Monorail for Jaipur?

Just spotted these news items here and here on MRails International Sdn Bhd’s reported involvment in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state in India.

I’m not quite sure what to make of these reports. But notice the reference to Penang.

theSun today cites a Nanyang Siang Pau report which state that MRails had also received a “letter of authorisation” from Tangshan Railway Vehicle Company for a proposed magnetic levitation (maglev) train connection between George Town and Butterworth on a joint-venture basis. (Transport Minister Ong Tee Keat has reportedly brushed off such maglev systems as “mission impossible” as Malaysia doesn’t have large enough population catchment areas.)

“Letter of intent”… “letter of authorisation”…  “no obligation letter”…

The real test is capability, experience and credentials.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, the Las Vegas Monorail Company is reportedly considering filing for “Chapter 11 bankruptcy”.

Dear Penangnites

Lim Guan Eng is not giving away the Land free of charge to MRails.

Lim Guan Eng is only allowing MRails to occupy the State Land free of charge for the test of monorail.

Correction

Lim Guan Eng is only allowing MRails to occupy Lim Dynasty State Land free of charge for the test of monorail.

It is not so much of lack of experience but a lack of transparency and accountability that are the root cause. LGE is behaving as a dictator and using the maxim ” Chief Minister Knows the Best” in the traditon of PAP. Read on and ponder some of the questions the writer has posed to the Cheap Minister. Interesting……. ====================================================== Ensure no cover-up on Penang monorail Calvin Sankaran | Jan 4, 10 6:32pm As a strong advocate of sustainable and environmentally-responsible public transportation systems, I had been following with keen interest the development of Penang’s monorail project. it Has happened before , same same Monorail king goes mum May 27, 2007 By Wiseman Khuzwayo Johannesburg – To his friends and associates he is simply JK. The monogram on his expensive striped blue shirt attests to the fact that he loves his nickname. As for the jewellery he wears, it shouts that this is a man of means. Two big gold rings adorn two of the fingers on each hand, while the gold bracelet worn on his right wrist is balanced by a gold watch on the left. It would appear that JK loves everything big. The white… Read more »

After looking through the news clips and their website, one thing is clear that they have no track record but they are working on numerous projects with none of the ground yet. It has all the ingredients of a scandal of international proportions if the company is unable to come out with the cash needed or the technology although we must give them the benefit of doubt that they can deliver. It is a private company, there is nothing one can do to check its credibility although they claim to have a licensing agreement with some company providing this technology.… Read more »

I am all for private enterprise where one invests (or gambles) with one’s own money.

Good luck to all of them.
