Lighten up and let’s support the young people who will be showcasing our shared heritage from 6.00pm at the Armenian Street area and at 7.00pm at the Acheen Street/Carnarvon Street junction.

This July 7, 2012 at Lebuh Acheh from 7pm – 7.30pm, Ombak Muda children perform the history of Lebuh Acheh, Armenian and Cannon in a musical-dance-theatre. Created by the young people themselves, the 20 minute performance will feature singing, rap, gamelan pieces, as well as music using everyday objects and movements. Based on research and interviews with residents, the music, texts and movements are based on the activities and legends of the people living in the 3 streets. There was constant hustle and bustle with pilgrims going toMecca, White and Red flag activities, clanging from recycle shops, chingay competitions between gangs, 5 kopitiam where the young and old could eat and socialize day and night. Young people could play games in the streets and at the Youth Centre. Yes, the streets were alive! What has become of these streets today? The children will enlighten us!

Directors l Tan Sooi Beng and Aida Redza
Facilitators l Lai Chee, Izzard, Nancy, Sheau Fung
