Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase 2 EIA report on display – but few aware

The Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase 2 EIA report is on public display at Level 4 of Komtar until 21 February – but response to view the three volumes has been poor.

The process appears to be just going through the motions. One concerned Penangite who viewed the volumes said the previous person to view them had come a week earlier!

Thanks to the concerned Penangite who sent in these images, which give us a flavour of what is in those volumes.

The volumes contain, among other things, the questions raised by the public at an earlier consultation session and the replies given by the developer. Interestingly, one response confirmed the land would be classified as leasehold land.

A question raised by an environmentalist at that session remains highly relevant: if the assumptions and methodology made in the detailed EIA are incorrect or flawed, who pays for the resulting damage caused (e.g. by siltation)?

I see no problem when debating / exchange views with facts which Yang has done it very well. The point is don’t be a blind supporter. Giving credit when it’s due. Personally I think MB Selangor TS Khalid has performed very well so far. But the thing is not going to be the same for Selangor when Anwar is there very soon. Mark my word.

Rich Daddy. Do you know that St. Nicholas’ Homes for the blind is a nice place to stay?
I wonder if the institution will accept politically blinded minions?

Many thanks henson, i got it now. Am real slow. Yang got angry because his apartment got stuck and tunglang too much indulgence in the street food and too “intoxicated” with the kopi o kau kau and let the chance of acquiring a reasonable piece of property slipped by… So, anger and frustration on Lim Guan Eng!!! Tak patut la macam tu, brothers. I am sure Pakatan govt welcomes constructive criticism but not spewing venom in almost every comment, and cakap bukan bukan, one will not earn respect for that la. Yes, i agree with Batu Ferringhian, Anil, maybe you… Read more »

The issue is here is that most Penangites do not want this Phase 2 to happen as the environmental/ecological impact will be tremendously bad. Many industries namely fishing will be affected and this is something that we need to focus on. It has nothing to do with the Lims.

ABU tetap ABU tapi rakyat Pulau Pinang perlu bangkit dan menolak cadangan untuk membenarkan Phase 2 memburukkan lagi keadaan Persiaran Gurney. Usahlah kita, mempersalahkan pihak kerajaan negeri. Tiada gunanya.

wow This is the PM Najib is, a caring govt and PM unlike the LGE Penang state govt that offer you 72k houses but you have to pay from 154k – 200k over. Worse still you have to pay RM500 extra for every floor higher. My goodness, this is what DAP and LGE call helping the people. I believed Kee will still find a way to defend his tokong no matter what just like Ma Lai means horse coming and not Malay.

Dear tunglang and Rich daddy When everyone feared ISA, masuk lockup, the father and son (Lims) and others risked their lives for the Malaysians, for you and me. If you read Kit Siang’s i think it is his latest book, cant remember the name of the book, it was so sad. The Lim’s family has sacrificed so much for Malaysia. If i were them, i would have since long time ago packed and migrated elsewhere… Can you imagine they have to endure all the kangkong kangkong in the parliament … The problems with you guys are you expect a perfect… Read more »

Kee, you still don’t get it in your intelligent brain. Speaking for myself, I won’t keep my balanced opinion in locket if & when my judgement tells me something is wrong. Not even if that person or system or party is thought to be ‘perfect’ in the eyes of the ‘beholden’ (which means owing thanks or having a duty to someone in return for help or a service). I voted not to be subservient but to be served. There will be times of conflict of opinions & voices must be heard for a chance to correct things. Correct things, not… Read more »

Dear Kee
Many blame DAP in Penang because they dont benefit so far like got stuck with unsold properties (money tree suddenlu uprooted) or that in the past they fancy too much street food indulgence and hence didnt save up to buy much cheaper property (hence now envy people who reap benefits when prices soar while they cannot afford to buy present homes for themselves/children).
Politics are cruel. When we exercise our sacred vote, i agree with you we go for lesser evil.

hello, henson. What have you done for Penang?
At least I promote Penang Ori-Maestros & their heavenly street hawker cuisine (for free).
Btw, your assumption is off target. I already starting paying for my first home loan since my 1st job. Now I don’t have to worry over about a roof over my head. And I am not greedy to speculate on a basic need at others’ expense.
Drink more Kopi-O kau kau & get creative than assuming the unreal.

My Dear Tunglang
Good that you are unlike those who still dont have a roof over head and complaint a lot; and I never mention names so those who feel it may be rightfully in that category ?

Penang no need my promo. Too much promo helps to drive hawkers food up. fyi char kway teow at Lor Selamat now starts from RM8.50 and with “liao” over RM10. So better keep heavenly salivating food to myself as the ori-maestro starts charging high even after Chap Go Meh !

Too much promo helps to drive hawkers food up.

Then don’t eat lah! Learn from the Bangla how to cook in the bedroom.
Cosmopolitan Penang, no complain. Hawker food price hike, complain.
Fyi, hawker food prices increase due to supply & demand brought about by Cosmopolitan Frenzy & partly by worldwide fame.
Unless state gomen also want to control Ori-Maestro businesses like the 400K housing rules.

The EIA is flawed..

So is the 72k LMC apartment that is being sold at an extra 82k. Surely this is not LMC. …

Exactly Logan, Pg people were in deep slumber for the past almost 2 decades under Dr Koh. Why ??? No internet ??? What excuse !!!

If they were as awake then like now, then today we wont have leakage pipes and hence no sewege in the beaches of batu ferringhi… and also, there wont be reclaimed land in Gurney Drive !!!

Penangites in the 80s – 90s didn’t / dare to have a public voice ‘cos there’s the ISA & MadHatterism regime to ‘shut’ your mouths. Fear of being thrown in jail was no excuse unless one has no iota of experience in Kemunting. Cakap dengan nafas panas senang je. Today, Penangites have the courage & voice (tis’ different from ‘No Money, No Talk’ Syndrome) to speak up, thanks to the internet, blogs (like anilnetto.com & FMT) & Penang Free Wifi (thanks to Jeff Ooi). This shows there are still evident dissatisfactions (of some developments) of the present state administration as… Read more »

If there is ever any EIA done in the past, there should not be s… water being discharged to the beach of Penang, right?

The display after Komtar should move on to Gurney Plaza/Paragon, Queenbay Mall, BJ Komplex, Straits Quay, Times Square to set the motion going so that the general folks can realize the spillover impacts (positive?) can help them to counter traffic and high cost livings. Also ardent photographers besides snapping street foods can capture the essence for all to cheer about ……..

Lilian Chan of Buletin Mutiara ought to cover this “magnificent” event to create awareness among the public in Penang and beyond. Otherwise CAT priciple not properly deployed and in future more will seek wider and faster coverage like what anilnetto.com has been providing.

Driving along Jalan Kelawei near Gurney Plaza is like driving alongside the ‘kia su’ wildebeests in the highly congested Serengeti of Africa. Imagine the same scenario of much more wider traffic encompassing Jalan Burma, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Jalan Pangkor & Jalan Kelawei while in a tunnel vision by digging a hole in the sands of Gurney Drive rock strewn beach. No, this is not an ostrich hole of the wasted 90s. I read there will be more tunnelling in the island. Metaphorically speaking, are we digging ourselves an environmental disaster grave hole? Frankly, without a Local Plan to show,… Read more »

One question raised by an environmentalist at that session remains highly relevant: if the assumptions made in the detailed EIA are incorrect or flawed, who pays for the resulting damage caused (e.g. by siltation)? Who pays??? No answer means Penangites pay. Now, should we the silent (no money, no talk with power) or unaware majority, some of whom really don’t understand the technical cause & effect of environmental repercussions such as the Coast-Mud-Politan of Gurney Drive ‘go thro’ the silent motion’ of 80/20 Principle of Penang Cosmopolitan Frenzies? Fyi, the 80/20 Principle means 80% done deal, 20% skinning the CAT… Read more »
