A waterfall near high-rise apartments at Bukit Gambir, below and close to the site of an exclusive bungalow project on a hill-slope 110 metres above sea level, has turned murky.

The waterfall was photographed by blog reader WM at Cangkat Bukit Gambir 1, 11700 Penang, near the Mutiara Indah apartments.

You can see the surrounding backdrop of the Mutiara Indah apartments below:

This site appears to be below and not far from a property development project to build 17 exclusive bungalows at an elevation of 110 metres above sea level. Have a look at the project website.

Look at the location map of the bungalow project site and compare it with the location of the Mutiara Indah apartments below.

Will the state authorities please tell us how a property development project at an elevation of 110 metres above sea level was approved?

Above 250 feet and above we can only build a bungalow for every acre.

But, just because of the few bungalows, those living below need to suffer? It is just not fair.

Can the State Government act?

The hills are to protect Penang from strong winds and floodings, without it, those bungalows build on the top of the hills will probably be blown off.

We are in a scary 30-day period. I hope the authority will act before something bad happening.

I thought the 250 feet building limitation was only for high rises and not for detached houses. No?

Whether it’s hill law for super-richie’s bungalows or million-ringgit high rises, strict environmental concerns apply. No exception for anything “Chay Shua, Khua Hai” luxurious exclusivity @ the expense of bottom-of-the-hill Penangites. What special projects does it not applies with exceptions? Unless we are closing one eye for this sort of unprecedented hill botak-ing precedence to destroy our hills & Nature. And endangering lives with no human concerns nor safety responsibility. Hope this is no “Money Talks & Money Can Do (Anything Rotten) Indifferently” in a state that loudly aspires to show others a good example of good governance & civil-consciousness.… Read more »
