Aussie police move in on Tecoma McDonald’s protest

Australian police moved in at dawn today to remove a roof-top protester who had been camping at the top of a building slated for demolition to make way for a McDonald’s fast food outlet, which is opposed by the local community in Tecoma.

She is to be charged with criminal trespass.

The protesters show no signs of backing off, however.

Meanwhile, The Age reports that Australian burger buyers are abandoning McDonald’s.

I see this case as a telling insight into the might of a giant MNC vs the wishes of a local community. Let’s see who will prevail – and at what price.
