Cabinet lifts ban on Malaysia Today

The Cabinet has ordered the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) to reinstate access to all blocked websites including Malaysia Today, according to The Star online. It quoted Energy, Water and Communications Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor.

SKMM had instructed  ISPs to block Malaysia Today in August.

Remember how Khairy later came out openly to oppose the ban?

And remember, I suggested that he whisper into his father-in-law’s ear asking him to lift the ban. I wonder if he did just that. 🙂

Well, at least they have “seen the light”. Anyway, the ban was a complete flop, wasn’t it – what with the mirror sites and alternative URLs widely circulated.

Ok, so the government has come to its senses. Great. Now that the website has been unblocked, we can all visit it again. Yahoo! Err… wait a minute, we were always able to visit Malaysia today except for a hiccup of couple of hours. More importantly, why has the ban been lifted? – The government has realised the error of its ways and is repentant? – All the accusations it made of sleaze and slurs appearing on this site are unwarranted? – It is not seditious? – RPK will not therefore be brought to book since there is no case… Read more »

arifabdull,

You got the point. The fact is that, RPK no more own MT when they decided to block it. MT is in fact, dead. What we access now iis the son of MT.

Anonymous said… In 2004 GE11, the Malaysian Voters have had given the PeeM AAB 90% of the seats in Parliament with a Mandate of almost full support but what had he done to Malaysia, with his arrogance, he tried to oppress & betray the Rakyats’ trust in him and mismanage the Government and suppressed the MSM News and spun lies and deceits. What could PeeM AAB ever do anything to Ahmad Ismail BUT A SLAP ON THE HAND OF A MERE 3 YEARS SUSPENSION??? …S. Light-up the Candles now and but justice for all ISA detainees come the new dawn… Read more »

RPK suspected something fishy about this sudden pullback by cabinet. He might be right and I believe he will come out with something new in his blog. Anyway, the Botak Minister has threatened to use ISA against RPK and the sleepy PeeAM also said that ISA could be used against those who stir up racial sentiments in Bolehland. These are desperate acts of those struggling to cling on to power in the … racist party. The real culprits are from their own party, including the sly fox… Who else are so arrogant and defiant, without showing any sign of remorse?… Read more »

Let us not forget that the MCMC went against the Bill of Guarantees. And I do not recall anybody – not MCMC CEO Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi, the person most accountable for the blockade, not assorted ministers / dep. ministers, not the PM, nobody – ever apologising for the breach. No one even admitted that their action was wrong. Apa ni? Guarantee in black and white, breach blatantly, issue various excuses in spite of the iron-clad provision in Section 3 of the Communications and Multimedia Act viz: Nothing in this Act shall be construed as permitting the censorship of the Internet.… Read more »

Block or unblock doesn’t matter to me. That’s why lifting ban to safe ‘some’ goodwill left, if any.

Keep going, RPK.

i think the only reason they need to lift the ban on MT is to make their court cases against Pete possible.

OK finally the cabinets realize something is wrong somewhere. The blocking of MT has far reaching implications to the nation industry in everything brother. But I am still wondering who is the guy behind this blocking of MT. Don’t you thing someone out there has the secret?

I wonder if there weren’t also some discrete concerned queries from the MSC’s foreign investors.
They don’t care about local politics, they’re mainly interested in their ROIC, but the government’s keeping to its Multimedia Bill of Guarantees is a concern.

Well at last common sense prevails among some government leaders.

It’s the right thing to do; and we must congratulate the individual(s) who made this happened.

What I want to see next is for them to drop the charges levelled against Raja Petra; and forget about other possible actions against him, such as the ISA.

These people in power must realize that there are different views on all issues; and they must learn to respect these differences.

If there’s no Malaysia for today
How can there be a Malaysia for tomorrow?
Let’s help make Malaysia everyday here to stay
So that we can have happiness instead of any sorrow
