‘Silat group’ fails to show up for protest at Aliran office and Komtar

Update: It was also a no show at Komtar, where the group was supposed to stage a protest after the Friday solat prayer. In the event, only light strike force and other police personnel were present.

Original post:

No one turned up for a protest at the Aliran office around noon today despite a notice having been circulated over social media saying a silat group would be staging a demonstration outside the reform group’s premises in Jelutong, Penang.

According to the notice, the group was purportedly unhappy over the photo of a picture-stomping incident allegedly taken during the Bersih rally. The photo showed a female stomping on a (doctored?) photo apparently of Najib and Hadi.

Light strike force and other police personnel arrived outside the Aliran office just before noon to monitor the situation but the ‘protesters’ failed to show up.

Aliran, which is part of the Bersih 2.0 coalition and is represented on the coalition’s steering committee, had organised a forum on Bersih 4 in Penang ahead of the rally proper.

Possibly sensing that trouble is inevitable in the red shirt rally on Sept 16, various malay groups are now disclaiming themselves as organiser?

Pesaka: Kami bukan ‘baju merah’

Najib should be held accountable for any ill consequence (if) the group run amok.

One good comment on Malaysiakini:

During the Bersih 4 rally, orders were given out by Zahid that no Umno members should be seen attending the rally, but now he contradicted himself with “I think that is the individual rights of Umno members”.

Zahid is indirectly encouraging those red-shirt protestors to stage the counter rally (a show of might against the Chinese). If such is not the behaviour of a racist, then what is?

As such, should there be any outbreak of violence, Zahid must solely be blamed and held responsible.

Perkasa and Isma have probably distanced themselves from endorsing the “red shirt” rally for fear of being equated with an event that will likely be viewed as “fascistic” and “ultra-nationalistic. The red shirts rally is clearly an overreaction to the Bersih rally. It will hurt the groups endorsing it rather than be add to their stature or support. Perhaps most important of all, a counter rally with such a vague and amorphous objective, to restore or recover Malay dignity and to directly link it with condemnation of the Bersih rally, will look bad for any group wanting to participate

Prophet Muhammad had said: “An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.’ The quote, Nurul Izzah said, clearly showed that Islam forbade tribalism at expense of justice, and this invalidates the need for the Himpunan Maruah Melayu gathering. “The excuses from the Himpunan Maruah Melayu gathering are so superfluous that they range from being a response to Low Yat, Bersih 4 to recovery of Umno’s pride – a… Read more »

Zahid Hamidi will never ban Red Shirt Himpunan Maruah Melayu because he is following the footsteps of TA Razak, Najib’s father who dethrone Tuanku Abd Rahman and took over his position as UMNO President & PM (following) a racial riot May69. So what goes around come around, it is going to happen to Najib and all these will benefit Zahid. My concern should there be properties and lives … taken and destroyed, that’s all. and MCA just stood by to let it happen(?) they have to do someting as they have pledge allegiance to UMNO at all cost…?

We shall see how much rubbish and garbage could be left behind by the red shirt protesters.

If this group want to hold a protest, let them .
This way, many more Malaysians and the world will get to know which group is demanding fairness and peace.
Which group can hold peaceful protest and which group that will run around … on rampage.

How was the Perak PR government brought down (and the ‘new’ BN government installed} soon after Najib became the PM? As far as I can remember, there were no election although the then Speaker tried in vain to dissolve the state assembly to pave the way for one. Also not to be forgotten how was how the then Speaker was rudely dragged out from his chair by the police. And above all else, the smug and sinister smile on Najib’s face when he declared that the BN had successfully taken over the Perak state government. So when Najib talked about… Read more »

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today demanded that Umno minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan apologise to Penangites over his slanderous remarks on land reclamation projects in the state. Peaceful demonstration is a form of expression by the people to raise certain issues of concern. This form of expression involves the direct participation of individuals as opposed to less direct and ‘faceless’ approaches through representatives or petitions. The animated presence of real people, especially in great number, is able to create a greater impression onto others when putting a message across. It is therefore a powerful democratic tool in the dissemination of information and even more so in the run-up to an election or to force a change peacefully within the boundaries of the constitution. Therefore, it is way… Read more »

Is stepping on a picture or photograph a crime? Not too long ago , we had seen people burning effigies and flags belonging to Israel and Denmark. Some even shouted to kill a Danish cartoonist. And there was this incident where money was offered to anyone who slaps a certain politician. Was anyone ever arrested for that?
