This is that controversial BFM Radio interview with Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
And this is another BFM radio interview with Penang Forum’s Khoo Salma Nasution and Professor Rajah Rasiah:
What is that RM70bn figure all about – or maybe more? I thought the exorbitant infrastructure cost would be RM46bn….
Anyway, there are better, cheaper, faster alternatives out there. For a start, why is taking so long to upgrade the ferries and improve the last-mile connectivity for the buses? Why this fixation with mega projects?

Five reasons why the PTMP is a white elephant masterplan https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/473078 1) Questionable high population density projections of 367,379 in the year 2030! Hello, Penangites. How many babies can you make in 11 years with early lights out at night? 2) Cost of PIL1 – the projected cost of RM 9.6 billion will make it one of the most expensive transport infrastructures in Malaysia (history). 7.5 times higher relative to revised price tag of ECRL! (see chart for more eye-popping cost per km comparison) Dear PM. Did the Finance Minister (ex-Penang CM) caution you? 3) Artificially inflated benefits of LRT… Read more »
The Niao Kong Legacy continues to this day of Malaysia Baru, albeit under another CM! = Arrogant, ill-prepared to face tough questions, play of words, change of mind & lulus bola. NB: Already incapable of facing the angry NGOs & concerned Penangites, how to face the intrusive media? Just ask some Chinese media for past ‘bad’ experiences with Niao Kong. = Oh yes, fixated tangoing with developers for funding thro’ questionable swap deals (of unanswerable cost-to-benefit ratio) at the mercy of greedy-not-enough developers. Where art thy vision for Penang (after 11 yrs of Cosmopolitan Penang > CoastMudPolitan Gurney Drive)? Oh… Read more »
chinese media = timber tycoon = BN crony = MCA member = BN attack d… enough said…hehe
The truth is Niao Kong has bad temper, poor PR skills & low EQ!
Preaching freedom of press to BN was an irony in practice! Cakap tak serupa bikin!
Can’t take the heat, then don’t try harder but behave as a kia-su-kia-lang-kong politician!
don’t worry…got freedom to kau beh kau bo….hehe
BFM should have asked Chow if he is aware that Penangites have high affinity for personal cars and are adverse to public transportation.
I agree. You cannot take the car away from a Penangite. For that LRT will not appeal to them!
Ask pg ngos. It was same with Aussie greens. They talk about implementing electric cars but they are driving gasoline cars.
What happen to the poor? A great divide. Poor and ah peks public transport
nah…should ask NGOs instead….hehe
Penang folks prefer to drive to be in control.
Public transport can never appeal to them.
Chow does not get it?
How to appeal when rush with banglas Nepali, sweepers, factory workers. Further only standing room and have to share the breath they breathe.
hehe…you think elite like award winning Publisher loaded third gen Salma Khoo and International BANKER Lim Mah hui are going to get up close and personal with the Bangla…
Upgrading things got no benefits, they prefer building(reclamation, high-end condos). 70 billion should be distributed evenly to all Penangites to combat the rising cost of living.
after finish off the 70 billion free money then another 70 billion free money for lifestyle expenses…gelakan? so gelakan says parasitic hand out culture must continue…hehe
I don’t support Gerakan but will pick them anytime over Developer Arrogant Party (DAP). If 70 bn is gonna go to waste like that (I don’t see any benefits), why not hand it straight to the people.
Of course you forget C E lim asked his relative arch in sing to design komtar. Why gilakan built so high tower and where gilakan gomen get money. Pity those bechah riders. Livelihood destroyed.
You don’t see everything. You close eyes and minds.
You want to upgrade road by extending to the front doors and take away the footpath and front porch.
Plainly, CM Chow couldn’t & was reluctant to answer the question of ROI from the Rm46bn costs of financing this Monster. Anger management lacking?
CM Chow cracked under pressure?
A most adversarial interview style, the sense of which doesn’t quite get captured in a transcript. Listening on-air, it ‘felt’ a lot like ambush by not letting the interviewee complete answers. I felt for Chow. KS Chuang was ‘biting n not letting go’. Not sure if you can call aggression and rudeness a good interview technique ;there is always room for courtesy, even Najib got better from a Maryann Jolly. Ever seen such on BBC Hardtalk?
Chow can seek help from Gobind to get a slot on RTM TV1 to present his case live on TV to the public in defending his transport plan.
Normal for politicians. Listen to bbc radio 4 Today and hear how professional politicians fend for themselves under aggressive and ambush interview. Chow needs a thicker skin.
No matter how thick the skin, he has no answers to back himself. To continue questioning back the Rm70 bn as claimed by BFM was a way to end the interview prematurely. How can one blame the interviewer for rudeness?
If a politician cannot handle an interviewer no matter how tough or rough, pls don’t walk into it. You will get skinned like a cat!
Same with you. You very happy developer build “cheap” and modern house for you. Otherwise why not continue to stay in wong fei hoong shop house?
Tung land 70 billion is a small sum. Everything can be accounted in that amount
unfortunately CM met an unprofessional, rude and lying interviewer….good to cut him off..telling him on his face that he is not relevant anyway…
no wonder so many … happening in BFM..lying on radio show… harassment and even act judge and court themselves to kaodim scandal within the station..BFM, maybe look into the mirror first before criticizing others ….hehe
Can Anil initiate discussion on constitutional monarchy/democracy in view of the confusion over the appointment of Johor MB and Exco?
Who is correct, Tun M or TMJ?
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir has claimed that the state constitutions of Johor and Terengannu were “nullified” following the formation of the Federation of Malaya.
Is this in our Sejarah syllabus?
Waiting for Anil to do an exclusive no-holds-barred interview with CM Chow.
BFM is very rude and kurang ajar from the get go…who address a CM as “chow” only and not Mr Chow, so typical of those ill manner NGOs who shout, scream and curse when thing don’t go their way …. and do your homework and get your fact right ..Mr Chow has more important thing to do than to entertain these clown who has not had a clue ….
The interviewer called the CM, “chow”???? LOL…
“Chow” does not sound confident of his facts and arguments and handled a poor and over confident interviewer badly.
Its a … ridiculous drama between “Chow” and the leftist groups.
Chow Chow want to control 3 Kingdoms?
Where’s the he-he-he? Isn’t this laughable???
Hi, Anil, do you agree with BMF’s approach with the CM of Penang?
BFM Radio got at least one fact wrong. On the surface, maybe they were on the wrong track by focusing on the open tender for land sales when the project has not yet been “approved”. But indirectly they could have been questioning the whole open tender thing… They should have also questioned the whole rationale for the project. Why more reclamation when there are ongoing reclamation projects elsewhere in Penang and there is already a glut in high-end homes. That said, the interviewee could have handled the questions with more grace and aplomb. Sounded a bit stressed. I didn’t understand… Read more »
If I am that someone, I would focus on a list of do-able within the next four years, like bus routes, ferries, traffic dispersion, instead of spending a lot of time on these mega projects.
Ah yes, but then some people prefer expensive mega projects that can justify more land reclamation.
Same why not relocate the airport why deep silence?
Want to become another SingLand but don’t have the skills, the integrated planning, the vision for all people & the political will + empathy to develop a small state BUT gladly at the mercy of greedy developers just b’cos of funding.
No people are chip chip. They don’t want to pay. Look for chip one ton mee. Even pg botanical gdn has none or one botanist. Sing gomen can pay sand from overseas and undersea. Sinkspore lang support but pg lang complain everything. Built on hillslopes cannot, tear houses and rebuilt orso cannot. Reclaim cannot and move airport to kedah or perak cannot. Everything cannot in pg lang
Who take ferries when it is faster by bridge just like who take buses when it can be done by cars.
Dispersion means building more roads. You agree then
Anil does not has a problem with the rudeness of that kurang ajar…because they are on the same page…same feather…hehe
