In some way, the DAP party polls today has sprung a few surprises as certain party stalwarts put up a poor showing.
But has anything within the party really changed in terms of its thinking on the type of development suitable for the people?
What does the new leadership think about the controversial mega-projects in Penang?
The ecological harmful highway projects on sensitive hill terrain such as the north coast “paired” road?
The untapped potential of water transport and the neglect of the ferry and bus services?
The shelved Halcrow transport blueprint that focused on affordable buses and trams and ferries instead of that multi-billion elevated LRT in a bloated transport plan?
The land reclamation on fishing waters?
A development model driven by property developers, many of whom seem more interested in building expensive housing rather than really affordable housing for the people?
The lack of interest in workers’ rights, especially the plight of the working class who are struggling to cope with high prices for essential items?
The lack of any real interest in food security and the challenges that farmers face?
The lack of any outspoken concern about the state of our underfunded public healthcare system?
Is there any real difference between the old and the new leadership of the DAP in terms of the party’s development ideology? You tell me.

Hi Anil,
Please look into another unsustainable high-density development of condo on hill slope at Cangkat Sungai Ara 3.
Appear to be sitting on steep slope and it is adjacent to existing houses.
Close to 1,000 units
This is the signboard erected at the site. Name of developer was not disclosed.
Residents of Sungai Ara are among last to receive water when there is water supply disruption. It will be worse with recently completed developments and this proposed project.
Hope you can look into this.
Talk to YB SIM to share the residents concern, otherwise they take things for granted.
YB Sim just kept quiet.
Perhaps he is more interested in Murals in Sungai Ara
PKR please do not take voters for granted. Please go down to meet rakyat to understand their needs.
no, recently he wanted to run as VP as VIP is more important
what are the nms in pkr been doing? They do not need to worry and deal with insults from oppositions. What reforms they are promoting. they live in a sheltered life
Paved the paradise to put up a parking lot?

Such project will definitely contribute to more traffic congestion in Sungai Ara and Bayan Baru.
Flyovers exist because of cars.
Existing roads cannot cope, so need elevated ones.
Address the root cause by cutting down the car population.
Good point raised!
Too many cars on the road!
Need new measures!
George Town heritage enclave’s pre-war buildings and narrow streets were designed for a slower pace of life, in an era before cars.
But as a tourist hotspot, the enclave now faces a growing challenge. As the crowds arrive, cars choke the very lanes that once allowed for simple, unobstructed living. Cars parked illegally along the road, hindering its two way traffic flow.

Actually the heritage zone should be made car free during the day.
better if around markets, eating places and shops as pedestrians need not to worry about cars and kapcais
The majority of Malaysian drivers do not respect pedestrians. Pedestrians do not even need to raise their hand. It is their right to use the zebra crossing. Vehicles should stop and give way — not speed up when they see pedestrians crossing.

how to cut? Rakyat 8 says is more convenient and always say his democratic right to choose cars over public transport
Petrol is unsustainably cheap. This discourages Rakyat from taking public transport
The cost of a plate of nasi lemak — a beloved Malaysian staple — has skyrocketed by 81.3% over the past 13 years, rising from RM2.03 in 2011 to RM3.68 in 2024. This increase significantly exceeds the national inflation rate of 28.7% during the same period, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

The government has decided to fully discontinue the egg subsidy starting this August 1.
Expect hawker food to cost more?
I don’t understand why Penangites, especially those in the areas of Sungai Ara, Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas are hardly vocal about the ongoing high-density unsustainable developments in these areas. These high-density developments started after the change of state government in 2008. It becomes fishier when one developer could supply 50% of the houses on Penang Island. The traffic from Golden Triangle to Bayan Baru roundabout is gridlocked during peak hours. Imagine the traffic condition when more high-density developments in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas and Bayan Baru including Penang International Commercial City are completed. But who cares as long as… Read more »
Don’t blame the flyover if you have penchant for cars.
Why blame DAP? Any existing political parties will have no solution. Get real. Go blame the National Automobile Policy.
Shuttle services: A sustainable solution to urban traffic woes
https://focusmalaysia.my/shuttle-services-a-sustainable-solution-to-urban-traffic-woes/
If a car in a rush hour traffic contains one driver, then having 30 passengers aboard a shuttle effectively eliminates 29 vehicles on the road.
That is a massive amount of carbon savings with just one shuttle. Think about all that love generated.
MBI case is now implicating property tycoons and politicians?
https://thick-brick.blogspot.com/2025/03/mbi-investigation-could-lead-to-guan.html?m=1
Questions abound as the ghost of MBI walks again
https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/750023
While investors from China claim that they had poured billions into the MBI scheme, it’s hard to fathom how such a huge amount of money got past the scrutiny of Bank Negara. This is because by 2017, the 1MDB scandal was already a stain on Bank Negara’s track record.
Ghost of MBI reawakens, police raids rattle Penang
https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/749926
According to sources, among the seized materials are those involving the Bayan Mutiara development in Penang, where a company linked to MBI became the major shareholder in 2018.
Several more arrests will be carried out in the near future following the discovery of the MBI investment scheme, a fraudulent investment scheme based on the Ponzi concept, says Bukit Aman.
Ongoing investigations and intelligence gathering with the cooperation of foreign enforcement agencies have uncovered new evidence implicating more individuals.
KUALA LUMPUR (April 22): The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) plans to nab another ‘Tan Sri’ in connection with its investigation into the MBI ponzi scheme, following a second round of arrests from April 18 to 21 and the seizure of RM347 million in assets, according to sources.
One ‘Tan Sri’ was arrested between April 18 and 21. Another ‘Tan Sri’, arrested earlier, was not directly involved in the syndicate but had tricked a suspect into paying money to avoid arrest.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 — Police have arrested eight individuals, including four with the title of Datuk, in connection with the Mobility Beyond Imagination (MBI) scam and seized RM3.17 billion worth of assets.
The government has announced that all mobile users will receive a minimum of 5GB of free data on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the offer of free data, applicable for both prepaid and postpaid users, would be available for at least 24 hours, subject to the terms and conditions of participating telecommunications providers.
The fish population around Penang island will soon be living in “flat units and bungalows” as specially designed artificial reefs have been deployed in the sea to create a safe and thriving marine habitat.
A total of 20 of these reef structures, resembling miniature unfinished condominiums, are being placed off Pulau Kendi as part of a biodiversity “township”, an initiative aimed at restoring marine life and ecosystems in the southern waters of Penang.

they are build high rises not only on land but orso in the sea,
More than 341,000 water account holders across all five districts in Penang are expected to face water supply disruption of up to 60 hours, from April 25 to 28.
Are you affected, Mr Anil?
Yes, in a way.
On Penang Island, affected areas in the northeast district include George Town, Jelutong, Gelugor, and USM. Meanwhile, areas such as Air Itam, Tanjong Tokong, and Batu Ferringhi will not be affected. In the southwest district, disruptions will occur in Bayan Baru, Batu Maung, and Teluk Kumbar, while Balik Pulau (north), Teluk Bahang, and Sungai Pinang will remain unaffected.
The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) has incurred the ire of its customers whose taps ran dry more than 24 hours before the scheduled water supply disruption.
Those affected took to Facebook on Thursday (April 24), slamming the corporation for shutting down the taps running dry, as the scheduled water cut was supposed to begin at 10pm on Friday (April 25).
IPOH, April 15 — The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today said that the nation seems to be drifting further away from unity as racial and religious issues are increasingly sensationalised.
In his speech at the opening of the Perak state legislative assembly at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building, Sultan Nazrin said some individuals are exploiting these issues to gain recognition as champions of their community or faith.
His Majesty said these matters are being deliberately magnified and manipulated, risking the triggering of wider tensions.
After more than 160 years of operation—surviving even the Japanese invasion during World War II—the Penang Turf Club (PTC) will cease its horse-racing activities by June.
It’s believed that the club’s next option would be to break up the land into several parcels and sell it separately. This will make the sale more feasible and able to attract a bigger pool of potential buyers.
More housing projects coming up?
Expect more traffic congestion around that area in the future.
Penang Forum has urged the state government to place the Penang Turf Club land under a special area plan to preserve it as a public green space in line with its original recreational use.
Anil can provide further update.
Nothing much to add. The space was originally granted for recreational use. Should remain so, as Penang really lacks green spaces.
Same as kl turf club but turned into highrise. who wants to go to serdang?
Penang is set to make waves in the film industry as Mamu Georgetown, a highly anticipated production, begins filming this May.
With over 30 stunning filming locations across the state, Mamu Georgetown promises a visual feast, showcasing Penang’s natural beauty and historical charm.
From the iconic streets of George Town to its rich architectural landmarks, the film will highlight the state’s vibrant heritage, offering a deeper glimpse into what makes Penang one of Malaysia’s most treasured destinations.

Reminds me of Mami Jarum the movie with Penang as backdrop. It was then very fashionable to speak in Penang accent.
Former Batu Uban assemblyman S. Raveentharan was critical of the state’s omission from the “Top 20 Happiest Cities in Malaysia for 2025”, citing that the notorious traffic congestion is as a key reason.

I think rakyat 8 will disagree. He has been telling me it is most convenient to drive.
PSM will contest the upcoming Ayer Kuning by-election, according to its deputy president S Arutchelvan.
Will the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple be an election issue?
PSM has again opted to field its deputy secretary-general Bawani KS as a candidate in the Ayer Kuning by-election.
Vote for PSM or any independent . If you think that your fake guardians will continue to care for you , open your eyes and see the real situation in Malaysia today. Case after case of corruption are in court or dismised or delayed. You think the self-centered guardians can care for you when the money runs out?
Honestly what can PSM do?
They are just spoiling the chances of Madani to give PN the edge.
Do you think PSM will oppose PH and support PN’s policies?
Anil can provide his view on this matter. He is more familiar with PSM.
Nail did not endorse PSM?
The vote for PSM will give advantage to PN?
Sorry Anil, I want to bring to your attention that I have almost a month’s worth of comments submitted, that have not yet been published.
I think it would be better to remove all of them, as they no longer serve their purpose.
Please, go ahead and do so, under the current and previous topics. Thank you.
OK I’ve removed the unmoderated comments backlog now.
A dangerous move by Anil with over censorship. Rakyat 8 may disappear in disappointment (or in protest) like tunglang.
I believe Rakyat 8 is not budak budak main main and throw tantrum. He is not siu hee. He is a very gracious and a gentleman
No more from Rakyat 8 supposedly frustrated and boycotting Anil now?
the fly over is built for convenience of car drivers, Rakyat 8 will be very happy, very shiok – no jam and no pedestrians to cross the road
