Visibility has been reduced to 1.0 – 1.5km in the Samarahan area, according to a contact in Sarawak.
He suspects the cause to be open burning in surrounding areas.
The Department of Environment’s website shows a reading of 105 (unhealthy) for Samarahan at 5.00pm today.

Mr.Anil…how does the so called intellectual FT minister is going to asses the losses due to haze? whom they r going to sue? Does rocky can smell this????
Sarawak has it all at the moment, thanks to our disrespect to the environment and the tropical rain forests, which we can only sing about now. While Sibu floods all too often, the State is having temperatures in the mid-30s with dry hot winds, drought in several divisions (implications for crops?), haze reaching unhealthy levels on top of a flu panic. The A&E of Sarawak general hospital and polyclinics in Kuching are facing record attendances, stretching resources to the limit. … It is dangerous to the community to have so many adverse factors all at the same time. Teoh : In Klang, they are burning openly everywhere! Along kesas Highway to the stretch till banting.. No one realise it coz theres no money making opportunity there i guess!
The haze in Bandar Botanic Klang also covered with Haze, phone bill calling Jabatan Alam Sekitar has reached to the peak and the answer is beyond “Unreasonable”, No one is working for the government or the people, they only work for … $$$$.
No action when Penan villages got no food to makan. No action when big … companies … raped the sarawak forest.
And nearer home, water supply to tourist zone Batu Ferringhi was disrupted for 6 hours from 5pm to 11pm tonight. Water authority hotline claimed they will restore the supply tonight but do not know what was the cause of the disruption… thats really funny.
At least the Haze was kind enough to delay its annual appearance until after the Rainforest World Music Festival…
Dr. George Chan, head of the state’s disaster management will now have his hands full with H1N1 and the Haze.
Anyone knows if the CM’s is planning to take a trip overseas soon to visit perhaps his dentist or …..?
Clearing the forest for planting has been practiced by the natives of Borneo for ages. Haze only started to become a problem after companies greed for clearing land cheaply for oil palm started.
Why people like to blame Indonesia? We in Sarawak burnt the forrest for oil palm plantation! Further more, no REAL figure will be publish…scared that tourists won’t visit Sarawak.
Indonesia … has been doing this for past 12 years and … we can do anything about the haze.
Well, it could also be from local open burning. – Anil
