Bersih 2.0: Aliran president Rama receives death threat

First Ambiga, then reportedly other members of the Bersih steering committee – and now Aliran president P Ramakrishnan has received a death threat via sms.

Aliran is a member of the Bersih coalition and is represented on the Bersih steering committee.

These threats are disturbing, but peace-and-justice-loving Malaysians will not cower in fear. We stand in solidarity with all those threatened with personal harm.

Rama responds as follows:

Today, at around 1.00pm, I received an sms from +601119732179. The message conveyed to me was in Bahasa Malaysia and read…

What I received is apparently the same as those received by the steering committee members of Bersih 2.0. Aliran is part of Bersih 2.0 and is represented on its steering committee, and we are committed to free and fair elections, which are crucial to the democratic process.

The message in the sms is full of venom, threatening death to Ambiga and warning to kill all those around her one by one. It reeks with racial hatred and blatantly concocts lies that have no basis. It seeks to communalise an issue that concerns free and fair elections, which is supported by a wide spectrum of our civil society. (Full statement on Aliran website)

Peaceful rally like Bersih 2.0 should be allowed.
But those political parties should not.

Crying wolf ??? Fishing for public sympathy ???

Anyway, Bersih 2.0 still illegal despite various diversion tactics being used. I can’t wait for those illegal assemblers being dispersed with tear gases and water canon.

It must be joyful to watch.

Hey, don’t touch my idol !!! You have to consider the reasons and options during that time. The EC already indicated that they are willing to discuss anything. But why Bersih 2.0 still stubborn to go ahead with its rally ???

This person threatening death must be ferreted out and charged in court. He should not be allowed to go around wiht his threats but must be exposed and taught a lesson that this is not a lawless country.

The guy who sent the sms is using yes broadband most likely originated from KL or Selangor. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) should have no problem to find out who is the owner of this +601119732179. Let see whether the government will take action against this fellow or not. Why the registration exercise for hand phone users? The government have no excuse that it can’t identified the person who sent the threat.

Hi OES,

Yes, I agree with you that with the registration of mobile phone users, the Govt has no excuse not to be able to identify the culprit and despicable fella sending those SMS threats!

Arrest that fella or fellas involved in criminal intimidations! Failure by the Police and other authorities to identify these criminals (would) certainly show (who) are the puppet masters!
