Human rights lawyer Eric Paulsen’s arrest cause for concern

Feeling disturbed by the arrest and two-day remand of human rights lawyer Eric Paulsen over a tweet regarding Jakim.

It was only about three weeks ago that Eric had spoken out strongly against deaths in custody. See this video.

I also cannot help thinking about the outcome of the Altantuya murder trial. The motive of those convicted in the murder remains unclear, and the whole case leaves many of us with more questions than answers. So there doesn’t seem to be real closure.

It is also strange that the faces of the pair have not yet been revealed to the public.

And how was Sirul allowed to leave the country? I am opposed to capital punishment (for one thing, they could take their secrets to the gallows without any hope of future revelations), but like many others, I wonder how he could have left the country.

How could it be possible that one of the Altantunya’s murderers, Sirul, be allowed to travel to Australia before the court case? Interesting that the Australian government do not agree to extradiction as the Aussie is agaisnt capital punishment. So Sirul could possibly get asylum in Asutralia? Australia ought to be careful as they have never learnt from the Sydney hostage incident. Anyway Sirul could possibly spill the secret behind the Altantunya’s murder while in Australia to protect his innocence? Meawhile our Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin responded to the recent K-pop hugging incident by tweeting that Malay girls should look… Read more »

Anil : An acquittal formally certifies that the accused is free from the charge of an offense, as far as the criminal law is concerned. When you are acquitted, it means that you are free. So there is no need to hold back your passport unless you are discharged not amounting to acquittal.

Sirul killed Altantuya. Court said so. The question is Sirul has no reason to unless he was given the order. By whom? All could be revealed down under?

While it is the right of the police to investigate and to question Paulsen.
The remand is something else and outrageous.
The police also over done it by having 20 cops to “arrest” Paulsen.
Unless Paulsen have a license to carry a gun, maybe it might need 20 cops.

Either the PDRM is overstaffed or the deployment of human resources could be improved

Eric would probably report himself at the police station had he been asked to do so albeit with the presence of his legal representatives. Alternatively, he can be taken to the police station in a police patrol car manned by 2 police personnel should he failed to show himself up by a certain time. There is no need whatsoever to launch such a massive (wasteful) operation like those shown in the local fictitious TV series Gerak Khas. After all, productivity optimization is all about achieving a desired result with the use of minimal resource which in this case is funded… Read more »

Gerak Khas is more a jenaka show.

Why the content of the letter from Zahid Hamidi to FBI is protected under OSA?
Poker Kingpin Paul Phua is an asset to PDRM that requires police protection?

If Gerak Khas were a jenaka show, the producer should seriously consider roping in IGP Khalid Abu Bakar and Alvin Tan for special guest appearances. For what you know, ‘this lovable pair’ might even become a hit so much so that a spin-off TV series with them as the main casts can be created. Remember the 1980s spin-off TV series ‘The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo’? And who exactly is this Kingpin Paul Phua who is purportedly involved in national security which requires police protection? Is he a former informer who has been given a new identity or an undercover agent?… Read more »

Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo challenged IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to order a police report be lodged against his superior, Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, over a letter of support to the FBI. Zahid had claimed in the letter that Paul Phua was instrumental in helping Malaysia on national security projects may itself be an offence under the Official Secrets Act 1972. Section 8 of the OSA referred to persons who have in their possession or control any official secret and how it would be an offence if these persons wrongly communicated such official secrets with… Read more »

The mainstream media should publish in full the Friday sermon from Jakim every Friday in order for all to appreciate its content, to avoid any misunderstanding.

Since the face of the 2 Altantunya murderers are never shown, how can we be sure that the right persons are sent to the gallows, and not some ‘substitutes’ instead?

Re Jakim.. The report was lodged by the movement’s Religious Bureau chairman Azmir Yuzaimi Mohd Yunos, who said that police should take stern action against Paulsen as this was not the first time he had made a seditious statement via his Twitter account. “He had many times before this made provocative remarks against Islam but after being criticised, the criticism just died like that. “This time, we want real stern action taken against him so that he does not repeat his misdeed,” he said. Is Paulsen right about Jakim promoting extremism every Friday? http://www.therakyatpost.com/news/2015/01/10/paulsen-right-jakim-promoting-extremism-every-friday/ Other remarks by opposition such as… Read more »

Latest Jakim Friday sermon has claimed that the tudung malay girls in the K-Pop hugging incident are sinners.

Can human beings pass judgement on behalf of the Almighty?

Where is the element of forgiveness in this instance? Why such affinity to punishment?

The hugging incident gets trending on BBC:

I thought the Nick Vujicic was actively promoting 8 Life Lessons with his ‘Give Me A Hug’ book that is popular in Malaysia as the book was once on the best seller list of MPH and Popular bookstores here?
