Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has thrown his weight behind Kelantan’s claim for oil royalties in an impassioned address to a capacity crowd at the Kota Bharu stadium tonight.

“The oil royalty is not about the federal government’s charity payments but the sovereign rights of the states within our Federation,” he said. “I stand here representing only myself. I am here upon principle.”

So there you have it: the Pakatan leaders have come out with a firm stand against “unity talks” with Umno, much to the relief of the many Malaysians who voted for change and reforms in the last general election.

Surely, this must put all those within Pas who initially backed the “unity talks” proposal – notably Hadi and Nasharudin – in an awkward position. It’s time for the party to project leaders who are more open and in touch with the aspirations of the rakyat, namely folks like Husam Musa and Nizar.

How to try and understand what’s going on in Terengganu now?

Follow the money trail, auditors and journalists are often told.

So let’s try that here. What is Terengganu’s main asset? Black Gold. Off shore oil.

And the state’s main revenue source is the oil royalty from Petronas, which the Federal Government used to hand over to the BN state government to spend as it so desired.
