Sign of the times: Taiping Lake Garden’s vanishing water

Taiping Lake Garden - SIVADHARMA RAMAKRISHNAN

This is what the Taiping Lake Garden looks like these days. (Photo taken on Saturday.) It’s drying up.

Imagine this is happening in an area that has long been known as the wettest region in the country.

In Penang, water levels at key dams are falling.

But are the politicians highlighting the perils of climate change? No, they are busy with their petty politicking, many of them safeguarding their own interests.

If at all they talk about climate change, it is to express their interest in risky big-ticket projects like carbon capture and storage.

Malaysians must learn to conserve water. A lot of wastage since water price is low.

The Malaysian ringgit climbed to its strongest against the dollar since April 2023 in Tokyo trading on Monday, supported by a solid economy, as weak U.S. economic data spurred selling of the greenback.

No rain is act of God?

Sanusi told us to pray to God for rain.

We should also pray to God for Olympic Gold, high Ringgit value, lower cost of living. In other words, we do need need politicians like him who can do nothing.

An inter-faith group has firmly rebuffed the idea expressed by Terengganu Mufti Mohamad Sabri Haron that Muslims are permitted to enter non-Muslim places of worship to spread Islam.
In a statement last night, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) reminded him that non-Muslim places of worship are places for devotees to gather and pray according to their respective beliefs and practices.

Malaysia is a multiracisl and multi religion country. We have been living in peace and harmony accepting one another, that’s the strength of diversity. No religion is above all. Islam is the official religion but cannot be impose on all.

As s a high ranking sports official from Malaysia for the Olympics, Norza’s priorities should have been for the team members/coaches/advisors/trainers for the athletes and NOT family member – this is not a carnival! This is the highest of sporting event and you blew it!

You can always take your family to Paris for a holiday some other time!

It clearly show where your priorities are. Shameful indeed!

The genius way to promote STEM is to (a) undermine basic literacy including English steadily in schools (b) have no school exams until the last year, and instead have subjective assessments (c) give STEM places in colleges, and scholarships, to disinterested candidates. Bolehland boleh!

This raises an important question regarding the nature of existence under a divine system, one that applies to all individuals regardless of their religious beliefs. From the moment we are born, every living being experiences a universal journey: we progress from infancy to childhood, adolescence to youth, adulthood, middle age, and finally to old age—before ultimately facing death.

Essentially if one notices, we arrive in this world with nothing and depart with nothing.

Throughout our lives, we encounter similar conditions. As we transition from childhood to adulthood, we experience phases of health and illness, joy and sorrow, fulfillment and distress. These experiences are universal, transcending the boundaries of religion, race, or culture. On Earth, it appears that the divine system governing life does not discriminate based on one’s faith, ethnicity, or cultural background; the fundamental experiences of life are the same for everyone. This leads to a critical question: given that individuals across various religious, racial, and cultural backgrounds undergo similar challenges and experiences, how can religious leaders claim that their particular faith is… Read more »

The lake drying up is good for capitalism. We can have a very expensive conduit of canals and tunnelsto bring water from far away. The loan can come from World Bank at unpredictable interest rates.

Selangor was to get water from Pahang, the project costing RM5 billion or maybe more than 10, and lasting over more than a decade. What happened to that?
