1 July is the date when a range of subsidies and price caps are supposed to be removed. Of course, there are other ways to retain some of those critical subsidies. Check out this piece by K Veeriah in Aliran: Delay mega-projects and tax ultra-rich to raise funds for subsidies

Cooking oil price up almost 40% today.
Good excuse for hawkers and restaurants to up their menu price, unless you order steamed food.
Economy Rice may not be economic now as price of chicken, pork, eggs and vegetables also go up.

As the price difference is narrowing, I will now use sunflower seed oil or corn oil instead of palm oil. In a way it is a protest against the huge pay hike of FGV board of directors.

Malaysia is the only silly country in the world that has declared jihad (an Arabic word which literally means “striving” or “struggling”) to fight inflation, even though the entire world is basically facing the same economic problem. None of the 50 Muslim-majority countries, let alone 1.8 billion Muslims on planet Earth – except Malaysia – sees the need to declare jihad on inflation.

China’s Deng Xiaoping once said: “It doesn’t matter whether a cat is black or white, if it catches mice it is a good cat.”. Similarly, it does not matter what term the authorities want to give to fight the inflation if they can get the job done, its a good term to use.

Sorry to say this but ah am just a simple old man with a simple old mind living in his simple old ways.

If Deng Xiaoping says that, as long as the cat can catch a rat, it is a good cat to keep, regardless of what color it is, that’s good enough for me. How would you classify this now?
