‘Surprises’ at DAP polls – but has anything really changed?

In some way, the DAP party polls today has sprung a few surprises as certain party stalwarts put up a poor showing.

But has anything within the party really changed in terms of its thinking on the type of development suitable for the people?

What does the new leadership think about the controversial mega-projects in Penang?

The ecological harmful highway projects on sensitive hill terrain such as the north coast “paired” road?

The untapped potential of water transport and the neglect of the ferry and bus services?

The shelved Halcrow transport blueprint that focused on affordable buses and trams and ferries instead of that multi-billion elevated LRT in a bloated transport plan?

The land reclamation on fishing waters?

A development model driven by property developers, many of whom seem more interested in building expensive housing rather than really affordable housing for the people?

The lack of interest in workers’ rights, especially the plight of the working class who are struggling to cope with high prices for essential items?

The lack of any real interest in food security and the challenges that farmers face?

The lack of any outspoken concern about the state of our underfunded public healthcare system?

Is there any real difference between the old and the new leadership of the DAP in terms of the party’s development ideology? You tell me.

Flyovers exist because of cars.
Existing roads cannot cope, so need elevated ones.
Address the root cause by cutting down the car population.

Petrol is unsustainably cheap. This discourages Rakyat from taking public transport

Hi Anil,

Please look into another unsustainable high-density development of condo on hill slope at Cangkat Sungai Ara 3.

Appear to be sitting on steep slope and it is adjacent to existing houses.

Close to 1,000 units

This is the signboard erected at the site. Name of developer was not disclosed.

Residents of Sungai Ara are among last to receive water when there is water supply disruption. It will be worse with recently completed developments and this proposed project.

Hope you can look into this.

Don’t blame the flyover if you have penchant for cars.

Why blame DAP? Any existing political parties will have no solution. Get real. Go blame the National Automobile Policy.

I don’t understand why Penangites, especially those in the areas of Sungai Ara, Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas are hardly vocal about the ongoing high-density unsustainable developments in these areas. These high-density developments started after the change of state government in 2008. It becomes fishier when one developer could supply 50% of the houses on Penang Island. The traffic from Golden Triangle to Bayan Baru roundabout is gridlocked during peak hours. Imagine the traffic condition when more high-density developments in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas and Bayan Baru including Penang International Commercial City are completed. But who cares as long as… Read more »

Shuttle services: A sustainable solution to urban traffic woes

https://focusmalaysia.my/shuttle-services-a-sustainable-solution-to-urban-traffic-woes/

If a car in a rush hour traffic contains one driver, then having 30 passengers aboard a shuttle effectively eliminates 29 vehicles on the road.

That is a massive amount of carbon savings with just one shuttle. Think about all that love generated.

Questions abound as the ghost of MBI walks again

https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/750023

While investors from China claim that they had poured billions into the MBI scheme, it’s hard to fathom how such a huge amount of money got past the scrutiny of Bank Negara. This is because by 2017, the 1MDB scandal was already a stain on Bank Negara’s track record.

Several more arrests will be carried out in the near future following the discovery of the MBI investment scheme, a fraudulent investment scheme based on the Ponzi concept, says Bukit Aman.

Ongoing investigations and intelligence gathering with the cooperation of foreign enforcement agencies have uncovered new evidence implicating more individuals.

After more than 160 years of operation—surviving even the Japanese invasion during World War II—the Penang Turf Club (PTC) will cease its horse-racing activities by June.

It’s believed that the club’s next option would be to break up the land into several parcels and sell it separately. This will make the sale more feasible and able to attract a bigger pool of potential buyers.

Case after case of corruption are in court or dismised or delayed. You think the self-centered guardians can care for you when the money runs out?
