Mahathir quits Umno: What’s next - Umno Baru Baru?
So the man who established Umno Baru in 1988 quits the party he founded in a huff.
Now this comes just a few days after he and a string of his cronies were accused of involvement in the fixing of appointments of judges.
Over the last few months, Mahathir has watched from the sidelines as his house of cards, built over 22 years, came tumbling down. All that waste and corruption and cronyism and superficial nation building during his administration finally came home to roost. The last straw was probably the release of the findings of the royal commission report on the Lingam Tape.
When I sent the news to a friend that Mahathir was leaving Umno, I received the following message in response: “And form Umno Baru Baru?”
Another friend joked, in a text message: “He is joining PKR :-)”
Later he sent another message: “You know Umno is in trouble when the r__s start abandoning ship.”
The sandiwara continues - but I can only see Pakatan Rakyat growing stronger as Umno founders like the Titanic after hitting an iceberg, sinking inch by inch. The diehard band (on the Fourth Floor?) plays on but the passengers are scurrying helter skelter to abandon ship. But are there enough life-boats to go around?
Is this the beginning of the end for Umno? What will Mukhriz do now? Is Najib all alone now? Will Razaleigh make his move now? I can only imagine the factionalism deepening ahead of the party polls at the end of December.
But can we discount the Mahathir camp altogether? Surely he has a trick or two up his sleeve. Can we just expect him to remain a passive observer in the months leading to the Umno polls? His move could be aimed at heightening the sense of crisis within Umno, thereby making it easier for Abdullah Badawi’s rivals to launch a challenge for the top post. And if the rival aligned to Mahathir triumphs in the party election, would the Mahathir camp return to Umno as Mahathir himself has suggested they would once Abdullah is ousted?
It ain’t over till it’s over.
Meanwhile, what kind of impact will this have on the Sabah MPs who are already making their presence felt and making all kinds of veiled demands?
- End of the road for BN’s reforms?

- Ku Li tells 1,000-strong crowd he is going for top post after Mahathir quits Umno

Tunku and Tun Hussien left the UMNO mahathir created, because they had total disdain for what mahathir was doing. mahathir is now leaving the party he has created himself, because he could not get his way.
He hopes others will follow his example. It would be good to see how much of a support he has in UMNO. AAB now has the opportunity to put mahathir to rest for good, at least in UMNO.
mahathir’s arrogance knows no bound. This arrogance is a result of his bloated self-confidence in himself. He has convinced himself that he can do no wrong and his logic supasses all others’.
The logic and confidence which are built with no moral and spiritual foundation are now tumbling down. Malaysia is on the path recovery from 2 decades of decadence. There is hope for Malaysia
TDM urged all leaders to follow….how about his son Mukhriz.”Like father like son”?
His quitting might have positive effects to those (good guys) who need to revive UMNO; he should take cognizance of this, at least for his boys’ sake. It might even stave off further deterioration in wealth retention. It’s not all about money but it’s got a lot to do with money.
What’s grim is, if he can’t have it, can anyone?
Surely! He must have taught a lot of people that, if he was explicit enough.
The old guy does forget.
When the old UMNO was deregistered, Tunku and Tun Hussein did not join the UMNO Baru. In 1990 elections they were supporting Tengku Razaleigh and Semangat 46.
Let him join MIC, Sammy Vellu. I think that will be fine. Shahrir says we may go for a new election, I can tell you Pakatan will sweep, may be apart from UMNO museum, Johor. But this time round, PR under Anwar who is eligable to stand will carry the day with 2/3 majority. Mark my words.
It will be UMNO Tulen
Let the Hockien Lang pronounce it.
well, if that’s the best for UMNO, so be it…We must also admit Pak Lah is not doing a good job…Everyone knows that but nobody dares to speak up boldly and do the nececessary action. No one seems capable of telling Pak Lah whatever he is doing is effecting the nation of malaysia negatively…At least Tun Mahathir is bold and man enough to speaks his mind, come what may…Many will follow TDM…Believe it…
Why can’t TDM just retire gracefully like all his predecessors. He could have gained more respect from the rakyat by doing so. His resignation may now be better for Pak Lah.who can pick his own team to reform UMNO.
People in Sabah and Sarawak should rally behind Pak Lah giving him a chance to change and strengthen UMNO.
TDM’s recent racial tone has greatly disappointed a lot of Malaysians despite what he has done to modernize Malaysia.
Pak Lah on the other hand is a real Malay gentleman. Has he ever said any harsh word against TDM!? During his last term It was not easy for him to change the mentality of the government servants to reform especially when they were so used to TDM’s style for more than 20 years. The rakyat should give me a chance now. Afteral we have Anwar in waiting if Pak Lah fails!
“What goes around comes around” aptly describes Mahatir’s current situation. What he did to Tunku and Tun Hussein Onn is treason! He deserves to quit!
He is a No 1 Racist. Hope all the Mahatir remnants extinct quickly!
Ain’t god great? Am I seeing light in coming days?
Oh God you are great! And what a day it is to receive such good news..it’s Wesak Day! NAMO AMITABHA!
Do you really believe this old sn*** can gather enough MPs from UMNO to dance with him, at the rhythm of the flute? May be Kuli from Gua Musang and Mukhriz from Kedah, that’s all. He must be still day-dreaming that UMNO without him will collapse like a sand castle. We shall wait and see how many UMNO MPs and ADUNs want to follow him. What so great about his resignation? This old sn*** has freaked out because he knew that the JUDGEMENT day is near. No one can save him. This is karma. In fact, this is a golden chance for PAK LAH to reform UMNO, to cleanse the party thoroughly. If UMNO still were to survive, Pak Lah and his Gang need to throw away the rubbish left by this old sn***. Give the RAKYAT a new Vision and Agenda, may be UMNO can still glow, otherwise, this Racialistic party will still fade as time pass. So Pak Lah, tell your UMNO grassroots that those who are evil must be punished and this is nothing personal.
Mr.anil,
I dont know you also interested very much in politic other than corrupt busting (u are no 1 in this corrupt buster blogs)
anyway dont jump into joy with this old man with selected amnesia.I and some friends (customer with high profile business who studies political game) have a coffee cum cigar/niccotine session.(i did blogs to haris blog and mention my friends teory)
its something as follows because i not going to haris blogs to refresh this for a while until in your blogs settle.
three issue i brought up but one is between i and haris .
1.Tun playing the racial card again-actually we Malaysian in trouble if TUN suceed of kicking out AAB.Why?-please remember TENKU ABDUL RAHMAN TIME.unless the political will of malay is matured this teory wont work if not we are real in trouble.
2.Pakatan Rakyat wont form the goverments- (i didnt elaborate this in haris blogs)- Umno control indirectly most of glc companies-umno cash rich, its matter of time who bought over who.Hishamudin did indicate a bit about Perak - Pakatan won by very thin margin and the majority winner is not malay-umno malay based party-they can insult the sultan in Perlis/Terengganu openly but no police report but when comes to Karpal Singh legal point its a big hooo haa by umno.
Finally i hoping and praying this teory by my friends wont happen but its looks like TUN already started to fire the first salvo and if TUN succeed we Malaysian really looking for trouble.
rajraman666.keeping my finger cross and hoping the malays wont fall trap into umno baru baru baru.
There is a small possibility Badawi will quit. But that will depend on the number following TDM. If big enough Badawi has no reason to stay.
The Magnificent 7 Shall Ride Again:
1. Maha Rama Firaun I
2. Diam Diam Zorro The Fox
3. Former Minister for Transmile & PKZ
4. Wigs Samy A/L P.Kottai
5. rAPidfire Iron Lady
6. LK Yak, Minister for Indian Rubber Estates and Bushes
7. Rosemajib, Ambassador to Mongolia
with youth wing headed by Kerismudin.
Ride em, Ride em, Ride em!
To suspend the Constitution, sack the RCI, bring back the old NEP, more ISA Mohd/OSA arrests. The new Credo - Cronyism, Some More Equal Than Otheism and Lootism.
can’t wait for th ereturn of the good old days!!
Could mahathir do this as a pre-emptive move? Could he have got wind of AAB wanting to take him to court on the Lingam’s tapes affair? He is doing this as a distraction and to dis-stabilise the government so that he can get off scot-free.
I support no party and am neither a Mahathir or AAB sympathiser, but Mahathir’s problem is clearly only AAB, not Umno. So why quit Umno? So much for leading the party for 22 years! If he wants to reform the damn party so much and loves Umno as much as he’s said all this while, why quit just because of your miserable, incompetent predecessor? I’m not a member of Umno but what does that say about someone who quits then says he’s only going to come back when there’s a leadership change? AND he invites party leaders to join him as well?
I would be saying the same thing about Kit Siang, Karpal, Guan Eng or Anwar if they left their respective parties after leading it for 22 years. I don’t think it says very much about a former leader if he abandons ship because of one miserable person, invites others to come along and imposes conditions for his return.
with TDM playing the racial card, and now with this desparate act of resigning from UMNO, TDM is surely upping the ante and resorting to desparate moves. this is not good for the peace and stability of the country. We can only pray that all Malays remain calm and not be provoked and obey the laws.. Now is the time for prayers…..
This recalcitrant old man is acting up again. He is like a spoilt brat that reacts after not getting his own ways. At 82 what more does he wants? He should fade with dignity and honour into history.
There are many things the Raykat would want to know. Perhaps its time to (declare his assets at home and abroad). There are a lot of things we would like to know in his 22 years of vice-like grip in this country where he had a free reign in everything-from the judiciary and using EPF and Petronas funds as if it were his own.
Maybe all three Ghosts of Hari Raya i.e. past , present and future had paid the old man a visit just before the panel released their findings .
Borrow a bit you space mr.anil,
To,
donplaypuks,

and i do read some of your letters and blogs in malaysiakini.very interesting.you are getting notice.
rajraman.
Either Umno / TDM like it or not, Law of Karma is taking effect now.
Those Umnoputras & TDM who committed sins, should just confess. This is the last good deed that you guys can do.
As you say, “it ain’t over until it’s over”.
Don’t get swayed so easily by what is announced. How do we really know he has really resigned?? Did anyone see his resignation paper? Has it been accepted? Or, will it be rejected due to technicalities? Remember how easily he changed UMNO Baru back to UMNO after it was deregistered.
Should shut up and sit down. He has had his day. Let other people do the job. He has screwed the whole thing!
New party - UMNO the next next generation.
Maybe TDM wants everybody’s sympathys as he had been snubbed and the potential Lingam case which is actually…. so best he concentrate 100% with his bread shop called the loaf at the pavilion. One day he was there in the breadshop for quite a few hours, then krismuddin came and he bypassed him and on that evening jaguar had a function and he was not invited because AAB was the guest of honor. NS royalty was there so you can see what is he worth or how much people cared for him. Did he weigh himself to see what he is really worth??
Malaysiakini reported today that former PM Mahathir has quit Umno. It also reported that former Kedah MB and former Agriculture Minister Sanusi Junid has also quit. It appears to me that Mahathir is trying to use Kurt Lewins philosophy of change management by asking Umno members to leave Umno now but rejoin it after Badawi ‘has left the building’. This is akin to Lewins’ Freeze-Change-Unfreeze mechanism in Managing Change.
The only problem here is that the Umno members by now wouldn’t want to gamble with their political careers but would be pretty enticing and justifiable for them to be Independent MP’s, meaning they are neither BN or Pakatan Rakyat (PR). When this happens, we would actually have an interesting scenario where Pakatan Rakyat will come to power by default without even needing the ‘kataks’ (frogs) as PR will be able to form a minority Government with BN fragmented.
Why to do think former DPM Musa Hitam’s protégé Shahrir Samad is talking about a possible snap election? These UMNO racists will try anything now just to stay in power, as they know their days are numbered. The greatest fear the BN/UMNO politicians and their benefactors have is that when PR comes to power, you can just imagine the amount of dirt the new Pakatan Rakyat government will expose for all to see. You can expect even Bukit Aman to be turned inside out. Even IGP Musa Hassan’s toilet will not be spared. Say your prayers folks, for the Day of Judgement is at hand for BN/Umno and their cronies!
As for Mahathir’s use of Kurt Lewin’s Change Model for Umno, I’m afraid (his) plan will only backfire. You see, Umno, Gapena, Majlis Pemuafakatan Melayu must come to a realization that communal politics in Malaysia is history. No amount of Keris rattling is going to bring Malay support back to Umno. The same goes to non-Malay support for non-Malay BN component parties. Today, a new dawn has come to Malaysia. Today, we call ourselves as Bangsa Malaysia. Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, Eurasians don’t exist in this country any more. It only exists in our DNA. We are Malaysians for Ketuanan Rakyat! We are Bangsa Malaysia! Hidup Malaysia!
Another surprise which is not so surprise from him. Another drama just like he used when announced his resignation.
Why is he so desperate to see AAB to resign quickly? Something is fishy here. Or is he trying to divert the people attention from he and Linggam case?
All this change happening, since prior to elections.. ONLY 2 PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE for all this topsy turvy within UMNO/Barisan - Raja Petra and DSAnwar Ibrahim..
These 2 names have got this mamak and all the UMNO Kutty’s (really worried).. Ha..Ha..Ha..
The time is nearing…
Arrogance, sacarsam, blatant disregard - mamak thought he was great, but he forgot Karma - what goes around comes around..
It’s hitting him hard..Should’ve enjoyed his spoils with his a*** shut, but chose to blabber, now he’s about to reap what he sowed.. Detain him first, before he feigns illness, like heart problem (this moron has a pacemaker)… then prepare Sg Buloh prison for him while Lingam’s case is in motion..
This’ good for nothing ….’s days are numbered.. Once he’s gone, Malaysia will be a better place to live in…
LOT OF BULLS, he is talking about malay future after PRU 12, the malay future is not under threat, in fact it is shifted to PAS and PKR. the reality is his son , Mukhiz ’s future is under threat as they face down with their ultimate nemises ANWAR IBRAHIM. even utterance of anwar’s name, the father and son will leaping like m***** on chili padi. pak lah just an obstacle in the way, they want to plant a lap *** in UMNO for MUKHIZ’s future.
the father will reregister back once the real threat (anwar) is off the list in order the son’s succesion path to UMNO leadership is out of danger. they father and son can cry me a river, playing stupid race cards and jews card, wonder what next SODOMY card again

It is a non event and should be treated as such. A muted response is the best solution. He wants attention. Don’t give it to him.
“He is joining PKR :-)”
if he join PKR WITHOUT any express of regret or admit his wrongdoing, most of the members will go the opposite way or quit the party altogether.
So are we going to see the new revised edition of “The Malay Dilemma” by Mahathir Mohamad, soon?? A true racist to the bone who knows how to use the race and nationalist cards well to his gain. History has shown no mercy to such individuals. Time for him to reap what he sowed forty years ago.
hahahahahaha
umno baru
umno baru baru
umno *aru baru**..
