Former exco member Khor Gark Kim has rated Koh Tsu Koon’s performance as the worst among Penang’s chief ministers so far. (And to think that Koh is now in charge of monitoring Key Perfomance Indicators at the federal level…)
All I can say is if you look at the quality of life in Penang – the overall environment including congestion, the state of cleanliness, water and sea pollution, the cutting of hill-slopes, haphazard property development – since the 1970s, it has clearly deteriorated over the years.
This report from The Star:
Guan Eng’s situation likened to Chong Eu’s struggle
July 27, 2009THE challenges faced by Lim Guan Eng as Penang Chief Minister are similar to those faced by Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, China Press quoted former Penang exco member Datuk Khor Gark Kim as saying.
He said both became Chief Minister when they were in the Opposition.
“Chong Eu’s biggest problem was to ensure the nation’s stability, and development was second in his priority at that time.
“The anti-establishment sentiment was very strong at that time because many government policies were obsolete and the country was lagging behind,” he said.
He said Guan Eng’s situation was similar to Chong Eu’s struggle and whether he could make it as a successful chief minister would depend on the state government’s relationship with the Federal Government.
In a special interview with the daily, Khor also said among the four chief ministers, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon was the worst in terms of performance.
“His team members did not have the guts to perform their duties sincerely.
“Everyone of his state assemblyman only wanted to be the ‘nice guy’,’’ he added.
He said Dr Koh inherited a state with rich resources when he took over the office from Dr Lim.
“Both the state government and the Federal Government were ruled by the Barisan Nasional during his time and he did not have too many difficulties like Chong Eu and Guan Eng,” he said.
“However, he lost everything after 18 years as chief minister and this shows that there were weaknesses during his governance,” Khor said.
I thought I was dreaming when I came across this report. No doubt Khor (could) be up for some goodies from his colleagues.
Or is this a precursor to joining the most in and hip coalition to date?

Seems more and more BN guys are seeing the truth on the other side.
Its no secret that KTK has brought Penang to such a deploring and sad state and now that they have no more chance to milk the already dry cow….its time to jump. PR should be careful and watch out for such…. But till far…Penang exBn guys are showing their good mettle and should prove and show their real strength rather than just “kow-tow” to UMNO-BN.
Its time for all Penang MCA and Gerakan people to wake up and use whatever last guts you have to leave BN and join PR and Penang will see the light at the end of the tunnel and in fact the light is already brightening since 308…BRAVO…

Whatever Khor Gark Kim’s intention is, I support this opinion of his. Koh is just a Cheap Minister (CM). It is no surprise the GERAKan he heads (and is still Heading…. for complete doom) was mutilated in 308. He just know how to show of his skill in speaking Bahasa Malaysia ( or is it Bahasa Melayu, or Bahasa Baku or whatever). I still remember the black & blue messages of CHANGE written on white cloths strung all over Penang….you know like the colour you see at funerals…so eerie. No wonder they kena hantam so teruk!!! How can he be a leader when this simple thing he cant even see.

Pathetic and disgraceful do not even begin to describe Koh Tsu Koon’s 18 years performance as CM.
This guy portrays himself as clean and gentlemanly and yet does not even have the decency to provide public accountability on a piece of state/trust land that he sold for RM3.2m in 2005, the same piece that the new owners / developers are now demanding RM 150m from the present state government.
The magnitute of this price appreciation in just four years will put even Khir Toyo and his palatial palace to shame.
And we have not even touched on the destruction of an entire community’s way of life !!!

It must be Koh’s lucky day today. The man himself announced that he will be personally overseeing the six ministers regarding the six NKRAs.
The KPI minister must be thrilled. Less work.

I like Koh Tsu Koon for his politeness and i think he is quite a humble person.
However, Dr Koh really sucks as a politician!!! See, how he was bullied by his UMNO’s colleagues.
Worst of all, really, Penang under his rule for 18 years is really like what the Hokkien called it, “wan ong”. A beautiful island has become so filthy…
Remember Lee Kuan Yew’s comments abt Penang when he visited the island lately?
I think Dr Koh should go back to his teaching job, maybe this is something that suits him more. Dont waste the God’s given gift -share your wide knowledge and experience with the people through the classroom.

Thank you Mr Khor for telling Penangites the truth. It is never too late for you to help undo some of the mess created by Koh Tsu Khoon in Penang. Perhaps… join Pakatan first?
I fully concur with you your views on Koh Tsu Khoon, a useless CM and now pandering to the PM as backdoor minister, he knows no shame.

To be frank, KTK is not cut out to be a politician. He’s too nice, too polite and too politically weak. That’s his biggest weakness.
However, to call him as the worst CM is rather premature. Our current Cheap Minister in fact has caught up with KTK and made up for KTK’s 18 years in a mere 1.5 years in power.
It is a joke to compare the situation of LGE with LCU. LCU faced challenges that were almost impossible to overcome. On the otherhand, LGE far more popular support and an understanding electorate that willing to give him time and the benefit of doubt.
To say the Fed govt deprived Penang of funds also is grossly incorrect as the state did receive a few mega projects after and before March 08 that will be delivered during LGE’s tenure. Furthemore a few more major projects likely to come Penang way once the country has come out of the recession.
In fact it is a fact that KTK suffered far more than LGE in terms of funding as under TDM, the funds were directed to develop Kedah and Langkawi while Penang suffered. Only when Pak Lah and later when Najib took over did the funds started to flow Penang’s way.
LGE also enjoys something that KTK did not,ie, strong political power due to the dominant number of seats DAP has over the others in DUN. The lack of political power is the most important issue that clipped KTK’s wings.
So in nutshell, LGE has the easiest job as the CM of all Penang’s CM. Unfortunately he has been a abjact failure given all these favourable macro environment.

What a BIG joke that Koh TK is now incharge of monitoring the KPI of ministers….hahahahaha…Its real sad that Malaysia has come to such a mess that BN has to appoint someone who cannot even keep his own KPI to monitor others….
I wont be surprise he will kow-tow again to the other ministers by giving a very good mark-up report on their ministeries….its expected as he is good for nothing except to carry the… of UMNO people.
I remember he said he will “NEVER” accept a senatorship and not even a ministership but now see what happened? Gerakan members….this is the kind of leader you guys want???? Real pity your fellas in Gerakan….own boss is so flip-flop and now even your youth even go to make stupid unrealistic police report about present CM moving to a rented house…which is anything but pittance… As the CM of Penang we should be proud to allow him the comfort of straying in a nice house since the old official residence had being so used by KTK till the termites are so angry and eat up almost all the timber there.

‘Mr Clean’ or whatever name you may call… but what makes everyone think he is a coward is when he dare not to say or do anything when his own photo was taken down & torn apart by his UMNO friends. I can’t imagine such person will still get the respect from his own members. Maybe those members is ‘following by example’.

How on earth can Gerakan have such a leader for many donkey years…beyond belief! or maybe he is easily controlled by umno and very submissive to their demands. Those racists tore his picture and he did nothing… Gerakan too! NO wonder Penang is in such a pathetic state. Now, he REFUSED to cooperate with LGE to solve Penang’s many problems when asked… Kg Buah Pala, I guess if KTK opens his mouth and leak out the secrets, they may just decide to “rough him up”. Well done.

Hi Anil,
What Khor Gark Kim said about KTK is common knowledge to Penangites.
Why not take a poll on it in your blogspot? The results would be obvious and I dare say that the political eunuch would just bury his head like the ostrich, even though the potential poll results then would be so telling!!
What credibility (or rather more appropriately no-credibility) does he and his Gerakan have? A president who on the eve of the 12th GE declared that he wouldn’t be a back-door minister, but now gladly accepting the post – so grateful to his political masters, that he conveniently forgot that a 3rd tier UMNO leader could so blatantly tore up his photo and stepped on it! What a joke that he is a minister in-charge of KPIs, when his own KPI as a former CM is so deplorable! Ask Penangites about his KPI.

Agree 100% Koh Tsu Khoon is THE LOUSIEST CM of Penang.
During his tenure as CM he created more messes for Penangites.
Look at the KG Pala scandal, he buat tak tahu only. Good at blaming GE when in fact he is the source of trouble.
Anyway, it is GOODBYE FoR EVER! GERAKAN!
Koh, can you please stop hiding in PutraJaya and come back to solve KG Pala scandal! You have caused so much hardship for People in Penang!!

Koh Tsu Koon was an unmitigated disaster as Penang’s CM.
He enjoyed the trappings of the CM’s office and allowed his BN cronies to rape and plunder Penang.
If KTK has any pride, any self-respect and any honour, he should just fade into oblivion.
The contempt with which the Penang Umno boys treated him speaks for itself and it is a contempt shared by most Penangites.

Koh Tsu Koon had such deplorable evaluation as CM. A clear non performer. The lower 5 percentile slotted to be fired. Now putting such a lousy performer as Minister of KPI is asking for disaster for the country.
Malaysia, land of mediocrity.
