Two more days to go … and another sign of restlessness in the ranks.
De facto Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim has come out openly to say he is willing to resign for his principles. He believes that the ISA should not be used on civilians, according to a report in The Star online. He says the ISA should only be used against terrorists and those out to topple the government by force.
“I will seek a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to have a frank discussion about this issue to seek his views as soon as possible,” he told reporters.
“I know I am breaking rank here … I am prepared to face the consequences. If I am told to resign, I will do so.
“I am not a trouble maker and I don’t want to cause any trouble for the Prime Minister, but I have my principles and will always be a vocal critic of the use of the ISA.
“I joined his administration to make changes and everybody knows, I am also for a more open form of media reporting,” he added….
He said by using the ISA randomly, the Government was sending out a message that it does not trust the capabilities of its own enforcement agencies, such as the police, in maintaining peace….
“In this latest episode, we (the Government) have generated an impression of selective prosecution since no action was taken against the person who allegedly uttered seditious remarks.
“We are saying that we are only acting against those who are disloyal to us.”
“The Government needs to change and Cabinet members need to realise this — we have to be progressive.”…
“I agree we have many issues and sensitivities to address but for me, racial disharmony is a seasonal thing in Malaysia. We must engage in open dialogues and discussions to resolve these issues,” he said….
“If our court system is too slow, we must … make it more efficient by hiring more prosecutors, while the police must conduct proper investigation to acquire credible evidence,” he said.
Good for you, Zaid, but you should go one step further. Call for the total repeal of the ISA, which is what an increasing number of Malaysians want. It is an immoral law that goes against all principles of natural justice and international human rights standards.
Release all ISA detainees or charge them in open court!
Wah Zaid you go boy. lets see if you have the kahunas! dont just goreng only show us you can do it and we will hormat you!

After 51 years of the Oppression from the BN … ‘divide and rule fear tactics the Rakyats have matured & you must see all this coming because All The Rakyats of Malaysia can no longer with-stand the hypocrisies, bulls***, lies and deceits of these UMNO Clowns now in Power ok???
We urge all BN Components MPs with a conscience to do the necessary to make possible a New Malaysia for all Rakyats of Malaysia so that all our children and their children & their children’s children’s future will be safe and secured in the Country we all love and not be intimidated by those UMNO Clowns now in power with their oppressive & fear tactics and in the verge of making Malaysia a Police State if left unchecked otherwise.
Moronic PM and Botak Home Minister last minutes’ attempts to cling on power by using the fear tactics of using the ISA at their whims and fancies selectively against dissent & tried to deny their own actions as they now have no b*** to face the wrath of the all the Rakyats of Malaysia.
All Rakyats of Malaysia will see to that these Clowns will be thrown out soon come the New Dawn of Malaysia & that all Rakyats of Malaysia will welcome the New Malaysia on Malaysia Day 916, 2008 for a Malaysia for All Malaysians.
Justice MUST BE DONE for Altantuya and for all those detained under ISA without the trial nor the rights of appeal. Light-up a Candle in the Lantern of the Mid-Autumn Festival for them all to usher in the NEW DAWN OF MALAYSIA COME 916, 2008

Anil,
In trying to salvage an already disastrous situation, UMNO continues to make even more blunders. UMNO is just like being trapped in a bog. The more it struggles, the deeper it sinks into the mud. ALL OF MALAYSIA waiting eagerly for 16 Sept where UMNO will inflict last act of destruction on itsef…and Malaysia can begin anew with Anwar as PM of PR after this sordid UMNO foul up of the country for the past 5f0 years

Zaid Ibrahim should quit UMNO and join PR. Let his cross-over on 16 Sept be the start of a massive defection exodus from UMNO/BN to bring this hated UMNO/BN govt down!

Let’s respect those who live with correct sound principles
For they know what’s really best for themselves in principle
Regardless of who are there above them as principals
They’ll live better with clear conscience than their principals

Press for it Zaid, give them ultimatum, you have been suffering in silent and it is not worth when it goes against your conscience. But, where is that non committal guy who pretend to be loyal–N…. still want to play safe. not saying anything, what an opportunist-so Zaid you may tell him that it is not his birthright to be the next PM of Malaysia, and when you meet Pak Lah, tell him don’t hand over the job to Najib, give it to Pakatan Rakyat, where you can find a lot more better guy than Najib and you can then join Pakatan and continue your judiciary reform as plan. Good Luck.

This is so refreshing to read.. Here we have a Minister who is firm in standing up for his principles… which are not lofty ones, but basic humane principles. I salute him for his sense of justice and righteousness. Bravo Zaid Ibrahim…
Where are the rest of such brave men? or is there only 1 standing.
I call on our other Ministers and MPs to take the bold step to make a difference so that we can hope for a new Malaysia. Away with the hegemony and the politics of fear, corruption and nepotism.

Kudos to Zaid. At least he has principle. … Teresa Kok has nothing to do with lowering of the loudspeaker of the Azan call. The mosque care taker has even come out to defend Teresa so why the ISA?

I applaud Zaid Ibrahim for his stand but I believe he will have to resign soon.
It is highly unlikely his moral stand will prevail in an administration afflicted with moral bankruptcy. A case in point is Rais Yatim whose brilliant anti-ISA thesis became an “intellectual exercise” after he joined the cabinet.
Zaid Ibrahim has no place in the moral cesspool of Umno. He should leave proud in the knowledge that he has stuck to his principles.

I think two impoertant person should blame for all.One the former Prime Minister who had frequenly being writing in his blog for all Malaysia rather UMNO members to be brave to speak out is consider the true to raised it up without fear or forvour. Then ABB itself had informed that to speck the true when reporting any news. Now what to this Malaysian ends up in ISA either Mahathir nor ABB can stand by their write of say.Syed Hamid I cannot stand his reasoning
He should a AGRO minister join 40 over for a learning Trip and never return. His logic do not make sense even to a kindergarden child.Being A home Minister and senior Minister IQ is below average person. His action will make BN lost more seats soon and He will also LOSE his seat like Samy. BET Me

UMNO may have a chance…… if only Zaid Ibrahim is the President.
Sadly, his opinion had never had a place in the evil regime, so is doom for UMNO.
