Chief Minister Guan Eng has issued a warning to Nusmetro Ventures after the Oasis developer’s “highly irresponsible and inflammatory” threats yesterday.

Meanwhile, the state investigative committee needs to quickly get to the bottom of the circumstances surrounding the questionable sale and land transfers. What has happened to the villagers’ report to the MACC?

The State Government will not take a single cent of the so-called “goodwill payment” from the developer unless the kampung Buah Pala residents agree to the compensation.

The Penang state government warns Nusmetro Ventures (P) Sdn Bhd, the developer of the proposed housing project in Kampung Buah Pala, for threatening to send bulldozers in by August 2 to forcibly evict residents and demolish their houses as highly irresponsible and inflammatory. It is highly improper to stoke fear into the villagers’ hearts by reminding them that they will have to move out by Aug 2 when the one-month grace period given by the developer expires and there will be “no more extensions”. The one-month grace period was negotiated by the state government with the developer to find a solution to the problem.

Nusmetro claimed to have offered the highest compensation in the state from RM140,000 to RM260,000 to the temporary occupation of land (TOL) holders as well as their immediate and extended families. And even offered one of the two cattle ranchers there RM330,000 including a five-year rent-free deal for land in Balik Pulau which was rejected.

To say that the developer has the legal right not to pay anything to the residents just because the developer has a Federal Court order, would not assist in resolving this problem. Instead of all the cruel talk about bulldozers, the developer should continue to seek solutions that works towards a win-win situation for all parties. For this reason, the state government will not take a single cent of the “goodwill payment” proposed by the developer to the state government unless the villagers of Kampung Buah Pala agrees to the compensation.

I wish to reiterate that the state government has nothing to do with the eviction, or the Federal court order and the bringing in of bulldozers to demolish the houses. Instead the state government had intervened to prevent the eviction of the residents since last year. Even though this is a court order obtained by the developer, the state government would continue to work aggressively to try to assist the villagers.

  2. Kg. Buah Pala has become a political football for Waythamoorthy and Uthayakumar. They have pounced on this issue as a godsend to score political points.

Why have these 2 brothers kept silent on the real culprits – Koh TS and BN while using harsh words on Lim Guan Eng and PR? Are they trying to score some points with BN now that they are going to form a new political party to capitalize on Hindraf?

I have predicted that Hindraf will veer towards BN as the race-based politics of BN is a better fit to Hindraf than PR. However the Indian community will not benefit from the race-based system which Hindraf is helping BN to propogate.

    I’ve given a fuller explanation at: http://en.suarakeadilan.com/current-news/human-rights/2009/07/10765

  6. State government has many options to teach developers like in providing water, rubbish collection and road access services. LGE should be tough against developers from day one.

Indians have been cheated by MIC and BN for last 52 years, it’s naive to say Hindarf is leaning toward UMNO for same feathers flocking together reasoning.

Hindraf and other rakyats can voice their opinions against Penand state government under the democratic society. Mind you, state government is not DAP who is practicing authoritarian leadership under LKS and LGE.

  7. After the lightning quick registration of political parties from the Hindraf fold, I think many observers are adopting the wait and see attitude vis-a-vis the direction these Hindraf vehicles take. PSM took more than 14 years. You do the maths…..

I expect these parties to work hard in drawing away the Indian votes from PR, and in the put BN back in power. They don’t even have to vote BN, just demonise PR. See how they have avoided questioning BN and the ones really responsible for the whole episode till now?

That would be the price for their release from ISA. I hope I am proven wrong.

  9. YAB LGE is doing his utmost best to help the Kampung Buah Pala villagers. In spite of this, the “so-called” hindraf group, who criticises YAB LGE, has been inflitrated by the BN collaborators. They just want to make BN happy. They are blinded and are unable to see the culprit, the backdoor listed minister, who created the Kampung Buah Pala crisis.

Backdoor listed minister, come back to Penang to clear your s***. Do not run away from the villagers. If you do not face them now, eventually you will have to face them unless you have planned not to stand in Penang in GE13.

  11. I agree with Kenny Gan.The land transfer is during UMNO/GERAKAN rule in Penang. Its not during DAP/PAKATAN.Remember the files gone missing after Pakatan form State Goverment. And the UMNO Exco who hold the Land Portfolio refuse to hand in the file and say LGE can get it from file copies. These c**** are the one to be blame. This is their work. Why Kooooh Suuuu Kooooon chicken out.He should come out and answer these scandle and Not LGE.Why Hindraf never take banner agaist KSK/UMNO?Its shows that these Hindraf leaders are short minded and knowledge. They should do homework before commenting on any issues. I had a high respect on these Hindraf leaders before but know i think they are pushing all their sacrifices and affords to the … drain. They will never get anything by turning their support to UMNO/BN.This will make the UMNO/BN more arrogant and look down to our community as laughing stock. Can hindraf win any state or parlimeny seaton their own if these movement is registered as a political party by ROS?It will be another Nallakarupan Party.A failure! As and indian , i think Hindraf leaders should think wisely the pro and contra of their actions.Dont follow emotional only for its not going to give any benefit.Indian community in this country is already torn a part due to MIC failure to uphold the indian community under it after the absent of Tun VT Sambanthan and Tan Sri Manika. And Than comes IPF than 2 IPF, than Hindraf than Nallakarupan than Hindraf 2 than PPP than PPP2 and the list go on…as many indians are also in PKR,DAP, PAS,PSM and so on. Can Indian contest in one stste seat and win by themselves. Think Hindraf?

  12. Hindraf dare not to speak against UMNO. In the first place, UMNO get the land cheaply and the developer wants to curry UMNO and trade another land for this.

If this is a fishy action, why Hindraf did not ask MACCA to investigae the fishy deal? Why ask Penang Government to complain? Hindraf thinks that the Government has nothing to do? Hindraf has lawyers too. There are millions in the state and they have many other things to care. Exapmle, 30M can bring better transportation, solve garbage and flood.

Penang State Govt shud pay each of the villager RM1 million in compensation and also pay HINDRAF the same amount for goodwill payment in order for Indian to vote PR in the next General Election.

Now, at least knowing there is still a sensible leader in HINDRAF, rather than a fake HERO who is barking everywhere, expect EVERYONE to do good for Indian community except himself, who merely watch from the sideline, instigate the villagers, open his mouth talk big but with no substance at all.

  21. LGE or KTK….if the government does not impose the law of the land. Look at the illegals temples at Tanjung Tokong, Pearl Hill, Fettes Park..ever expanding illegally. When it is time to pull them down, the people would cite religious prosecution, and makes all sorts of racists and religious remarks.
look at the illegal restaurants/coffeshops/hawker stalls along Jalan Sungai Kelian, Jalan Tanjung Tokong and Jalan Lembah Permai…the MPPP does not take any action.By the time it takes action, the occupants would cite racial prosecution, claiming they have the right to occupy and conduct business illegally.
