Najib lands up with ‘cake’ in the face

65

Two moments stood out in last night’s debate between Anwar Ibrahim and Najib Razak.

Najib walked into a ‘sucker punch’ when he compared the economy to an expanding cake, which could then be divided among the people.

Anwar’s retort – that one shouldn’t eat the cake by himself – was one of the standout moments of the debate.

Rakyat now do not care of how big the cake and who to get what portion, but already cannot tahan high cost of living due to inflation! So politicians need to get real and understand the plight of rakyat!

Now no need AP to import food. Maybe Keluarga Malaysia is preparing for food insecurity? Why not encourage young people to involve in agriculture sectors to grow more food?

Malaysia imports 70% of its food consumption.

Vegetables, meat and fishes are not sufficiently produced locally.

For the past 40-50 years till now the agriculture appears to focus on palm oil plantation, and the irony today is that the cooking oils are not cheap to locals despite Msia is a major producer of palm oil.

Every food item costs more. The people to show frustrations now if GE15 is held this year, so we shall see the outcome.

Waiting for some YBs to initiate urban farming program, giving out seeds and hydrophonic planting kits to households. Make people aware of sustainability that begin at home.

Instead of giving out direct cash, make rakyat feel the urgency to plant their own vegetables.

Disagree. Citizens are concerned about government income which affects taxation and benefits. They also worry about useless big projects, useless or racist services, avoidable waste and repairs, crime, mindless destruction and pollution, and sleepwalking into the climate cataclysm.

Immediate concern of Rakyat is rising cost of living, particularly the high cost of chicken.

PM blames poultry companies.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nst.com.my/amp/news/nation/2022/05/798792/pm-lambasts-poultry-companies-behind-chicken-shortage-and-soaring-prices

PM should not interfere with market forces of demand and supply. Instead his key focus is to strengthen the value of Ringgit. With strong Ringgit, poultry farmers can buy the imported chicken feed without adding to cost.

PM wanted to cut middlemen to cut food cost.

Maybe a new Mara Ayam Mall (MAM) can be at up? Chicken farmers deliver chicken directly to MAM for halal slaughtering and direct sale to consumers?

True. No need to complain. If you don’t buy then the demand will drop. Let the market decide price via equilibrium mechanism.

Many people are hooked on Penang Nasi Kandar, so strong demand resulting in mamak raising price indiscriminately. Yet nobody ever complain, why?

Have you ever heard from the government how they are going to strengthen the Ringgit? They cannot because our economic fundamentals are not as good as they portray to us on mainstream media. 1 Singapore Dollar is now 3.2 Ringgit and is still rising. Already southern Johor areas are losing workers to Singapore.

When you have to pay 10-20% each time you pay for your meal and grocery, you have no time to think about big projects or big cakes. Frustration mounts when interest rate also goes up meaning more today for debt. People fed up when chicken price continues to go up.

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has threatened to march and gather in Putrajaya if the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry fails to respond to a memorandum it submitted on April 1.

The memorandum outlined the need for the government to monitor the rise in prices of goods and services and also urged the ministry to carry out more frequent monitoring to tackle this issue.

Pay more for wages end up employers raise price of products and services. So no REAL wage increase but more inflation. I hope employers will hire fewer people and make workers more productive to justify higher pay. Do not follow civil service – low productivity and plenty of redundancy due to overlapping responsibilities and countless departments.

In politics, no one will give you power. If you want power, you need to grab it, not wait for it to be given.

No wonder the Pakatan-Harapan-friendly NGOs are failures, almost all of them. They do not understand politics. They think politics is like charity work where you wait for a Good Samaritan to come and offer you power.

The next time they will say, too many drivers and less customers or decrease in demand, less traffic volume, shorter travel time and therefore need to increase the fares. What then?
