Smog hits Sarawak, Kalimantan

Just heard from a friend that Kuching is blanketed by a haze. Visibility is down to just about 1km.

The Department of Environment reveals that Sibu and Sri Aman both have API readings of 105 (unhealthy) at 11.00am. But the readings for Kuching and Samarahan show only 84 and 99 (“moderate”).

The Asean haze monitoring website shows a dense haze shrouding much of central Kalimantan, reaching up north to the Sarawak border. Hotspots indicate that open burning in various locations in Kalimantan and Sarawak is still ongoing.

Sarawak is being raped and plundered by its politicians. If Sarawakians cannot see this and fight back against it political leaders then they will have to live with the poisonous air. What is worse, they are exporting their brand of politicians to West Malaysia and plunders PKFZ.

Latest Scientific reports suggest that Sarawak is now missing and is not anymore to be seen. Satellites flying over the island of Borneo cannot see any land which was once part of Sarawak since the smog has erased Sarawak from view.

I strongly advocate that a global moratorium be declared on industrial logging and mining. For toomany centuries human have gnawed away at the green lungs of teh earth – now we wonder why emphysema, pneumonia and all sorts of mysterious viruses are trying to decimate the human population. In place of wood we can begin to use alloys of natural fiber (I’m told cannabis or hemp is best) and synthetic polymers compressed into beams and planks. There’s already more than enough various kinds of metals on the earth’s surface. We just have to get serious about recycling and reusing these… Read more »

I had experienced API > 400 in Kuching in 1998 and was grounded for one week. Hardly you can see for more than 10ft distance.

Indonesia basically is a lawless nation, all its illegal logging and “chicken farm” are controlled by the military and police.

Some 20 odd years ago, I visited a plywood factory somewhere in Sumatra trying to sell computers to them. Not being too aware of such environmental issues then, I was only thinking from the point of closing a sale. But I had some inkling that they were in fact logging illegally and to avoid government investigation they just torch the area after logging.
OMG, after all those years, I truly believe that is still going on.

LBJ you said…. “Good. Let Sarawak suffers for sending this politician to cause trouble in PKFZ.” This remark is too naive. The minority benifits while the majority suffer? Sad but typical teaching of BN… Hmmmm a point to ponder…..
