Concerned and disturbed by the MCMC move to block The Malaysian Insider. The blocking of Sarawak Report, Asia Sentinel, Malaysian Chronicle, and earlier, the Bersih website (now lifted) was bad enough.
What was the reason for the move?
To me, this is a sign of a government afraid of its own shadows, trying to stem the flow of information to the people. It comes at a time when trust in the institutions of government and support for the government of the day is at a low ebb.
Where do they expect people to get the news from? Utusan, NST and The Star?
Aliran has responded with a statement: Blocking The Malaysian Insider is an affront to media freedom

DAP Puchong MP and lawyer Gobind Singh Deo says that before taking any action against an individual or organisation, there has to be enough evidence presented to prove the subject guilty. βIn this case, before MCMC can even find strong evidence to prove that TMI has violated the law they have decided to ban the website. βThis is not right. They should be calling in the editors for questioning but they have not done so thoroughly. βThis (banning of TMI over certain service providers) I believe is a legal question and is something that we need to develop and seek… Read more »
Don’t ban TMI, ban GST and other provisions that hurt the economy:

No Insider but transformed into Outsider ?
Banning only breeds more exposures ???
It makes people distrust mainstream media even more.
What say you, MIC, MCA and Gerakan?
Kumar, are you the so called activist calling city council to handle out of control suka show illegal parking near food centres hence causing traffic jam?
Anil
The reformist government run by deforms?
Reason for blockage?
Publishing unverified news?
The last check tmi has not lost in any defamation suits
Hey how much utusan the mouthpiece of umno lost in defamation damages for uttering lies?
Joke of year of Monkey
I think BN is trying to do to TMI what they have done to The Edge, to deny it from gaining revenue. How dispicable.
1Malaysia blockheads are unaware that blocked sites can be easily accessed by
various means. Useless chips off the regime’s Ruling Bloc of kleptocrats.
Actually many people don’t know how to get pass the blocks on their own. Those who know are in the minority. The general public need to be specifically taught or mirror sites need to be set up just for them, as in the Outsider case. I was talking to some professionals with IT background (USM graduates) 2 nights ago and they were completely clueless! Malaysia definitely offers quality education!
Block here block there BUT Mat Motor no block but can be road menace per UMNO recommendation ?
Ku Man please rember that Kapcai is not built for racing, otherwise you are sending those Mat Motor to early death.
Shame to those who still pay to read The Star and NST.
I have boycott these useless papers for 10 years.
There are many who read. One less you does not matter

BN is worried about the negative reporting on 1MDB, as it is hiding the truth from rakyat.
Mahathir and Muhyiddin must step up the pressure to expose the truth to the rural people.
Not surprising that we are in the Year of The Monkey: See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil.
The metaphor depends on which interpretation one has for Evil aimed at which side of the political divide.
More monkey business to come like see No Yellow (Bersih?), Speak No Donation, what else?
Just sign the petition, talk less please.

The sites are still getting a lot of readers. Singapore learned long ago it’s futile. So they decided to upgrade their skills to go after resident people. But UMNO cannot upgrade skill..
Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.

Don’t forget that Asia Sentinel was also blocked just before Malaysia Chronicle was blocked.
Thanks for the reminder!
