindless destruction and pollution, and sleepwalking into the climate cataclysm.
Immediate concern of Rakyat is rising cost of living, particularly the high cost of chicken.
PM blames poultry companies.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nst.com.my/amp/news/nation/2022/05/798792/pm-lambasts-poultry-companies-behind-chicken-shortage-and-soaring-prices
PM should not interfere with market forces of demand and supply. Instead his key focus is to strengthen the value of Ringgit. With strong Ringgit, poultry farmers can buy the imported chicken feed without adding to cost.
PM wanted to cut middlemen to cut food cost.
Maybe a new Mara Ayam Mall (MAM) can be at up? Chicken farmers deliver chicken directly to MAM for halal slaughtering and direct sale to consumers?
What is the ministry doing? Now some coffee shops have even spiked up the prices for drinks. Can you imagine a kopi o ice has increased from RM2+ to now RM3+ in some coffee shops? These people are taking advantage of the situation.
Stop patronizing those restaurants that overcharge. Consumers have power. But many are too lazy to look for alternative like cooking at home to cut cost
True. No need to complain. If you don’t buy then the demand will drop. Let the market decide price via equilibrium mechanism.
Many people are hooked on Penang Nasi Kandar, so strong demand resulting in mamak raising price indiscriminately. Yet nobody ever complain, why?
Auditor general reports have repeatedly shown that our government procured items at high and unreasonable price, several times market price. Yet nobody ever complain. But some who cannot afford GSC potato chips made a big fuss lately.
Have you ever heard from the government how they are going to strengthen the Ringgit? They cannot because our economic fundamentals are not as good as they portray to us on mainstream media. 1 Singapore Dollar is now 3.2 Ringgit and is still rising. Already southern Johor areas are losing workers to Singapore.
glissantia must be in T20, so rising cost of living is surely not his concern. If so concerned about government income, then he should use RON97 petrol and avoid subsidized RON95, all avoid driving all together to minimise mindless pollution.
He could elaborate on ‘racist services’ in the context of Keluarga Malaysia.
When you have to pay 10-20% each time you pay for your meal and grocery, you have no time to think about big projects or big cakes. Frustration mounts when interest rate also goes up meaning more today for debt. People fed up when chicken price continues to go up.
The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has threatened to march and gather in Putrajaya if the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry fails to respond to a memorandum it submitted on April 1.
The memorandum outlined the need for the government to monitor the rise in prices of goods and services and also urged the ministry to carry out more frequent monitoring to tackle this issue.
Price hike linked to wage hike (RM1500 min wage)?
Pay more for wages end up employers raise price of products and services. So no REAL wage increase but more inflation. I hope employers will hire fewer people and make workers more productive to justify higher pay. Do not follow civil service – low productivity and plenty of redundancy due to overlapping responsibilities and countless departments.
No need to work also can get RM30K cake per month!

1MDB adviser did nothing for 5 years but received RM30,000 monthly
Najib wanted Sapura be transferred to Petronas for bail out just like he transferred SRC to 1MDB. We know what happened next. Deja Vu!
Csh is King now twisted to new meaning to suit Rakyat’s need for more handouts.
In politics, no one will give you power. If you want power, you need to grab it, not wait for it to be given.
No wonder the Pakatan-Harapan-friendly NGOs are failures, almost all of them. They do not understand politics. They think politics is like charity work where you wait for a Good Samaritan to come and offer you power.

The next time they will say, too many drivers and less customers or decrease in demand, less traffic volume, shorter travel time and therefore need to increase the fares. What then?

People must reduce consumption of meat. Save money and good for environment too! Eat more bean products like tempeh instead for protein.
If you think the great democracies advising us through their puppet international agenies are any better in subsidies and genuine competition, you would be mistaken. E.g.,
:- USA provided more welfare aid or subsidies to the middle class than to the poor -Thomas Piketty et al. 2015
:- Over 2011-2018, European Commission urged member governments at least 63 times to reduce expenditure on medical treatment, in favour of privatisation -thegrayzone.com 2020.

Gomen should invest in renewable energy. After capital cost, everyting is FREE. FREE SUN, FREE WIND and FREE TIDES. Capital cost recovers after 5 years. But MCA_BN plays monopoly and APs to cronys.
More hot air and “wayang”. Don’t get distracted. There is tremendous propaganda effort to divert and divide us using petty and partisan issues. Always expect your political and civil servants to serve your interests such as (a) essentials, e.g., food, health and local security (b) long-term matters such climate change (e.g. floods), equality and children’s prospects.
Najib is targeting the rural Malays who are ignorant of finance and corruption so long as they could get goodies like before so the ideal of bigger cake is very appealing to them although they only get dedak while the elite Ummoputera get better and bigger share!
So that is why Anwar hit a home run by saying a lot depends on who is cutting the cake and how it is cut.

Forensic audit for missing cakes?
Anil as a Charted Accountant can help to explain to us how does forensic audit work from accounting or legal practice.
A regular annual audit does not actually look out for fraud. I remember my audit lecturer drumming into us that the auditor is supposed to be a watchdog not a bloodhound. The main purpose of the audit is to establish that the financial statements give a true and fair view of the financial performance of the firm and have been prepared in line with recognised accounting standards. A forensic audit, on the other hand, is undertaken when you suspect something has gone wrong or if you feel there is fraud. Then the audit work is to look thoroughly into the… Read more »
Thanks Anil for explanation to many accouting novice like us.
For public accounts like condominium management, regular yearly financial report can be manipulated unless like you said a forensic audit being carried out.
Yes, fraud, especially not major fraud, could go undetected during an annual audit.
Don’t have to look very far. Look what happened with 1MDB despite its annual audits.
