Welcome back, Maria Chin; now everyone can be an activist!

47

Brilliant news about Maria Chin’s release. Take a bow all you Malaysians who campaigned hard for her release. The above award-winning song of light overcoming darkness is dedicated to all those who persisted with the campaign.

As vigils were held, candles lit, petitions signed, online activism and awareness spread, it must have been a case of of How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria? for the authorities.

As the final line of the lyrics goes, “How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?” Simply impossible. And so it was with How Do You Manage the Public Outcry for Maria’s Release? They just couldn’t.

It didn’t help that with social media and messaging apps, everyone can be an activist! Each act of sharing news of injustice and oppression raises the awareness of the people.

We salute the extraordinary courage of those who turned out at the many events to make their voices heard, many of them attending a rally for the first time, inspired by the courage of Maria and their fellow Malaysians.

Why, some of them were even unfazed when hecklers tried to disrupt a vigil for Maria and Zunar at the Esplanade yesterday. Undaunted, these concerned Malaysians chanted slogans and even succeeded in drowning out the hecklers!

Even the police yesterday did a good job in containing the ruckus created by these 15-odd hecklers unlike what happened the previous day, when a mob went on a rampage during Zunar’s exhibition at Komtar.

Syabas to one and all!

Bersih has decided to sue TV3 for alleged defamation over the claim that the electoral watchdog received RM3.2 billion from American financier George Soros.

“We have handed them a letter of demand to ask them to retract and apologise, (TV3) said they are not going to do that, so we are proceeding with legal action,” Bersih chief Maria Chin Abdullah told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Datuks and Latuks https://www.malaysiakini.com/columns/365173 COMMENT When will the few genuine Datuks defend their dignity, protect the sanctity of the ‘Datuk’ award and fight off the ‘Latuks’ of society? The ‘Cash-for-Datukships’ fiasco has been brewing for decades, but last week’s shooting in Penang has propelled the debate into overdrive, on social media. Last Thursday, businessman Ong Teik Kwong was shot dead in his car, near the Penang bridge. His alleged murderer, who was seated in the passenger seat, had drawn a revolver and shot Ong in the neck. The police confirmed that Ong was the head of ‘Gang 24′ and had… Read more »

Dai Lo means what?
Not a simple ‘hormat’ anyone can claim allegiance from many members.
As OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said: Datuk M a top boss in notorious Gang 24.
Do you believe a top boss of such hi-profile gang has no ‘records’?
Let’s play gangsters with water-pistols like 70s kids in Lorong Madras! No records mah!

TDM screwed up during his 22 years but he also did a lot of things right. Action speaks louder than words – by entering DAP den of lions, by enduring scathing rebuke from his ex-colleagues in UMNO, by rebuking Ibrahim Ali, TDM is acknowledging his mistakes much more than any mere apology. I fear the day TDM is gone – our present problems will then never be resolved. TDM is the only one capable of bringing about acceptance of DAP by the Malays. He is also the only one capable of bringing a peaceful transfer of power in the event… Read more »

I have one parallel ‘donation’ case in mind: The giver (or the source) cannot be identified, but the taker is known all over the world. Now, should the giver or the source (those with authority to AOK the ‘transfer’ of money) be caught & the taker is also the giver, then the law cannot apply! That is to arrest the giver but then release the giver since he is also the taker! My lovely condo lembu,… Read more »

Of course there is no need for polis (if wife is efficient) BUT then had it not for that private investigator’s SD.

Wahai orang Melayu! Dear Malays please for a moment think in your right mind why Mahathir, once a great leader and PM of Malaysia from BN is now forced to join and work with people whom he mistakenly thought were his enemies. It is all because he, at this old age, ‘berinsaf’ and wants to rectify his past mistakes and put back the country in the right path in good hands, in non corrupted hands who won’t steal and amass wealth by cheating the people. So Malays open your eyes and join Mahathir for this good cause.

McDonald’s is expensive now because the local owner has to pay higher franchise fees to US as the Ringgit has depreciated a lot against US Dollar?

Imported goods are getting expensive due to unfavourable currency exchange because of our weak Ringgit.

Data roaming:
Belum Rainforest Resort.
Nearest town: Gerik (an hour drive from Belum)
Remember the satellite phone (in a suite case)? This is still used by 4WD kaki, no need for roaming signal in the thick of jungle. I was in Mahang rainforest (Kedah) when my 4WD-Sekawan buddies used Motorola walkie-talkie connected to a satellite radio transmitter to talk with friends @ Gurney Drive! That was in 2002 when there was still no mobile roaming package.

Najib said at Umno assembly that big projects will elevate the economy of Malaysia to bring up the income status of rakyat. This is partly true as rakyat can earn more in salary in time to come, BUT Ringgit will depreciate much faster under BN regime, and will be on at with Indonesian Rupiah before TN50. Everyone can be a millionaire with Ringgit, just like in Zimbabwe. That is why Najib dare not benchmark Ringgit with SingDollar!
