The Aliran Singers are gearing up to perform at a celebratory dinner in Penang on Saturday, 24 October 2009. The singers are coming together again after a two-year break to sing about the current political situation, which should be a whole lot of fun. The special guest artiste for the evening is singer Pete Teo, the producer of the popular 15Malaysia video-clips released recently.

Even if you can’t sing, you can write the songs!
P.S. Should add more names to my initial list of musicians who changed the world … Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Zimbabwean Thomas Mapfumo, the South African “white zulu”, anti-apartheid activist Johnny Clegg. Not forgetting the Chilean Victor Jara (tragic victim of Pinochet’s regime) who said that the guitar is a machine gun ……

One thing about the Aliran Singers is that they don’t let any deficiency in singing talent get in the way of giving everyone a show to remember!
Indeed, the world would be a much kinder place if we had more musicians, artists and poets, don’t you think?

I misquoted Victor Jara.
He actually said that the guitar is a gun
and the song is the bullet. I have two guns at home
and many of Brother Bob Marley’s bullets.
