People’s Agenda: Celebrate diversity and inclusivity

The Bon Odori brouhaha is another episode that shows us why we have to adopt a more inclusive and accepting approach to ethnic and cultural diversity.

Ngo Sheau Shi, an executive committee member of the academic freedom movement Gerak, highlights the importance of promoting diversity to create a more inclusive society.

The third item of the People’s Agenda: Celebrate diversity and inclusivity

  • Acknowledge, respect and include gender, ethnic and religious diversity in planning, development and policymaking
  • Stop all forms of discrimination on the grounds of gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, age, ability and location
  • Protect the rights of all indigenous communities to their land and livelihoods

If you have not seen the People’s Agenda, along with the full list of endorsers, check it out here. If you belong to an NGO that would like to endorse the People’s Agenda, get them to fill up the online endorsement form.

AGENDA RAKYAT – Lima perkara utama

  1. Tegakkan maruah serta kualiti kehidupan rakyat
  2. Galakkan pembangunan saksama, lestari serta tangani krisis alam sekitar
  3. Raikan kerencaman dan keterangkuman
  4. Selamatkan demokrasi dan angkatkan keluhuran undang-undang
  5. Lawan rasuah dan kronisme

No ceiling price for chickens. PN government to use floating pricing so consumers be warned your chicken will only rise further.
Your protein source should now come from insects if chickens are no more affordable?

Domino effect to begin 1 July. Suppliers to increase price, hawkers (although many are still using the subsized 1kg plastic bag oil) will have good excuse to past the cost to the customers.

Meanwhile FGV board of directors get massive pay hike when we pay more for palm oil.

The next government must have concrete plan to improve our economy and Ringgit. Otherwise our quality of life will continue to deteriorate since we import our food and petrol (we are net oil importer) and they are getting more expensive each day. I do not want the same old way of dispensing monetary aid like Brim, prihatin keluarga and sorts as we can never beat inflation – the government will then impose more taxes like GST on us!

Most people know political donation is just another word for bribery. Which company, will give out money if it does not bring about many fold returns. And the worst is political donations from GLCs. They are instructed to make donations by the receipts who usually control them. So it is public money siphoned out to politicians by politicians. And usually people who receive the donations keep the bulk for themselves with only a fraction going to the party coffers, if any.

Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has proposed that the Bon Odori events in Malaysia be renamed, to avoid any “confusion” (he is still confused?) about the event’s traditional origin which he claimed to contain elements of syirik (idolatry) and khurafat (superstition).

Telling the Japanese to change the name of their traditional festival is unreasonable and insensitive. Surely the Muslims are capable of making appropriate decisions and not be easily influenced. Please respect the Selangor Sultan’s decree.

Diversity and Inclusivity simply means Embracing Variety. The core or the central subject to this 2 words are PEOPLE. They are the main ‘Actors’. Without the people, these 2 words are just empty shells.

Diversity and Inclusivity involves about one’s culture, one’s beliefs, one’s religion, one’s way of life, one’s work, the environment one lives in etc etc etc. The subject of diversity is quite diverse and one need to know how to embrace the variety.

In business/industry regullations/law, reliability and clarity are paramount. The recent sudden ruling on chicken, and the earlier threats to cut off water to S’pore, will only undermine M’sian enterprises.

Recently, the authorities banned the export of renewable energy (solar). Now, renewable energy (hydro) is already flowing into S’pore from Laos via Thailand and M’sia.
