The most telling moment for the “unity government” came on Sunday night, when a crowd of a few thousand at a dinner banquet applauded DAP MP Lim Lip Eng’s announcement that Pakatan Harapan had lost the Sungai Bakap by-election.
Imagine that. If that is not writing on the wall for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, I don’t know what is.
Two years have flown and if Anwar does not buck up, he will lose the next general election. Look what just happened to Rishi Sunak and Emmanuel Macron in the UK and France.
Alarm bells at Sungai Bakap
Clearly, many among the ethnic minorities are no longer willing to give PH their undivided support. But because many of them feel they do not have a political alternative they are comfortable with, they stayed out of the Sungai Bakap by-election.
Some of the ethnic majority, the Malays, have no such qualms about voting for the opposition, so they switched their support from Umno or PH to Perikatan Nasional. Full article on Aliran website

PMX should not try to be too conservative to lure Malay votes from PN, and lose its non-Malays votes in the process. This by election has served a warning to PMX not to ignore it’s loyal supporters and take them for granted.
Bumiputera student enrolment in Chinese schools have risen by more than 50% over the last 10 years, says the Education Minister, Fadhlina Sidek. The enrolment figures had risen from 11.67% in 2014 to 18.52% in 2024.
The rising number of Bumiputera students enrolled in international schools is a sign that more Bumiputera parents are losing trust in the quality of national schools, says
educational sociologist Anuar Ahmad.
https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2024/07/13/more-bumiputera-parents-losing-trust-in-national-schools-says-don/
Basically the quality of national school is low. Chinese schools offer better education and discipline, better job opportunities later in life!
Never mind if the schools are funded by Tiger, as the students will not grow up to be drunkard!
Alcohol brand Tiger Beer has clarified that it did not give any money to Chinese schools in Malaysia, and that its support is limited to providing local artists for charity concerts to help raise funds from the public.
More selective hypocrisy and double-think in the world champion country for that.
Anthony Loke today said that Chinese school fundraisers, including those involving breweries, are mostly held outside school premises and attended by parents and supporters. He said that such events are usually held in restaurants or other external premises, following guidelines from the Education Ministry.
Listen to this Malay guy who studied in Chinese school in Malaysia:

Please do not bring Religion into our Educational Institution and contaminate the young and innocent mind of our Malaysian Children.
Our supreme and secular Federal Constitution as envisaged by our forefathers does not meant our beloved Nation to be a Theological State like Afghanistan or Iran.
Once done with primary school, the students can attend the 82 Chinese government secondary schools (also known as SMJK), 63 independent Chinese high schools or national secondary schools. After that, they can head to the three Chinese community-based tertiary education institutions, private universities or government universities if they meet the local requirements.

It is better to learn Mandarin now in school. It is an important language now and even more in the coming years.
I must agree too. Setuju!

Malaysia’s Malay singer Firdhaus Farmizi, (菲道尔) who sings Mandarin song performed on China TV show:
Writing Chinese is the big challenge. Maybe in future, ICT will help to read it.
If you start from young, no problem.
Children can learn easily at young age.
Not being rich, the bulk of parents have little choice beyond Chinese schools. The children face these despite one of the largest ministerial budgets: teacher absenteeism, discrimination/abuse, molest/assault, poor teaching, incorrect/political texts/exam questions, excess books, subjective evaluation (1 exam after 11 years), poor infrastructure (collapsing roofs, snakes, etc.), gangsterism, colonial ties, food poisoning, unpopular/impractical changes, admin. imposed on teachers..
Video of a Malaysian Malaysia lady that speaks fluent mandarin, having studied in Chinese school:
Is she afraid to give absolute figures rather than relative growth? She may have added to the rot with a course she introduced.
Malays can be shocked by absolute number, percentage may look harmless to them.
Ironic, contradictory for UiTM to not admit non-Bumiputera students, when 5,571 international students have been accepted to study at UiTM from 2019 to 2023.
UMNO youth believes that companies who sell alcohol and tobacco in the country should not contribute to schools, then ban these companies from doing business in Malaysia for good!
They have formed their companies here, they pay taxes to the government of the day, the employ a lot of Malays in their work force and if UMNO youth were to check with the youth from schools, universities and right up to the workplace on who consumes the most of tobacco related products, the results will be obvious!
How to make sure that the tax collected from gambling (Genting, Magnum and Toto) did not end up funding the poor Malay religious schools?
Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the previous BN government used to funnel funds collected from alcohol and gambling industries to fund vernacular schools and Chinese temples.
Using hypocrisy and double-think, they can issue such statements almost every day for political gain.

The system set in place seem to be applied to all living beings. It don’t seem to matter what their religious or non religious background are.
If the system applied are the same for all in this life, how is it going to be differently applied for all in the hereafter ?
I challenge the govt to ban tobacco and brewery industries in this country to stop the complains. Why ban their donations if they are legal contributors in the economy and the taxes they paid are used on each and every segment of the society? What’s the difference between a direct contribution to schools as compared to funding from the govt with the tax money collected from them?
Hypocrisy and confusion cannot be questioned. They are “sensitive” issues. End of discussion.

My heartfelt best wishes go out to Tan and Thinaah. Winning a medal is undoubtedly a significant achievement, but your resilience in overcoming the challenges of the ‘group of death’ is truly commendable. You have set a high standard for others to aspire to.

DAP National Chairman Lim Guan Eng challenged Kedah Chief Minister Sanusi to either provide proof that Chinese primary school students drink beer or stop spreading baseless claims.
“I challenge Kedah Chief Minister Sanusi to provide evidence of Chinese primary school students drinking beer or getting drunk at school. Otherwise, he should stop spreading baseless claims. Sanusi’s irresponsible remarks are highly unfair to the Chinese community,” he said.
You don’t see any politicians questioning or asking about the sin tax collected annually, how it is accounted and how much and to how many ministries, agencies, or to the states etc, it is allocated, for expenditure.
This sin tax is 100% from the nons, is it not? Do they highlight this sin tax in the annual budget as revenue collected? What is the government’s SOP on this sin tax collected?
Does PAS governed states collect sin tax? Would like to hear from PAS on this.
Malaysia is building malls like crazy – but shoppers aren’t coming
https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/economy/2024/7/15/malaysia-is-building-malls-like-crazy-but-shoppers-arent-coming
Dozens of new malls are under construction in the country even as existing complexes (40% are located in the greater Kuala Lumpur area) struggle to attract customers.
Malakat Mall (at Cyberjaya) initially launched to empower Muslim entrepreneurs and later dubbed the ‘ghost mall,’ is set to shut its doors on July 31 after four years of operation. It was an halal mall yet cannot survive.
In business, sometimes they make it, sometime they fail. That is how business is. Nothing much to do with who the people are.
In one area 3 big malls, 2 of which was with hotels attached, all 3 malls with one hotel failed. One more hotel barely surviving. 2 of the building are now terribly run down and looks ghostly at night.
Homeless people sometime occupy their frontage.
if hotel and malls fail, what do penang kias going to do? Do you have better suggestions? Or cluess and kbkb?
Why you talk as if all the Malls or all the Hotels fail ? Ten may go up, 1 or 2 might come down. That’s business. Its all their, the business people’s problem to deal with.
Why you kaypoh, kaypoh so much ask for better suggestions? You business man, owner of hotels or Malls?
rakyat 8, you are the one who started it. you mentioned and kaypoh first
In JB, [two hotels], both bumiputera owned and managed, closed down during COVID pandemic and still cannot be revived.
Same fate as MARA Digital.
It has proven one thing – do not operate business on racial line.
I prefer malls that allow non halal restaurants.
Why do you say do not operate on racial line? Business is business. The Malays are the majority, more than 50%.
So, why does it still fail ? These business people have to ask themselves, where did they go wrong?
rakyat, you are clueless, it is not the business but politics just like unis, colleges are not for everyone. Shops in the malls are not for everyone but everyone has to pay tax.
Pricing not competitive in these failed malls. The operators focus on short-term profits cannot retain customers.
Prefer non-halal restaurants to those franchised restaurants in shopping malls.
Penang Time Square also closed down.

After so many years, doubt if DAP will even bother now. In the current scheme of things, DAP has become domiciled. They will not want to rock the current boat.

dont kbkb, senior rakyat go and stand or sit for election. We support you. We will vote for you.

UMNO still cannot get Malay support, still need the support of PH. This is the reality but Umno Youth need to show its toughness of paper tiger.
Nasi lemak from vending machine is easily one of the most unsound ideas ever – I am being polite here. When it was announced, a blogger asked who got the machine contract, for how much, and whether there had been an open tender.
Indeed you are, glissantia, being polite. The vending idea reminds me of small minds thinking small and big minds thinking big. Have we made any progress economically?
The other thing about open tender or not, that seems to be business as usual around here.

The dean seem to have got it right. It is alright to visit to understand and learn what the other is doing.
It is important to recognize that there are two distinct approaches to worship within religious practices. One group venerates images and engages in rituals that have been observed for thousands of years, and they possess logical justifications for these traditions. In contrast, another group practices non-image worship, adhering to a philosophy that does not involve physical representations of the divine. When individuals begin to share and advocate their religious beliefs with others, misunderstandings and conflicts can arise. Given that humans are often emotional and, at times, not particularly thoughtful in their responses, such exchanges can escalate quickly. Regrettably, only a… Read more »
