Burma’s pro-democracy leader has arrived in Geneva to address an international labour conference.

Here is Suu Kyi arriving in Geneva some hours ago:

But her first visit outside Burma since she was elected to Parliament was to Burmese migrant workers in Thailand.

Millions of Burmese have fled their country over the years because of the brutal military dictators in their country. Finally, they see a glimmer of hope in the courageous Suu Kyi and her colleague’s struggle for democracy.

But the ruthless military regime is still in power in Burma even as MNCs and global banking institutions queue up to to enter Burma. Let’s hope the long-suffering people of Burma are not taken for a ride.
