Remember how Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s letter contributed to Tunku Abdul Rahman’s downfall as Prime Minister in 1970?
And then 50 years on, in 2020, it was Mahiaddin Yasin turn to do a number on Mahathir after the Sheraton Move, as he outmanoeuvred the latter to take the top job. In the process, he betrayed all those who had voted for change.
Remember too how Mahiaddin himself hastened Abdullah Badawi’s departure in 2009? See how Abdullah forgave him in the video above.
This time, it is Umno pulling the rug from under Mahiaddin’s feet and all the rest of the backdoor entrants. How does that feel?
Poetic justice. What goes around comes around. This government’s days are numbered. We could have a new leader before long.
All this reminds us that power, though enticing, is often fleeting. Make the best use of the time to work for the people while you have the chance.
It is time to let Parliament decide who should lead the country once and for all. Convene Parliament and let MPs take a vote.
Whoever takes over, if it comes to that, must be a person of integrity and must have solid progressive policies to uplift and empower the people, while upholding their basic human rights and parliamentary democracy.
