People’s Agenda: Reclaim our nation!

People first, democracy now!

Well, this is what my colleagues and I and our civil society partners have been busy with over the last few days.

The People’s Agenda was unveiled yesterday, with six civil society co-sponsors.

The theme of the agenda is “Reclaim our Nation!” with the slogan “People first, democracy now!”

The five key points in the People’s Agenda:

  1. Uphold the dignity and quality of life of the people
  2. Promote equitable, sustainable development and address the climate crisis
  3. Celebrate diversity and inclusivity
  4. Save democracy and uphold the rule of law
  5. Fight corruption and cronyism

Check out the full People’s Agenda, which has been endorsed by over 50 civil society organisations. It’s just over 500 words, so it’s an easy read.

If you belong to an NGO and your NGO would like to endorse the People’s Agenda, please fill up this form to endorse.

Share with us what you think about this agenda. Would it be possible to get the politicians to address these issues in their campaigning?

Please help to support this blog if you can.

But, were not PKR and Amanah talking about cooperating with other parties when the DAP leader made his announcements as per item 1? What made DAP to change their mind or U-turn, now? After 5 days, dark history not dark anymore? It is a new dawn, the sun is shinning bright ?

The above politicians seem to be confused and have not even decided what they want to do with own party yet.

So, Blogmaster, with this kinda situation, how are you going to plan, which politicians or political parties to pick to address your issues in their campaign?

End.

Political parties should be open to discussions regarding Malaysia’s future, says Bersatu sec-gen / Friday, 29 Apr 2022 11:32 PM MYT

” MELAKA, April 29 — All political parties need to be open to sitting down and discussing the future of the people, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said.”

Well said, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin. Your policies and the statements you put forward, always shows concern for the well-being of our Nation and the Rakyat.

“Affordable” and “adequate” should apply equally to food, healthcare, housing and education.

Foreign “workers” (employees) also deserve protection. The principal reason there are so many of them is that there is criminal negligience of how they – and in many cases the employers – are exploited.

I hope this initiative helps the country instead of fragmenting democratic forces further. Even in academia, arts, environmentalism, etc., there is an unfortunate tendency for leaders to set up new organisations to promote themselves.

Many NGOs are sponsored by political parties.
Civil groupings can be uncivilised with own agenda.
Last 5-10 years Msia economy not on right track and now losed out to neighbours BUT our civil groups are like NATO … no action talk only.
NGOs can be worst than corrupted political parties. They claim to have ideas BUT cannot influence government policies to make life better for all Msians.

Reform is very much needed.

And the majority of rakyat still expecting subsidies here and there like before not knowing the financial perils ahead.
Look at Sri Lanka now.

luca

Removal of subsidies (perceived or not) is suicidal – PH can attest to this in its 22 month lifespan as a government.

Over reliant on cheap labour is a disease even a doctor apanama can diagnose but fail to cure over decades. Why no drive for more techno automation to increase productivity eg machines to harvest palm o oil or robots to cook and serve eg roti canai? M50 with nothing much to save up for future needs or simply still not enough for present needs even wants (fine dining instead of street food, overseas travel instead of cuti cuti Bolehland). Why no self examine to upgrade mentality to work harder if not smarter? Failed Education policies with graduates qualification not in… Read more »

While I agree on efficiency, many jobs require direct labour. How come Malaysians are willing to take up such jobs in some other countries? Apart from personbal greed, the business person/contrator squeezes the employee because he is in turn squeezed by cronies/enforcers/regulators/decision makers/financeers/IMF. We should acknowledge monsterous neo-liberalism destroying humanity and the planet itself.

What do you think of China’s “Shared Prosperity” as advocated by President Xi? Jack Ma has to share his Ali Baba loot with B40!

Hadi Awang said PAS will not join the ‘big tent’ but will instead defend the “Muslim unity” agenda with the largest parties of Muslims – Bersatu and Umno.

In other words, PAS is against People’s Agenda #3: Celebrate diversity and inclusivity.

So People’s Agenda is putting against Penyatuan Ummah PAS-Bersatu-Umno?

Big mountain to climb. Mission Impossible?

Unfortunately, Agenda Rakyat got no mention in Malay mainstream press like Utusan.

I suggest Aliran explain how much of Agenda Rakyat is in line with the Keluarga Malaysia concept.

Can Federal and Syariah Laws in same tune? If in conflict then uphold which one?

Reclaim our nation? Who have robbed the nation? Civil groups must dare to speak out to reach out to every people in Msia.

How to measure quality of life ? Quality in terms of where you stay, what you eat, wear and drive or how loud is your voice? Society seems to judge us on that? No wonder very stressful to many.

luca

Some elevate their quality of life by frequenting Starbucks for coffee instead of kopitiam. Gaya mesti Ada.

Brocky

Now more fashionable to go to CU or Family Mart instead of your neighborhood grocery store. Premium pricing in the name of higher quality of life.

Fight Corruption and Cronyism is a tall order in Bolehland’s feudalistic patronage embraced system sustainable since apanama days. Now The Boss is not a disgrace as Cash Is King is the dignity of society?

glissantia

Agree. All the leaders are only waffling (producing hot air) on the subject of financing political parties.

Democracy is flawed. Rakyat has rights only on voting day. After that the Wakil Rakyat will screw them for 5 years.
