Heard on the grapevine

Here’s what some people are saying:

  • Guan Eng is expected to win easily in the Bagan parliamentary seat on mainland Penang.
  • Koh Tsu Koon could find the going tough in the Batu Kawan parliamentary seat against the DAP’s Prof Ramasamy.
  • The BN is concerned about its prospects in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and even Pahang.

Last night, I dropped by at the Holy Spirit Cathedral off Green Lane in Penang to check out a talk on election issues of concern. Some 400 people had turned up to listen to Aliran president P Ramakrishnan, academic Zaharom Nain and  Women’s Centre for Change activist Lim Kah Cheng.

In contrast, a similar election talk at the same church hall during the run-up to the 2004 general election could only draw barely 50 people.

It looks like further evidence of the political awakening and concern among Christians, pointing to their likely swing towards the Opposition.

  1. mood among my friends? they ave been apolitical all this while until this election. they are so fed-up with this arrogant and corrupt government and they will come out to vote for the opposition. his wife’s consituency was mysteriously transferred to Ijok from Subang but he said even if its to Kota Bahru, he will send is wife to vote for the opposition.
    talking about arrogance and corruption. even as a caretaker government now, they are reviving the E_Kesihatan project which is another rent seeking project to enrich some cronies. and I hope the opposition will bring this during the ceramah for the next few days.
    this Badawi fella is no more a charlattan. forget about him being clean and fair. He is exactly the opposite, as far as I am concern.

    BN keep playing in the waves
    Actresses and actors endorsing candidates
    They go out to champion their choices
    And their fans eyes teary which one to tag along

    What do I do to make a change?
    Now I hear how important I have become
    Listening to the calls wooing me along
    It is my vote each party wanted for sure
    I am the king for the day………….

    I know what I have to do
    My vote will go for the change
    It is time something good for the country
    A new life; a new album to celebrate
    I am the king for the day
    It is good to feeling it that way

    Wonder why Chun Wai & Joceline is calling Christians as emotional? Of course we are after how government treated us.

    It is only natural that the Opposition wins in a number of seats.
    But the point is that they are not united.

    The BN cannot rule forever, particularlly when they making
    stupid mistakes like religious issues, constitutional issues; saying that Malaysia is an Islamic country where it was clearly agreed that
    it is not. See how they are treating the Indians like s***; whereas
    they are the ones who built this country, along with others, what it
    it is today. But what do they get - mainly menial jobs. I think the
    struggle should start - otherwise the Indians cannot
    get what they want. They had struggles for more than 200 years.
    Ask the Bumiputras to study and learn history- the contributiion
    made by the Indians and chinese.

    In addition, if not the for the Indonesian workers, the Construction
    industry will come to a standstill. But see how they are being treated and rounded up like dogs. The Government should be grateful to the Indonesians who do all the dirty work - but who
    benefits - the construction industry belonging to towkays.

    Secondly, the position of Prime Minister and other Ministers. It looks
    like that they are there for more than 30 or 40 years, like the
    case of CM in Sarawak, Samy in Parliament for 30 years and so on. A law should be enacted that these chaps are there only for TWO TERMS.

    It will take sometime before Malaysia becomes a democractic
    nation.

I can only say one fact-as long as the malays consider the non malays in this country as enemies and they get everything for free as in the past 50 yrs nothing will change.When they stand up for justice and principles -in the majority -only then we can see a real change. Just see who are the corrupt -i dont have to elaborate. The education system has gone down the drain by abolishing english madium education for the sake of politics and racism.im really tired of saying more.

    The rakyat should vote for a change in this GE to stop the rot and hegemony of the BN. I would like to draw your attention to the Declaration of Independence of the USA. They had the foresight more than 200 years ago, it’s little wonder the US is a superpower today, both economically and militarily.

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

    when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
