Now, it’s Balik Pulau…

Nowhere is spared in Penang from the ever-encroaching concrete jungle.

What else do you expect when the draft Penang Island Local Plan has been “missing in action” since 2008 under all sorts of pretexts. This has given developers and politicians a free hand – and in the process created haphazard development.

Now we hear that rustic haven of Balik Pulau, once an idyllic getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, is succumbing… to a 90-acre “integrated development” project – you know, commercial blocks, bungalows, terrace houses, condos and a couple of low-cost blocks

Apparently, the plans are at the federal level.

First comes the road: A road that few people want.

Many are still in the dark about what is to follow:First a road, now a township…

There is also the question of building on former swampy mangrove land, which could have mud and clay up to 25 metres beneath. You might get that sinking feeling after some time… And look out for the nitrate and ammonium pollution from the nearby fish and shrimp farms.

hehe….it seems that these so called “civil” group want Balik Pulau to remain as ulu as possible , deprive them of new access road and daily convenience, so that they can enjoy their ” rustic haven” in their crave for getaway when they feel like it….not unlike those western tourist who forever want Asia to be exotic, cheap and broken…

If you think the West is all about concrete and so called “high-end condos”, you are living in another planet. They are reknowed for planned development. Our CAT government has the build “how you like” style, very x100 sad…

A bit off topic here but check out this event, Anil. https://www.facebook.com/events/362924357881647/ https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdr_8OFXHzVe4RsO6aOfiKWVHvbGkQhcRQ5GoEtx3xNxnMQzQ/viewform Unfortunately, for you, it’s in Kuala Lumpur. Rather interestingly, one of the speakers, a PSM KL/PJ Environmental Bureau commitee member, has come out strongly in favour of nuclear power over more sustainable, renewable and safer alternatives such as solar and wind. https://hashtagliberasi.org/2018/09/30/in-defence-of-nuclear-energy/ https://hashtagliberasi.org/2018/10/18/managing-nuclear-waste/ And strongly in favour of the Lynas management versus Yeo Bin Yin https://hashtagliberasi.org/2018/12/14/my-reply-to-yeo-bee-yins-reply-to-lynas/ https://hashtagliberasi.org/2018/12/16/my-reply-to-yb-wong-tack/ Dunno where the other PSM speaker Sharan Raj’s will stand on nuclear power, since PSM is officially opposed to Lynas and to nuclear power, for now at least. In 2008,… Read more »

Tung land, milk tea and ma jiji will oppose all developments. You lead all the way. You move your resident from the border, and to subang and now next to the nuclear plant? Will you be willing to move next door? You trust those operating the plant? Semua pun boleh Dan boleh cincai?

Better news for BALIK PULAU:

For 10 sen, one can savour a warm plate of briyani rice or tomato rice at an eatery in Jalan Pondok Upeh here.

Comparatively, a plate of plain briyani usually costs RM3, tomato rice (RM2) and white rice (RM1.50) at regular nasi kandar outlets.

If stop all development how can tung land enjoy blogging in his condo build cheaply and comfortably by the developer? He complain he can’t afford to buy houses in heritage area. He can afford to buy Condo as the developer built them chip chip. Tung land is happy or not? Still not happy he gets a house cheaper and more comfortable than heritage house. Still accuse me of spinning when developer build houses cheaper than those in heritage areas? Why tung land don’t blame heritage house owners are like developers demanding more and pg gomen are orso friends of heritage… Read more »

International Strategy Institute (ISI):
“Young Malaysians should focus on careers based on the Internet of Things (IoT) instead of traditional professions in accounting, law and engineering as these professions will “inevitably be taken over by artificial intelligence”.

https://malaysia.yahoo.com/news/internet-things-spells-end-accountants-113728284.html

40% of all existing jobs today are predicted to be wiped out within 15 years from now.

I think bloggers like Anil will still prevail regardless of internet of things so long as he stays relevant and impartial in his postings on current issues!

– / Contd Engineering is the application of different sciences to design buildings, bridges, dams, structures, power plants, aircraft, trains, buses, cars, ships, industrial equipment, industrial plants, chemical processing plants, electrical and electronic equipment, electrical and electronic appliances and so forth, many of which have their respective nuances relevant to real-world conditions and circumstances, which require human investigation on the ground to arrive at suitable designs. Would you fly in an airplane, cross a bridge, ride in a high-speed train, live or work in a high-rise building, buy a car and so forth which are completely designed by artificial intelligence… Read more »

The shifting of blame game has commenced.
Does Federal gomen have the power to build roads anywhere without state approval? Like that tilting & dangerous arch @ Botanic Gardens (demolished after public outcry) erected without prior public scrutiny.

Hope is on economic-sound minded & development-responsible & environmental conscious Penangites without the he-he-he mentality of reckless thinking & shrieking insanity for all things slippery development ala HK + SingLand. Learn from the Scandinavian nations how they develop talents for world brands like Nokia, Ikea, H&M, Secret Gardens (duo), etc that bring in massive foreign exchange without the insanity of tall buildings & frenzied sea reclamation (to justify creating business opportunities?) while enjoying pristine nature. See how they despite less than 12 months of sunshine can harness sunshine & sea winds for renewal energy without the need of dams. PH… Read more »
