Now can we get on with more important business? That seemed to be the general reaction of many upon learning that the cabinet has allowed the whisky maker to continue using the name Timah for their product.
Yes, Timah just means tin ore, as anyone could have told the bigots that. And no, Timah is not short for the name of the Prophet’s daughter, Fatimah.
It is amazing what a couple of state elections – in Malacca and Sarawak – and a looming general election can do to get rid of this non-issue. After all, how wa the government going to explain this ridiculous controversy to voters? Full article on the Aliran website

New storm: RM100 million housing/land for Bossku as pension.

Since a whole article is written on this Asian whisky. Lets talk. How long have this producers of the alcohol drink been staying here. Why did they not use an English name for it. Why use a Malay name. Don’t they know Malays equates to Muslims which equates to Islam. Under the Islamic religion alcohol is prohibited. Worse still, why chose a name that seem to resemble one of their religious personalities. You are producing alcohol in a land where Islam is the official religion. You could have given due diligence to finding a name for a Malaysian produced alcohol drink that does not… Read more »
Why use a Malay name?
Probably in line with changing Mat Salleh road name of colonial days to Malay name.
They have chosen some places or maybe certain places to change the names but not all places. Georgetown is still Georgetown and Butterworth is still Butterworth in name. Are you wishing for a (in line) change of names, Yolo ?
So, why is the municipal authority of Georgetown called MP Pulau Pinang?
George Town and Butterworth are not road name. Take a small sip of Timah, not togok tuak.
Duly noted. Thank you. Sorry about that. Must have been really tipsy from drinking all that tuak. Lets refresh. We have Green Lane, Scotland Road, Hutton Lane, Gurney Drive, Beach Street, Bishop Street, Light Street just to name a few. Don’t see here any in line change of colonial mat salleh road names to malay names.
Green Lane -> Jalan Masjid Negeri,
Pitt Street -> Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling,
Northam Road -> Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.
See now?
Uncle Wyatt for better health don’t drink liquor.
Go have coffee at Toh Soon cafe off Campbell St with Shriek , tunglang and Anil with roti bakar then have Murtabak at Hameediyah then write your experience here.
Currently, if a coffee shop wants to put up a signboard, they have to apply for a license, that’s one. Then, another license (is required) to sell cigarettes and another one to sell alcoholic drinks.
“How many licenses does a coffee shop need? Why is it that during a time when the people are struggling due to the rising prices of goods, the government decides to add more bureaucracy and costs which eventually will burden the people?
MALAY HYPOCRITE NAZRI, WANTS WESTERN NAMES FOR BUILDING & PLACES REPLACED BY MALAY NAMES, BUT NAMED HIS SON JEAN-PIERRE AZIZE.

If the idea was to give it an Asian look and feel , there are a whole lot of Asian countries from whose language they could have chosen a name . After all, all they needed was a single word or if Tin was what they needed to use, they could have chosen it from any one of those languages and the personalities too.
Notice, have not used any Malay words for the suggestions. Not sure how it might get interpreted. So, its best to leave it out of the picture, especially for those
‘sensitive’ products. Cheers boys.

Some want us to adopt parts of their culture, including language – but only where convenient to them.
4 Ekor is a sin.
4 Bini is a blessing.
Some may find it appealing to adopt.

Are you reminiscing RTM of the 70s when the only Chinese singing on TV is Andre Goh singing Dondang Sayang?
New storm at coffee shops…

Whisky is a white mans drink. There are so many words in English that they could have chosen. There were so many Brit’s here since the 1800. They could have easily chosen a name from any one of them. Gurney’s whisky is a nice name. He was a Brit who died here, a soldier too. Could have used his picture. Why choose a picture of a guy with a name like Speedy. The name reminds me of Speedy Gonzales, you know the cartoon character, the little Mexican mouse.

Introducing, the one and only …….. give a big clap, boys.
Iiiiiiiits, Speedy Gonzales.

Clue : Uncle Wyatt is born in the year Speedy Gonzales mafe his debut in 1955???
The real fuss is the low quality of MPs, not the whiskey.

Timah issue was flared up by Amanah + PKR duo (DAP allies). Everyone is trying to out-Malay the other. PAS did something they are supposed to do, banning anything un-Islamic (4d toto). Shriek, what’s the fuss? You are talking non-sense all day while the party you are supporting did absolutely zero for you. How is that winning? If the Chinese were to support BN in the last election, I can hundred percent guarantee that PAS would not even be in the cabinet. It is okay, I thank Shriek for helping to speed up the Islamisation of Malaysia. You did more… Read more »
Shang-Chi may have 10 rings, but Malaysia has 4 destructive elements as described in this article:
https://www.malaysia-chronicle.com/?p=212119
Sad but true.
Reported many young Msians to seek fresher pastures overseas.
Msia in great debt with most with little EPF savings.
Losing out to Vietnam and Indonesia now after trailing far behind Spore.
Timah Whiskey received awards globally but locally a silly controversial matter.
https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/leisure/2021/11/14/after-texas-win-malaysian-lyia-meta-sways-hollywood/
Lyia Meta a Melaka singer has achieved global recognition but we do not get to see her singing in local TV.
Lim Guan Eng said MCA, GPS and MIC ministers have to explain whether banning 4D gambling shops and alcohol sales to non-Muslims is the new policy under Keluarga Malaysia.
https://www.themalaysianinsight.com/s/351066
To be consistent, PAS should ban smoking and sale of cigarettes as well?
I recall that the relevant religious council declared smoking forbidden, maybe a decade ago. Everyone is very quiet on that.
Everyone here refers to PASS? A decade ago? Is a century ago in 20 century Fox. Nor 21st century
Fox now owned by Disney. PASS may concern Disney+ shows on Astro may have LGBT elements, prompting more to follow Nur Sajat to seek refuge down under?
https://screenrant.com/disney-lgbt-characters-movies-tv-shows/amp/
PASS should be concerned that Marvel superheroes movies or series may have LGBT elements:

Now you know why they want control on TV box.
glissantia, Reply to Wyatt / 18 Nov 2021 1.11pm hello glissantia, go and do a bit of research yourself and that goes for Yolo too. Find out for yourselves, the reasons for why this is or that are. Go ask your MPs and your state assemblymen/women, one Chief Minister and two deputies. All these people are fully paid by salary from the tax you pay. They should be able to help you with some answers. They are in the business of Government management. If you find them having no idea why such changes have taken place or they are way busy and have… Read more »
yolo, Reply to Wyatt / 18 Nov 2021 9.05am Hello Yolo , as said earlier, in some places the road names has been changed and in some places it has not. There must be some proper reason for it, don’t see there being any issue with it, as long as a name is given to identify the street. So, when Yolo says, “in line with changing Mat Salleh road name of colonial days to Malay name”, it gives the impression that there is some kind of street name change policy in place to change these colonial names. Is there such a policy, Yolo ?… Read more »
When Jalan Semangat is renamed Jalan Prof Khoo Kay Kim, can you recall and ask why? Localized? Recognition of local? Anyway, lots of things happen in Bolehland without any form of policy, this is called consistency of inconsistance, some call it roti canai flip flopping. Timah is local whisky, just like Ramli the local burger, faham?
Hello Yolo, your last sentence tells me that if I were to continue saying anything more on this, It will be my foolishness. So, good luck to you, Yolo.
Tunglung is a good man. he is a caring and concern person. Unfortunately, in a moment of weakness (anger), he laid accusation on the blogmaster and did a ‘Seppuku’ right here on this blog by asking all his past, present comments and his name n history to be completely removed. He will loose face if he comes back now. He knows that. Of course, he can always come in anonymously with another alias but Tunglang is too dignified a person to do that. So, stop all the crying n whining and let the good man rest in peace. One can… Read more »
Just a clarification. Tunglang just wanted his comments for the previous month or two – mostly touching on geopolitics – since his return to be removed. His many earlier nostalgic comments on Penang are still untouched.
A moment of weakness (anger) can be subdued by humility. Anil has opened his arms for his return. Tunglang’s wisdom can overcome dignity matter easily. PTL (Praise The Lord).
Tunglang’s return will be welcome and will prove Wyatt (Gerakan K now becomes Gerakan W) wrong, and counter the Double Trouble of W&S tag team. Tunglang’s knowledge of Old Penang is educational to young readers.
After days of hard work, people in the west want to wind down and they think alcohol is the answer and so they choose a bottle of hard whisky. Hence, this song –
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvoW9VOxnwI .
And if the manufacturer still feel that it must reflect Malaysia made, just call it “MY WHISKY”. Now, lets just wind down listen to this whisky blues while smoking a cigar or two.

Still prefer the old days of Guinness Stout is Good for You:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=SkaWYp-UTKk&feature=youtu.be
So much of black money going on and giving of $$$ during election, PASS even dont say a word or take action.
Anil any comments on LGE tunnel case? That should be of public interest.
Probably better not to comment about an ongoing case.
Teh Susu still want to move to PASS land? Now Peng land can expect more Ke dah tour ists on Fridays and Saturdays. Peng land can build border towns along the S.Muda so Ke dah ans can swim, drive and boat across for 1,2,3 and 4 Ds and yam seng Timah.
PASS dare to ban liquor in Langkawi land of overpriced Siakap?
Sanusi no comment on banning duty free liquor there? Else he cannot masuk syurga?
Smoking not mudarat?
Should have Timah commentary while the issue is hot. Hot issue now is Melaka issue.
Should keep in phase. Not lagging in phase.
Else talking about things past expiry date, just to play safe?
