Unfair to remove Tanjung Bunga rep’s constituency allocation

The reported decision to remove the RM200,000 constituency allocation from the hands of the Penang State Assembly member for Tanjung Bunga, Teh Yee Cheu, is unfair to him and those who voted him in.

Teh remains the elected representative for Tanjung Bunga.

The allocation is meant for social welfare aid, community events, and small local projects to assist NGOs and places of worship.

Instead, the allocation would apparently be transferred to the Bukit Bendera DAP MP’s office.

Why is Teh, who was elected by the people of Tanjung Bunga and remains their elected rep, being bypassed? To argue that his “performance” has dropped or he is leaving the party is beside the point.

In any case, how do you define performance? Many environmentally conscious Penangites value Teh’s work in speaking out against ecologically damaging development. The environment and climate change is one of the critical issues of our era. Teh’s courage in speaking out puts him head and shoulders above many of the other reps who are quiet in the face of ecologically harmful projects.

You may not agree with what Teh is saying but to deny him his constitunecy allocation smacks of petty vindictiveness.

How different is this from Pakatan MPs or Pakatan Aduns in BN-controlled states being denied special allocations for their parliamentary constituencies and the funds instead being channelled via BN-appointed special constituency coordinators? I don’t like that the same way I don’t like what is being done to Teh. I expected better from a Pakatan administration.

Let’s be clear: special constituency allocations come from public funds. They do not come from party money that can be denied to an elected rep just because he or she has fallen out of favour of his party or comes from an opposing party.

READ MORE:  Emergency rule would take us a step closer to fascism

This is one of the reforms that must be implemented: all elected reps, whether in state assemblies or in Parliament, must receive equal constituency allocations as a matter of right.

LGE is (allegedly) the devil in DAP, … (allegedly) a Top student from UMNO school, with his good acting, he presented himself as a clean politician in the first term. In his 2nd term, his true color surfaced, the direct nego, changing his official car from Camri to Mercedes, bullying PKR 5 for disagreeing with him and the recent YB Teh case.Do we need another devil as state leader?

The DAP has opened a new service centre in Tanjung Bungah in an apparent move to bypass its rebellious assemblyperson Teh Yee Cheu.

The new service centre was officiated by Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow today and also attended by Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari.

Teh’s Tanjung Bungah state seat falls under Zairil’s parliamentary constituency.

DAP needs more fine people like YB Teh, and should appreciate his good work and tireless efforts for the betterment of the party and for the good of the people of Penang, and the environment in particular. Even within the party you need check and balances and the party has to be more open, listen and learn to accept criticisms as they are genuine concerns of the Rakyat. Shame when you’re being penalised for speaking up, and the issue of over-development and the environment is of utmost concern of many, not only for the people of Penang but also for… Read more »

What so difficult about speaking up on environment? But pg is like Hong Kong, land scarce. Any suggestion when everyone wants to stay in the island and driving around the island to hunt for cheap curry mee? To have more land, teh should tell the gomen to relocate the airport to mainland in kedah or perak and use the ideal land for housing. Further it is nearer to the 2 island bridges

If resigning from the party and from the constituency what mood and incentive to work hard? The allocation for the area is still there.

Is this an example of good governance/CAT or using progressive democratic principles? If DAP can’t even tolerate dissent by a member of their own party, do you think they will tolerate criticism when rule the country? They will behave like Mahatir by locking up their opponents and muzzle the media. Even with little power LGE is behaving like a little Kim. Imagine if he’s the PM…..

Advice from Patrick Teoh:
Is it better not to waste time voting if you plan to spoil your vote? No, no matter what, GOTV! Go Out To Vote! You never know, your conscience might change your decision when you’re at the voting center. So go out to vote even if you fully intend to spoil your vote. At least you’ll exercise your right to vote and reduce the chance for some ghost to vote for you.

When you are at the polling station, chances are your vote may change due to elastic emotional quotient & less on fixed logic of an abacus:
70% emotion (esp. if you hate to the depths of hell of BN),
30% logic (if you made up your mind the previous night).

Pettiness + vindictiveness (of a Niao Kong?) won’t make a great political party made up of different talents + dare-to-talk individuals as expected from that 308 hao-soi-tor pitch-selling. Better be another BN clone & be prepared to pay a heavy price comes GE14.
