TI president’s pointed questions put Najib under global scrutiny

Transparency International president Jose Ugaz hammers home two key questions arising from the RM2.6bn ‘donation’ into Najib’s personal bank account: “Who paid the money and why? Where did it go?”

He raised those quetions at the International Anti-Corruption Conference. “One man could answer those questions,” says Ugaz.

Notice the delegates’ applause punctuating his speech.

“If that does not happen, then only a fully independent investigation, free from political interference, can uncover the truth. And till that happens no claim from the government or anti-corruption would be credible.”

Najib failed to show up and deliver the key-note address. To many, the reason for the no-show was obvious.

When will we have that “fully independent investigation, free from political interference”, which Ugaz demands?

Until that happens, Najib’s position as premier remains untenable. He has to go on leave pending investigations.

Transparency International vice-president Elena Panfilova today said DPM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be held to account for his pledge that there will be no impunity with regard to corruption cases in the country.

Zahid Hamidi then tried to demonstrate his anti-corruption stand by suggesting that the law enforcement agencies are corrupted and contributed to human trafficking incident of the sinking ship at Sabak Bernam?

As we speak, the President of Guatemala has resigned in disgrace and not only that, the judge has ordered for his detention in jail while he awaits trial for alleged corruption (you can “Google” it in the world news). Didn’t the head of Transparency International mentioned that President in his speech at the IACC event a few days ago? It would not surprise me that some of these influential men/women at Transparency International may have a hand in getting the allegedly corrupted Guatemalan politician to come down , as they probably have the “ears” of very powerful heads of states… Read more »

Tiang, they found their action has boomerang back proving they are also one and the.same

If PM is not guilty, he would have come out earlier with evidence that he is clean. For a person who is so hungry for good publicity, he would have a grand media blitz on his innocence. The way and manner the UMNO ministers, lackeys, sycophants and Najib’s minions responded on the issue of the massive corruption involving Najib and others, it seems like corruption is very normal and very acceptable within UMNO. To these folks, it does not matter at all when Najib used 1MDB as a vehicle to siphon huge amount of money for himself and his cronies… Read more »

Describing it as a “national shame and embarrassment”, Rafidah said the observations and comments made at the conference were the “culmination of what the majority of the people have been saying”. “Now, in a global conference focussing on corruption, our own leaders are being questioned … because of the very issues that we, the majority of Malaysians are asking answers for. “Malaysia is now witnessing the unthinkable happening, that is causing the erosion of the very confidence of others in us,” she said in a Facebook post on Friday. “But we cannot dismiss those observations and comments. Honestly, the TI president should have asked WHERE IS HADI AND PAS IN ALL OF THIS??? If not for Hadi & PAS Ulama, Najib would have already fallen.. The TI President should have asked, why is it this supposedly great religion “a way of life” ignore such glaring things that affects people’s everyday lives?

Najib was listed as speaker of the keynote address at the IACC. Following Najib’s pullout, would he from now on avoid all international conferences unless they were held in a third world country or he could be assured that no hard questions would be asked? Maybe he should stick to Soal Jawab on TV3 to speak with prepared text and answers?

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians must not mistake Mahathir Mohamad for a believer in reform despite his current “populist slant,” an article in the international current affairs magazine The Diplomat has warned. Written by Joyce Lee, a master’s student at the London School of Economics, the article is partly a comment on media coverage of the former prime minister’s appearance at last weekend’s Bersih rally in Kuala Lumpur, especially opinion pieces appearing in the days that followed. Lee says the coverage “has missed the context of Mahathir’s full 22 years in office” and, “more crucially, it has overlooked the implications of his… Read more »

Maybe I should copyright it first?
Then Utusex Malaysia can offer to give me a “donation”,
say RM1 million, before using it?

P.S. I will then have the great pleasure of turning down the offer of the “donation”
and showing that cash is not always king.
But on second thought, I should donate the “donation”
to Bersih so that they can “bersihkan”/clean/ launder it and use it to
organise more patriotic activities for concerned Malaysians
(after all, the “donations” are from hard-earned tax payer $$$) 🙂

“The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has frozen assets amounting to several tens of millions of U.S. dollars on Swiss bank accounts,” an OAG spokeswoman said by email in response to an enquiry.

“At this early stage of the procedure, the OAG is analysing and consolidating evidence. The OAG is already in contact with the Malaysian authorities. International cooperation with foreign countries, in particular with Malaysia, will probably be necessary to establish the facts,” she said.

Look like its another twist and turn by 2 goons. Karma or God. Ting Tung Tiang from 1 PM to another former PM. Now what do you get. Same feather or even worse.

One PM come with allegations and a former PM with truth of 22 years of corruption, cronyism and subversion of every check and balance (in his administration)..

Najib was a cabinet member during the rein of Dr. Mahathir during which widespread corruption, cronyism and subversion allegedly took place; meaning that he is either complicit to all the misdemeanors or he was a nincompoop sleeping on his job. Even if he were the latter, he as the current PM can still initiate necessary actions against the former PM for his past actions. But why he has not done so is everybody’s guess.
