A study just out reveals that about 85 per cent of new drugs offer few if any new benefits. In fact, a significant cause of death in the United States is due to the toxic side effects or misuse of prescription drugs, reports the Science Daily.
“Sometimes drug companies hide or downplay information about serious side effects of new drugs and overstate the drugs’ benefits,” said Prof Donald Light, author of the paper, Pharmaceuticals: A Two-Tier Market for Producing ‘Lemons’ and Serious Harm.
Drug firms also tend to spend two or three times more on marketing than research to persuade doctors to prescribe these new drugs for conditions other than those for which the drugs have been approved, said Light, who is professor of comparative health policy at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He added that doctors usually tend to dismiss patients’ complaints of side effects or take them lightly.
This is something you won’t see reported much in the mainstream media. That’s because Big Pharma firms contribute big bucks to the advertising revenue of media companies.

By the way, countries spent huge amounts on vaccines in the aftermath of the H1N1 outbreak, which WHO raised to a Level 6 ‘pandemic’. That’s the same WHO that now says we are in a ‘post-pandemic period’. But where was the ‘pandemic’ in the first place?
At the end of the day we pay to be persuaded.
It cost us nearly RM200m to believe in 8 letters – “1Malaysia”. And it’s still incredible !

Reminds me of Avandia & Cervarix. Despite the known side-effects, Avandia was still used in excess among patients with heart problems & those at risk (obesed, with increased risk of oedema & osteoporosis). GSK held so many meetings to allay the drs’ fears & downplay information about its serious side effects, and they bought it! Now the 1govt is spending millions on Cervarix (The relationship between our Ministry of Health & GSK is a bit to cosy for my comfort). Why target HPV when they can’t even provide enough drugs for treating hypertension & diabetes? 40% of the population suffers from hypertension and 15% from diabetes, and these patients, if not controlled, are going to suffer from heart & kidney disease. Yet, our hospitals often don’t have enough good drugs for these patients, and usually end up giving poor quality generics which are sub-standard.
(There are a few good generic manufacturers, but our hospitals buy the sub-par ones…)
At the end of the day, we depend on the govt to regulate & monitor these drugs as most of us don’t read the scientific & clinical papers. We can’t balance the good vs side effects (eg chemotherapy – it has serious side effects but shown to prolong x amount of years. So do you want to spend the money & suffer its affects for the efficacy to live x number of years longer??). Are drs giving us enough information to make the correct judgement? Is the regulatory body stringent enough in enforcing the company to release these data to us?? It seems like, at least in this country, our DCA (& it’s board) is very dependable on US FDA. I would rather they look up the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which is more stringent.

Many Malaysians die because of H1N1. I can’t imagine the total fatality if no vaccines provided for high risk groups of people such as the medical staff.

If I’m not correct, big pharmas create diseases, causing pandemics, then provide solutions in the form of vaccines and disease killing chemicals, and create 2nd waves, even 3rd waves pandemics or rumors of pandemics. In the end, they reap filthy profits for themselves, such malevolent greed in the modern days of evil, self-serving medical / pharma corporations.
No wonder it is written: In the end times, there will be many diseases (man-made?) such as never seen during their forefathers’ times.

Bizarre effects on teens
KUALA LUMPUR: Is hormonal imbalance creating more male teenagers with breasts, while female teenagers are getting more hairy?
Cosmetic and aesthetic physician Dr Alice Prethima said she is seeing many cases of gynecomastia (enlargement of breasts in males) in her clinic.
But, she is also seeing teenage girls coming in because they have too much hair all over their body.
“Compared to the past, there are many girls with terrible hair problems. They are losing the hair on their heads and growing hair on other areas of their body where there shouldn’t be. And, the hair is so long and thick,” she said.
Dr Prethima attributed the abnormalities in male and female teenagers to the food chain and diet.
Physical changes: Bodies of teenage boys are converting testosterone to another form due to bad oestrogenic substance in the environment resulting in abdominal fat and abnormally sized breasts.
“Children are eating too much animal-based food, and those animals are fed with a lot of growth hormones.
“Our society has become more affluent. We may eat meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” she added.
She said bad oestrogens was also entering the body from plastic materials such as fizzy bottled drinks which “bleed” bad oestrogen.
