Pykett Avenue demolition: Update

While the MPPP are going through the motions of taking legal action against those responsible for the sudden demolition of 20 Pykett Avenue, it appears to be also going through the motions of processing the development plans for the area.

From what I hear, the MPPP has not (yet) approved any development plans. Meanwhile, though, take a look at this: the MPPP is now calling for neighbours’ objections to the plans.

The old structure was suddenly demolished before the MPPP could inspect the site. The MPPP has already filed a case in court and is now waiting for the date to be fixed.

The outcome could just be a – which would be peanuts compared to the gross development value of the proposed development. Remember how lightly those who demolished the Metropole Hotel got off – amounting to just a slap on the wrist.

The real test will be when the developer is trying to apply for planning approval – whether the MPPP and the State government will freeze the application. We wait and see.

MPPP orders developer to reconstruct demolished bungalow GEORGE TOWN: The developer responsible for demolishing a building on Lebuhraya Pykett here without permission from the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) has been ordered to restore the building at the original site. “This will be a lesson that no one is above the law, and that all actions must go through the proper channels,” said State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow. “The developer will be ordered to rebuild the building under Section 27 (3) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1976,” he said. In January, Klassik Tropika… Read more »

YB CHOW

Under Town and Country Planning Act, the MPPP can dire t the developer to rebuilt the illegally demolished building. No dispute now to correct an intentional wrong.

Rule of Law, when BN in power, Metropole Hotel, developer fined 5000. this case fined 6000, good job, a 20percent increase, a deterrent sentence. Which developer would dare to demolish another building ??

Bravo DAP and MPPP

Matter heard before Magistrate, developer fined RM6000.

MPPP prosecutor failed to address

1. request for a detterent sentence
2. failed to seek an order to rebuild

To all developers in Penang, demolish any buildings you will only be fined 6000.

3 cheers for Penang

On 17 January 2011, matter will be heard from 830am before the Magistrate court level 5 in the court building opposite Dewan Sri Pinang.

If we can get more people to attend and the press as well, we will e able to show the court that the people of Penang are serious about their believes.

Please show ur support by attending this event.

Well this will open the floodgates for others to do the same. We need solid action on this one. No approvals for the next 5 decades for this land and we will see then how other will do the same.

Kill this project once and for all as a lesson to these type of ruthless and greedy people

I am a resident around Khaw Sim Bee Road Penang.

Why to date MPPP has not taken any action is beyond me. The illegal act occurred in August 2010.

To voice your protest people of Penang please email the Head of MPPP at
