Francis Loh has written a couple of articles for Aliran that explain why Umno is more receptive to hudud and is hoping to join forces with the conservatives in Pas.
Indeed Umno-BN was shaken at the last GE after it found out that it had failed to win a majority of the popular votes. To their shock, Umno Baru discovered that many Muslims and people of other faiths had joined forces in seeking change. They had embraced New Politics based on a host of public interest issues that cut across ethnic and religious lines.
So Umno Baru has all but ditched 1Malaysia and is now appealing to more exclusivist tendencies in Malaysian society. It is trying to go back to the Old Politics i.e. using the divisive issues of race and religion – a game it knows best. Not surprisingly, it now appears to be more receptive to the conservative forces within Pas.
In the process it is trying to split the 51 per cent of Malaysians who voted for change while hoping to break up Pakatan and create a rift within Pas.
I hope the folk in Pas realise what is happening. They have to do some serious thinking to discern whether it is worth losing the hard-earned goodwill they have won in recent years.

Anil sorry for leaving such a long comment and created more work for you on a weekend. Thousand apologies
Ah Nar First of all, I would like to thank you for your generosity for allowing me to fire more salvos at you. You are nothing but just another member of a minority party. You mentioned my idol CAT. That is where the difference between you and me. I am not a member of any political party. I am not paid to write! You see politicians are a different species as they need to survive and to survive they need to thrive on issues. I will give an example of CM of Penang. He proudly announced Hudud will not be… Read more »
blah blah blah I oppose hudud say the CAT but the PAS ignored him. The PM never oppose or support and the fact is 53 years we do not have an issue of hudud and Allah. The fact is when DAP PR get more seats together with PAS, hudud now become an issue. Whoever stand in whichever place is not an issue. Ask the CAT to stand in Pekan or in a 90% Malay seat before you ask the PM to stand in Air Putih. And I wonder who is pushinh who to stop hudud. Another lie from you. DAP… Read more »
Ask yourself why Umno is collaborating with PAS in hudud joint technical committee and not reject hudud upfront? I think MCA also has no answee to this.
Pakatan to break up soon? http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/opinion/2014/05/10/pakatan-to-break-up-soon/ Whatever is said up till this point in time, it must be noted that DAP and PKR both knew of PAS Islamic struggle even before PR was formed in April 2008. Francis Loh is a twister as everyone know it is all along a PAS initiative and now he is trying to pin the blame on BN UMNO DAP knew all along that PAS has always wanted hudud and yet continue to co-operate with them. Will DAP kowtow to PAS!!!! Lets see ??? At this point in time, MCA is still pushing DAP to… Read more »
MCA chicken out and dare not contest in Bkt Gelugor to safeguard its ‘reputation’ with the excuse of focusing on hudud? Does that mean that the entire MCA red-army machinery is on anti-hudud overdrive? ISMA better be afraid?
Meanwhile not sure if Gerakan’s Mah Siew Keong dare to take on Superman Hew at Teluk Intan. He may use the same MCA excuse?
Last nite TV3 8pm buleti merely mentioned MCA tak tanding Bkt Gelugor, but no mention its reason of focusing on anti-hudud drive. Another proof that TV3 being Umno mouthpiece is actually support hudud?
Without you, I do not exist. Yes Mong you are very right
And without PAS DAP will fade away
Ah Nar After a hard day works, you are definitely my guiness stout! Like father, like son. Like master, like servant. You are definitely a TWISTER. Wow! You do really know how to twist words to your whims and fancies! Anyway, you seems to have just came out from the NST accademy half baked. Didn’t I tell you? The words just flow so smoothly. More to come. When readerships drops, free copies will be dropped. I do take the free copies. Don’t misunderstand. I don’t read trash. I uses trash to wrap my rubbish. Talking about trash, Ah Nar I… Read more »
Mong : Again you could not rebut my comment and name calling is the best you can do. Just like another one of your kind that cannot retort but name calling all as bodoh. Yes everything just come out from your mouth without thinking. Why ?? No brain I guess. How stupid you look. The more salvo you fire the more you look stupid. I ask you this question. Your idol CAT say he oppose hudud but continue to sleep with them (PAS). And you know what, after sleeping with his partner, PAS tell him I am still not satisfied,… Read more »
All these huhas about hudud will come to nothing at the end, after all Umno has almost 6 decades to implement hudud in Malaysia and Pas has been advocating hudud for as long as they have in existence. Yet nothing, I repeat nothing happens and again nothing will take place this time round, it is just a political move to gain muslims’ support for their stand. But at the same time it will loose the support of the non muslim Malaysians especially all their lackey ‘partners’ in Barisan. That is why MCA in particular are objecting to hudud being introduced… Read more »
Nah! MCA and Gerakan tried to play tricks with non melayus as they did in 1999. The question is……Would they succeed? One must remember plenty people like Yongs and Ananars around. Hahahaha!
Nothing personal. Just having fun lambasting someone just like you did commenting on Karpal Singh’s death.
When you have fun lambasting me for commenitng on Karpal, it again show how much respect you have for Karpal. Even though I may not shared the view of Karpal but I respected him as a lawyer and MP. You are indeed doing a great diservice and dishonorable act to Karpal by using my comment of him just for fun.
Ah Nar You made my day . I don’t have to try. With fools like you, what I have written just came naturally. It just flow. Maybe I have always been natural . You can comment but do your homework first. A fool opens his mouth wide only to be choked by a fly. Nothing personal. Just having fun lambasting someone just like you did commenting on Karpal Singh’s death.
Mong ; You could not rebut me but your action of opposing hudud and supporting DAP that oppose hudud that continue to co-operate and sleep with the party PAS that want to implement hudud, it demonstrate that you are indeed a bigger fool. Or has PAS made you both bigger fools.
An idiot come here for fun, I come here with serious intent to do and talk what is right or wrong, what is good or bad for the people, country and community. I won`t be a blind fool hardy commentator like you using this blog for his fun.
Yang and Ah Nar seems to be reading only the mainstream media and got all their facts wrong again. As i have emphasised in my previous opinion, if you have nothing to write then don’t write. But I think that is the charateristic of someone who lack intelligence. A fool by any other name whether Yang, Ah Nar or Gerakan K will remain a fool! I just voted again against such fools. Talking about MCA my foot. A party always involved in fighting for position and power at the Chinese expense. What did the Chinese gains? Remember KOJADI back in… Read more »
Mong, You could not rebut my comment except to make silly personal remark. Try again
Anil I don’t think it is fair to blame it on PAS. They have been consistent all along in advocating hudud. Likewise, DAP has been consistent in opposing it. The two decided to join forces and so they should keep their controversial opinions to themselves instead of airing it out in public and causing a fight. To the non-muslims and to DAP, hudud may appear barbaric and unjust but to many muslims and PAS, it is a good and just law. It is a difference in opinion. Some people are for the death penalty, some oppose it. Similarly, the Catholics… Read more »
Guan Eng told to get house in order over hudud
http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/2014/05/08/guan-eng-told-to-get-house-in-order-over-hudud/
Before DAP LGE keep talking of opposing hudud, they must get their house in order and have the gut to rein in their partner PAS. It seem he just do not have that guts.
The DAP state government must pressure the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Council (MAINPP) to withdraw its support for hudud implementation otherwise whatever talk of opposing hudud are all bluff
When the Selangor JAIS confiscated the bible, PR DAP blame the Federal govt BN UMNO MCA & Gerakan while PKR and PAS keep quiet. When the Allah issue came up, again DAP blame UMNO MCA Gerakan while PAS & PKR Anwar keep quiet and the Penang DAP state govt. meanwhile approved enactment 35 that prohibit non Muslim from using Allah and 30 over words. PAS wanted to implement hudud and Anwar PKR said as a Muslim he does not oppose hudud, Yet again DAP blame BN UMNO, MCA, Gerakan and the coalition. While DAP continue to say they oppose hudud… Read more »
EVERYONE KNOWS – EVEN PAS KNOWS the idea is to split PR. The problem is PAS, all the way up to the highest body, believes that when it comes to “divine duty”, not even logic comes into play much less political calculation – and UMNO knows that. For PAS its the very definition of “Faith” – don’t have to use your brains too hard..
The real reason for the Umno schmucks to consider the introduction of hudud now is just to win the support of the muslims. They have almost six decades to do so but why only now ? One thing for sure is that these Umno schmucks would be the first to impede hudud being introduced in Malaysia. With the introduction of hudud (many of) these Umno schmucks will not have any limbs left hanging onto their bodies or they might have being stoned to death ! Therefore it would be save to say the country might be better off with hudud… Read more »
GST is a wrong prescription to our ailing nation when many are still very poor as 7 million are still dependent on BR1M. So what you get in BR1M could evaporated with your GST payment. As for hudud, it is against our constitution and Umno has yet to reject it outright. Very likely Umno will embrace it as Malays dare not say no to anything Islam, and it is the only way for Umno to woo PAS in Oder to get more votes. So it is important for MCA, MIC and Gerakan to guard the gate of BN against hudud,… Read more »
Once PAS has been used, UMNO s… PAS folks left right centre. Enough this nonsense, time to wake up these (Malays) to support DAP instead. Just like singapore malays did with PAP
Most Malays are likely to follow the Friday sermon as scripted by Jakim/Umno.
Most Malays dare not openly say no to hudud, as they are afraid to be labelled kafir.
Most Malays in Malaysia dare to question the authority when Islam is ambiguously interpreted to suit political agenda. Umno has been taking advantage of this. About time for educated Malays to speak out. We need more Malays like Adam Adli.
Umno is desperate and will join force with PAS on hudud to stay in power. MCA should know but they are desperate for cabinet positions.
I think it is PAS who are desperate. Remember in the past, PAS was in BN and there was no issue of hudud because UMNO and the other coalition partner did not agree. After PAS joined Pakatan it make demand because it knew DAP is weak and need them for Putrajaya. Once PAS leave Pakatan, DAP LGE can kiss goodbye to Putrajaya, it can also kiss goodbye to Penang and Selangor. That is why their opposing of hudud is just sandiwara
Good to see Anil’s finally talks about the controversial hudud issue, as many of us have since lost interest in the MH370 case due to heavy cover up by Hisham and co, latest being the edited cockpit conversation. If BN is claiming itself to be a nation of moderate Islam, Hadhari or not, then why Najib dare not openly oppose hudud in a firm manner? Can hudud co exist with his 1malaysia vision? How to implement hudud when (many) Malay Muslims do not pray five times a day? This is evident when I see so many Malays merrily eating away… Read more »
BN & UMNO has never officially said that they wanted hudud implemented. Is the isolated case of some misguided UMNO MP that said nonsense. As such the issue of MCA sandiwara does not exist
Its PAS that have officially implemented hudud and they have done it in Kelantan. DAP keep saying they oppose hudud but continue to co-operate and sleep with PAS. Is this not sandiwara ???
Too bad we now are seeing the Return of Shenanigans of Racial Splits + Religious Contentions. Too bad the resurrection of Helang Island Doctor of Racism preachings comes at a time of need for unity. Too bad fear, mistrust & throwing away of common sense to the winds fanned by religious bigotry. In the midst, there are those opportunists who believe in the cucuk-boiling of others’ passions in things close to the hearts of godliness. But the fact that these purveyors of broad daylight sins such as corruptions, murders, race divisions & hatred, & lies can come so close to… Read more »
Yes, umno cant wait to join forces with Pas to destroy pakatan and to gain back the malay’s votes. Hence, umno is very receptive to the implementation of hudud for their own survival actually. Some leaders in Pas are very simple minded thinking that umno is sincere in embracing hudud ??? Looks like this tanah air ku, malaysia is destined to be doomed ??? Wonder Anil is regretting now coming back to malaysia why not staying put in the UK? My family is planning to go elsewhere as we cant stand the 47% bodoh bodoh, if they want and willingly… Read more »
No regrets coming home, Kee (though sometimes it gets depressing). This is our tanah air. We have to do our bit to make it a better place. If critics leave, then the coast is clear for the plunderers to loot the country.
Btw, thanks for sending in the book.
No mention, Anil, you are most welcome !
“Tanah Air Cinta Ku” is the prerogative of all Malaysians, not reserved for the self-appointed prince-of-the-earth privileged (for life). Yes, each of us has a life choice, to stick around & do something or to ‘cabut’ for better place / future. A choice for self + family or for self + country. Nelson Mandela would have no tinge of regrets to stick around in South Africa just for a worthy socio-political cause, so was RIP Mr Karpal Singh, who could have easily migrated to less ‘contentious’ countries & earn handsomely without being put to jail. Ask yourself, why are you… Read more »
Then UMNO destroyed PAS just as it did in the 70s. This video clip sounds familiar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZdssVmgDJM
And also the problems with PAS trying to be God and Anil will tell you passages of scriptures what happen to people trying to be God
PAS will again be manipulated and played out by Umno.
Some leaders in Pas are very simple minded thinking that umno is sincere in embracing hudud ??? Now its finally dawn on us that PAS is really for hudud and BN UMNO is not. Look like the smart have no confidence in fighting for their cause. They don`t even realize that even if they migrate to the US or any Western country, they will still face the same racial discrimination. Why the Asian are able to withstand all these discrimination and be successful is because they are hardworking and is able to interact with the community just like in this… Read more »
Hudud is a slap to our nation’s claim to be a moderate Islam state.
What is next? We may end up like Boko Haram that hijacks Islam?
About time for moderate Malays to stand up, and not be afraid.
The Economist tells Putrajaya to drop Islamist card if BN want to be a real democracy:
http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/drop-the-islamist-card-if-you-want-to-be-a-real-democracy-economist-tells-p
Malaysians who emigrate can continue to bring about change. How? 1. Speak up even more boldly since you are residing in free countries such as Australia, New Zealand, UK, etc For example, like Dr Bakri Musa in the USA. 2. With your stronger foreign currencies, your financial contributions to progressive Malaysian political parties and NGOs are MAGNIFIED! 3. You can contribute in terms of foreign investment in Malaysia, using your technical skills etc 4. You can return to vote, like the Singapore-based Malaysians who came home and voted in the GE13 in Johor, giving political backeyes to the UMNO Baru-BN… Read more »
Good points, Kai Lit!
One thing is for sure, PAS, PKR & DAP are never sincere.
PAS wanted an Islamic state and hudud. PKR wanted Anwar become PM so he can get free from all the entangle he is in. DAP wanted to win GE at all cost even though they knew that PAS had intended to have hudud all long
PAS hudud have been contained for so long by the BN UMNO MIC MCA Gerakan and others.
DAP & PKR break open that pandora box for PAS
Ask yourself first if Umno is sincere?
UMNO has never been sincere but PAS mullahs are indeed stupids. Once beaten twice shy thriceHOP TO DIE LA. Just like the muslim brotherhood. No eye see. Seriously pure stupidity.
PAS,
You can go to hell alone……Please
Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (ISMA) wants hudud for non-Muslims as well.
http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/262315
Highly likely that ISMA is an outsourced agent for Umno?
ISMA = Ingin Sangat Membuat Angkara?
PAS knew that Hudud is the natural progression in the Islamic card that is now being played by Umno: Kalimah Allah, Sunni vs Shia, religious conversion by Syariah, constant calls by its ring wing partners Perkasa and Isma… So it has been initiated by Umno and PAS has no choice but to use the hudud card to ‘redeem’ its reputation, without realising it is a trap by Umno to break up Pakatan.
So MCA should tackle the source of the problem. Just get Najib to openly reject hudud. But MCA cannot do so because it is eyeing cabinet positions.
The ball is now on Umno’s court since Muhyideen has initiated the ‘Hudud Technical Committee’ and PAS is awaiting Umno’s response.
