Something is brewing…
Just 48 hours to go for the Tuesday deadline to expire.
That’s the deadline given by Anwar for the PM to convene Parliament for an emergency sitting.
I am getting a little “chatter” which suggests that something could be brewing… I can imagine there is probably a lot of behind-the-scenes activity going on in KL.
Earlier, I had been informed that Anwar was expected to be in Permatang Pauh this weekend.
Instead, it was Wan Azizah who showed up for a little constituency work as Anwar was tied up in KL with strategising.
One blogger at the scene told me that reporters asked her whether Anwar had sent a letter to the Agong and whether Anwar would be meeting the Agong.
Wan Azizah wasn’t saying much.
“She appeared coy, like she knew something and wanted to say it, but wasn’t at liberty to tell just yet,” said a blogger at the scene. “She didn’t look worried at all.”
Meanwhile, there appears to be a battle going on within Umno among the Mahathir-inspired reactionary forces and the remnants of the Abdullah camp.
The other battle shaping up is between Najib, the eventual leader of a post-Abdullah Umno (assuming he prevails) and the Anwar-led Pakatan.
Abdullah faces a stark choice. Will he be forced to hand over power by 9 Oct, as some have suggested, with his legacy in tatters? Or is there a way out to ensure that the reforms he once promised but failed to deliver can still be fulfilled even without him being in power? It would not have failed to have escaped his notice how Zaid was feted as a hero after he quit the Cabinet on a matter of principle.
“Political alignments are changing fast,” a veteran KL-based political commentator told me.
With Abdullah facing some tough choices, will Anwar succeed in persuading him to convene Parliament before the scheduled 13 October sitting?
The other big question now: Will the Agong look favourably on Anwar’s request?
In recent months, we have seen the royalty flexing their muscles and exerting their influence in the selection of state chief ministers. I would hazard a guess that they could be playing a significant role this time around as well.
The next few days will see whether the impossible can become possible. From what I hear, things are “progressing well”…
The next 48 hours could be crucial.

You know, in my dreams I dreamt that Pak Lah initiated a secret meeting with Anwar on Friday or Saturday to cobble up a deal wherein Pak Lah could exit peacefully with a promise from Anwar that there won’t be a witch hunt on Pak Lah, his family and of course beloved son-in-law. Akin to the deal Mahathir made with Pak Lah when he had to resign 5 years ago.
Well, I did say it was a dream. I can dream, can’t I?
This is my theory why Badawi refuses to meet Anwar and will he resign by 9 Oct. Ridiculous? Like the man said, “Anything is possible in politics!”

something may be brewing but just make that fuel and food prices are down, stocks and oil palm ffb prices are up.
The cleansing rains will come in torrents when enough clouds have gathered - a Chinese proverb
Everyboyy knows that it is in Abdullah’s strategic interests that Anwar takes over. I don’t know if he is intellgent enough to get it but I believe he will make the right choice at his sunset days. There are sometimes the Almighty guides even the dumbest to the Right Path. Anwar has a soft spot for Abdullah and his family. But if Mr. X and his gang whom we know who is behind them (The Grand Master), then that will be the end of Dollah, his family and all those related to him.
Asalamualaikum
Memang tidak ada masa untuk tunggu pilihanraya umum.
DSAI terpaksa menyelamatkan negara tersayang sekarang juga
demi kepentingan semua rakyat.
Ameen.
If I were Abdullah Badawi I would go in a display of fireworks. I would re-convene Parliament and call Anwar’s bluff. At least he can then say he did something right for a change to make up for what he did not do right, i.e. not supporting his former de facto Law Minister, Zaid, in carrying out the necessary reforms he promised the people after the March elections.
The waiting game is coming closer. The uncertainty created is making life more interesting. Why not, once in our life time we are watching the change in government is taking place. Will democracy prevail in Malaysia is very much in the hand of Pak Lah. Nothing is impossible in politics, as the saying goes, there is no permanent enemy or friend in politic but only permanent interest, if Pak Lah is a season politician, he should not hesitate as the best exit strategy was offered by Pakatan Rakyat. Let prove to Malaysians and the world as head of Islam hadhari, he is practicing what he preaches, deep in his heart he knows what best for the nation and her people but has he got the political will to execute the long awaiting CHANGE agenda that he himself is craving ever since he took over power. Let all Malaysian wait and see our courages PM placing his final touch on the future of the nation. Good Luck Mr. Prime MInister. IN GOD WE TRUST.
I hope Anwar will get an audience with the King to resolve this matter if the sleepy flipflop guy refuse to hold the meeting on Tuesday.
If PKR is to come to power, I believe its high time for our country to move forward.
DSAI is trying his best to be a gentleman. He wants to do it peacefully. But Badawi still thinks he is bluffing. But I think Badawi actually knows his numbers are up and refuse to accept it. What Badawi is doing is really bad for the country, bad for business and bad for you and me. If this drags on, somebody may have to SOS the Agong to step in. As it is, business generally is badly affected after the last price increase of petrol and diesel. Now we have this issue still unsolved. Believe me, something have to break in the coming days.
Politics is the art of the impossible.
ANWAR “ONCE IN A LIFETIME LEADER” CHANGE = WE CAN BELIEVE IN
The winds of change which swept across the world.
MERDEKA ! MERDEKA !! MERDEKA !!!
Pak Lah has promised a lot of reforms to the Rakyat and he must fulfill his promises before he is forced to step down by his own people who blame him for everything after the 8th Mac defeat.
After all, he always says he is a man of principle and he is the PM for all races in Bolehland.
As a sincere and respectable muslim, he has to honour his promises without fear or favour.
But with M and others who are eager to repeat what has happened to Tunku Abdul Rahman before, looks like Pak Lah’s ill fate is unavoidable.
Can his successors honour his promises? We shall see.
Too bad.
Why dont AAB take a leaf from Mbeki who resigned when told by his party to do so. Save us a bruising confrontation. Mbeki put his country before self.
what makes you think the King will want to intervene? i don’t see no angle why the king would want his hand dirtied by this politics when the parliment is starting on oct 13.
In the end, Parliament (could be) dissolved for rakyat to choose their government.
UMNO election (could be) postponed for GE13. More time for AAB to consolidate.
BN continues to govern until GE13. No vote of confidence.
Something is brewing
Yeah the change of government
Every one is anxiously waiting
Right in the kopitiam talk
UMNO is reeling
The warlords want their chief to go
Afraid when he stays too long
Implosion will happen
UMNO will disintegrate
Pushing its president
Letting him know he has to go
Yet the people hope
He will do his last good work
Release all ISA detainees
Then he can wave his goodbyes
Anwar works his magic
Giving enough rope to appease
The government leader to take steps
To meet him to solve the impasse
Calling his bluff doesn’t solve the issue
It is better the sleeping beauty calls Parliament
Lay the cards once and for all
See who will run the show
Something is brewing
Amongst the warlords I am sure
Trying their best to find ways
Before the ground breaks
Anwar must be sure
Otherwise his creditability is ruined
For he will find it hard to establish his reputation
When the truth isn’t found its way
Something is brewing
The sky is dark the rain has fallen
The ground is wet
Will it happen?
The changing of guards on the hill
Who the heck is anwar to demand this meeting and that meeting? He is just an MP who is desperate to be the PM. He tried and failed miserably with Sept 16. Why can’t he just wait for the next general elections? In the meantime he and his pakatan cronies should just try to take care of their 5 states.
Some sages say ” the evening crowns the day ”
Dear Pak Lah, if you haven’t done enough good for our country in the day, please, I beg, at least in facing your imminent sunset, do something particularly good for Malaysia to recoup some dignity.
Anil, what happened to my comments ?
I not agree Anwar force change the government Rakyat Malaysia elected in March 2008.
Not gentleman.
Wait until next General Election, if Anwar wants to be PM legitimately and with proper approval of Rakyat.
First it was September 16. Now it’s some idiotic deadline to convene an emergency Parliament sitting. The power to call for one is the prerogative of the PM, not the opposition leader. Guys, are you that stupid or just plain gullible to fall for Anwar’s stunts?
Fomca,
Why the frustrated tone ? Take it easy, if you are able to see a bigger picture, Sept 16th actually didn’t fail. Instead, you failed to see that Sept 16th was only the start to where we will be when the takeover materializes. Datuk Seri is dong us all a favour by improving the economy & stability of our beloved country and you should be ashamed of yourself for thinking otherwise.
You seem to be happy with what’s going on with the country and am blatant, blind to the issues at hand. BN/ UMNO has NOT done much for us the RAKYAT and since the 12th GE, are so focused on power grip which is non beneficial. they should stay focused on improving the living conditions but instead too busy with the transition of power. Bear in mind that this regime has been dictating us for the past 51 years and changes have to be strategized, implemented with caution.
Sleep well my dear friend, we only want what’s best for the nation. By the way, what do you know about the 5 states ? Is there major problems that we are not seeing ?
The comments to Fomca are also echoed to Fee, zappa and all commentors who are not able to see where our country is heading to.
Have some faith with PR, namely Datuk Seri Anwar and God willing, we will start to see a more civilized administration focusing on the needs of the people.
Abdullah will betray everybody but himself. Many still regard him as better than Dr M because he seemingly has been less harsh and draconian in his approach. I think it is splitting hairs to make this comparison.
Abdullah just cannot wield Mahathir’s or Harry Lee’s methods. If you rule with an overt iron hand, you’ve got to have the stomach and stamina of the street-fighter to withstand the inevitable reaction from your victims and opponents. Those who live by the sword die by the sword, whether at the hands of a Brutus or by harakiri, as Mahathir’s outcaste status and resignation from UMNO testify. Abdullah has the stomach of an entirely different kettle of fish.
Abdullah’s entire career reflect the stealthy and shadowy use of the hidden or borrowed “keris”, by which he has not only survived the splitting of UMNO and escaped the fate of all his predecessors as Dr M’s number two, but eased into the top job with reputation intact and shining ever more brightly and delivered to himself the crowning glory of 2004. Not a few UMNO stalwarts are witnesses to his talent and capacity at plotting.
A characteristic of the plotter is the uncanny tendency or capacity to under-estimate the bystander and ultimately overplay his hand. Abdullah’s instincts have always convinced him that the general Malaysian public and kampong folk are a sub-species in both intelligence and passion that posed only a peripheral and fickle threat to his rule. To the chattering classes, he offered more space for chattering and to the kampong folk his homilies.
The real thrust of his policies was directed at the pillars of power…. Thus, we had the merry Abdullah years, an unprecedented free-for-all that has made even Mahathir weep. …
These tumultuous days, as the games unravel, the ball gets fumbled as Abdullah slips the hot ISA potatoes to Syed Hamid who tosses it on to some headless chickens. Treasure us these hazy and crazy days of Abdullah’s and UMNO’s last summer as we the citizens of our beloved land are entertained by the last pantheons of clowns and jugglers, the Najibs and the Muhyydins, et al.
We will bid our farewell to neither a Caesar nor a Brutus, nor to a Cassius who neither aimed for nor made it to the top, but to a man whom Malaysian history will judge with bemused sympathy.

I study dreams. Yours is called vivid dreaming because you get the names, the day, the message clearly. So I say to you keep on dreaming, it might just turn into reality in your world sooner than you think.
Fee: Why do people like you have such short memories? Just ask yourself, was the last General Election conducted in a fair manner? Would the PR win if not for the dirty tactics of BN, PDRM and the EC? If you honestly believe it was a fair election, then you can demand PR to behave gentlemanly.
Thabo Mbeki gave up power gracefully.
What are the chances that we will see the same thing in Malaysia?
Dear All
Here’s some interesting analysis of the recent ISA arrests
http://www.malaysiawaves.com/2008/09/teresa-kok-was-tool-to-bigger-objective.html
If Badawi is a nationalist he would hand power over to Anwar rather than Najib. Its the responsible think to do to ensure the program of reform would take place. In the end Badawi (may be perceived to be) a racist who believe that without the NEP and Islamisation, that his race would be ill-treated. …
Badawi will try to cling on power as long as he could.
Will the Malaysian government collapse or can it overcome an attempt by the opposition to take power? Could Anwar Ibrahim, the main leader of the opposition, become the next Prime Minister with the Pakatan Rakyat in government? Find out the answer at http://asocialistmalaysia.blogspot.com/
Quote: Wan Azizah wasn’t saying much.“She appeared coy, like she knew something and wanted to say it, but wasn’t at liberty to tell just yet,” said a blogger at the scene. “She didn’t look worried at all.” Unquote.
Lim Kit Siang had been looking oddly happy too when I saw him about a week ago. Hope they are cooking up a nice feast for the country!
Well written, Simon Li. You don’t get to be the number one that easily, even if you do happen to resemble Leonardo di Caprio.
The whole trouble with Malaysia’s political leadership is that it is either too focused on the charisma (Tun Mahathir) of the leader on the one hand or on the soundness of policies (the reform agenda of AAB) on the other hand. This split between the policy maker and the policy is further aggravated by the government’s constant excuse of distinguishing a policy objective and its implementation.
How often do we hear that AAB had the right vision and the right policies but did not have the political will or the right bureacrats to carry them out. Imagine what happens when a CEO of a listed company tries to talk up his company’s share price by blaming his own staff for the company’s losses. The share price collapse will ensure that he gets fired with his team, including the so-called independent directors.
Msian politics needs more competition and the press greater leeway to criticise policies and expose corruption. An intellectual revival in the nation is impossible if they clamp down on bloggers and MPs for what? Issues that do not even touch the core of policies about governance.
So the question today is not who will be the next PM, but will Msia take one baby step forward in intellectual discussion and debate about economics, politics, religion, etc? That step begins by all leaders admitting frankly all the errors and sins of commission and nurturing a viable opposition party for checks and balances.
I don’t think Pak Lah will resign. In fact, what he has done now is clinging to his power, by changing the ministry of military, he has already rule out military coup against him. The only choice left is for our beloved YDPA to KICK BN out.
Muhammad Firdaus Christopher
I’m afraid it is you who is not able to see the big picture. The elections happened in March 2008. It’s over. If the elections weren’t fair, PR would not have won 5 states. There is now an opportunity to showcase PR’s governance in these 5 major states and prove that PR can move this country forward. Instead, what we have is more politicking to destablise the country. All to further the political ambitions of one man, Anwar Ibrahim.
So far, we’ve heard only words from the purported messiah. Where is the proof that he will do all he says? Selangor is Malaysia’s richest state. With Selangor under PKR’s control, Anwar has all the means to do it. Show the people of Malaysia how we don’t need to depend on the federal govt to succeed.
And look at Anwar’s action not just his words. He said he would take action against that … Zulkifli Noordin. What action? How can you trust a man who says one thing but does something else altogether?
macha, your article has been nothing but pure speculations. it is really funny to think that you guys have a lot of theories on what anwar wants to do or did. all have been nothing but some baseless allegations. so, what’s with wan azizah not wanting to tell the public of the ’secret information’? i mean, come on. you never consider a worst-case scenario too. probably wan azizah too doesn’t what his husband is up too. see, anything is possible.
there is too much politicking going on here in malaysia and it is not helping us all apart from just giving personal satisfaction. beyond that, we earn nothing. both sides should just focus on their jobs. it’s been 6 months, what have you heard from your governments? be it pr or bn controlled-government? so far, i heard nothing concrete. don’t know about you
of course, i expect you die-hard fans would come down hard on me. but i expect nothing from you guys. what is brewing? is it coffee?
PM’s last chance to do something right (and a win-win one too) is to convene Parliament.
Either expose DSAI’s bluff or become a GENIUS-IN-DISGUISE to do the impossible (because his party would not let him) by letting DSAI fulfill his 2004 promises!
So, heads you win, tails you win!
What are you waiting for?
Read the lead story at this hour in The Malaysia Insider. Forced changes are taking place in at least three countries, Japan, South Africa and Israel. The incumbents seem to realise that it is time to go. When will our sleepy head open his eyes to reality?
Too quiet. Something is definetly brewing……….
When is RPK coming out ???? Any one with answers please respond.
My bet is…AAB will work with Anwar secretly to path the way for Anwar to be the next PM. The problem is AAB has these other options that has something sticking up his **** (pls i mean figuratively) or dagger on his back. hard choices but the odds are up his ****.
If I am AAB I can’t trust a guy with C4s.
Actually alot is happening. Again I got a call from a reliable source (a very senior public servant lah, I’m not telling anymore)), that Anwar has the numbers to replace Mr. Badawi.
Director level Senior Public servants have received a memo advising there might be :”changes in the Government”. Meanwhile Mr. Badawi might be making his own announcement very soon. Mr. Najib is on standby. Hang in there because the roller-coaster ride is just beginning!
Last - if I’m not mistaken the police issue statement that we can’t discuss this issue. I don’t know if this will attract their attention??? ISA???
Zappa,
My goodness! You are so guillible to even believe the March 8th election is fair. If it’s fair, the opposition would have won the ultimate prize, the Federal Government. Plus, you have also forgotten how many “rockblocks” set up by the present federal government to retake those 5 states. Remember Terenganu! BN cancelled oil royalty to the state once it was ruled by PAS.
Zappa,
Have you any idea how much budget those 5 Pakatan states have? The richest state is Selangor. It has only 1.3 Billion MYD per year. When year after year kenna screwed by the former BN state government incurring huge deficit with debts to the federal government. Hence, I am quite pissed off with those idoits asking Pakatan state government to do wonders when they have less than 4 Billion MYD budget for all 5 states. Plus, still need to pay the “past” debts accumulated by the previous BN government
Perhaps, I could tell the present federal government “Up yours” and withold the tax revenues collected by the Pakatan State Governments for the BN federal government. You think that’s possible? Unless all five states are like Singapore during 1963 - 1965, they can’t simply do so
Zappa,
You got my drift and the urgency of the need taking over federal government …. Especially when BN federal government would never going to be fair. So please don’t give me the bull**** of your c*** stories.
Zappa,
By the way, Singapore led by LKY then in (1963 - 1965) got so fed up, they have decided to run a collision course with Tunku’s federal government (I have always respected Tunku but he’s still a politician. Read LKY’s memoir).
The system is designed in such a way most power rested in the hands of a centralised federal government. Hence, if BN starts (which already started) to play punk, pakatan’s hands are tied if they being gentlemen. There’s always a limit. Enough is enough! Just do it by all means and take over the federal government
Muhammad Firdaus Christopher

Your mum probably fed you that tainted milk from China cos it looks like you have turd for brains. 5 states is a major victory you fool. If the election was rigged as you say it is, they would never have let selangor fall into PR’s hands. If you are playing dirty, wouldn’t it make sense to go all the way? Deny PR victory in Selangor and especially Perak where the margin of victory is slim.
PR taking over government now would be extreme stupidity. I guess that doesn’t matter when Anwar’s followers are stupid like you. How long can a government with DAP and PAS last? How can reforms be implemented when the leading players cannot agree on anything? Even with 31 defectors, it wouldn’t have a 2/3 majority so the new PR federal goverment would still be powerless to amend the constitution.
You may wish to be fooled by Anwar and his ambition to be PM at all costs. Even stupid people have rights i guess. But don’t think we’re all idiots like you.

Julius Ceasar Badawi knows that he is in a very tight corner but his real worry i which of his “trusted” ministers will be the first Brutus who will lead the back stabbing frenzy? Want ot take bets ???
Either way, he better cash out sooner before the krises are drawn.
The Diabolical Brilliance of Badawi
Many people will remember that Pak Lah was given a record mandate in his first elections as PM. He was Mr Clean and vowed to transform the dire straits of the Malaysia he inherited. The first order of business was freeing a man who was meted gross injustice under Mahathir. With Anwar out and free, Pak Lah set about loosening the shackles of the media. So far so good. But when he laid hands on the corrupt wihtin the ranks of UMNO, he met with criminal resistance! And so began his taste of the ‘brick wall’ that Zaid has alluded to. Some must surely remember Pak Lah’s lament: “I am working alone”.
I believe it was at this point that he was divinely inspired to do what he knew he must do to save the country from certain doom: Destroy the monster to save the rakyat.
And therefore ever since, every move to thwart any opposition to the government seems to be the worst move the government could have taken, some outright foolish, ill-thought, and counter productive.
There is no measure taken by the ruling elite that can be said to have benefited them - the most damaging being the use of the ISA and the cruel fuel price hike. Is it not amazing that UMNO was on self-destruct mode? Was this by design?
While the rakyat seemed to have matured with the media opening up, the internet blossoming and freedom of expression being exercised in hitherto unimagined ways - the pillow being presented to Pak Lah comes to mind - the government seemed to backtrack and become cloistered in an ever imploding sphere. Was this mere coincidence?
The highhanded manner of the police, the arrogance of the ruling elite were at a ‘no-holds-barred’ exhibition. The quotes of Maidin, Nazri, Hamid, Khir, Ahmad still sear in rememberence.
As the curtain falls on UMNO/BN, one must wonder: Was it all mere coincidence or the diabolical brilliance of one true Malaysian? I believe it is the latter, of one who is willing to go to hell for a heavenly cause!
New Malaysian
To Zappa,
Yes, if the government would have known the huge change in voters, they would not let the 5 states fell onto PR. They would have used even DIRTIER approach to divide up the regions. I have a friend with family of 5 (same address in KL), and all of them went to different voting regions; and one of them even sent to Terengganu, you think this is “NORMAL” and “FAIR”???
The situation is bad enough that I can’t consider or think much on how good it would be to be ruled by PR. I am willing to give it a chance, and just get rid of the current government, the “racits”, “corrupted” and “bias’ government. I guess people who are still supporting the current government are those benefiting from its policy, are you???
