Wishing all of you a very happy Lunar Year. May your coming year be filled with love, peace, joy, compassion and everything good.
And here’s a special message from Rakyat@work:
A New Year gift to Paula Khoo
Date: 28 Jan (3rd day of Chinese New Year)
Venue: Pattani Road Police Station,
Time: 8.00amDear peaceful rakyat of Penang and Malaysia.
Please make time to be with Paula Khoo because she have stood for you, possibly for your children too, in calling for the abolition of the ISA. (She has to report at the police station to find out if the police are going to press charges over her participation in an Abolish ISA vigil.)
Police ordered the participants of an Abolish ISA vigil at the Civic Centre in PJ to disperse minutes after the event had started.
The vigil began at around 8.15pm but about five minutes later the OCPD of PJ ordered the participants to disperse.
“The authorities care a lot for the safety of the rakyat,” reports Rakyat@work, tongue in cheek. “They sent more than two police personnel for every vigil participant.”
Blog reader Adeline reports:
We came late to the vigil and saw only FRU and police personnel rather than ‘vigilers’. Met some ‘vigilers’ at the adjacent car park and was informed the gathering had dispersed. The main road leading to the MBPJ building was blocked off as we approached. There were at least four Black Marias parked at the main road shoulder.
Pure police intimidation. Feel so incomplete without my Sunday Mesra Raykat. We must meet more often!
Adds delCapo:
We actually managed to burn some candles, had one full speech and one short interrupted speech and a round of Negaraku before dispersing peacefully.
Still… it was a case of harrassment, intimidation and violation of the rakyat’s rights.

A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices as Rakyat@work reports from the 11th Abolish ISA vigil in PJ:
Yes, last night was special, last night was different. The united rakyat had a chance to experience and sing O Holy Night together as ONE bangsa. Thanks to a handsome young lad (that would be Sivin Kit!) with a guitar who led the crowd into the season of Christmas. You had to be there to feel it. It was something we hardly experienced before. It was special! Everyone participated either by singing, humming along, or just soaking in the wonderful tune of gratitude and hope.
Ever faithful city councillor Richard Yeoh started the event on time and recited the usual SOP before getting into the event proper. Last night’s event was dedicated to the Sukhree’s passing, and rightly so because of his dedication and commitment to pursuing what is right as a rakyat of Malaysia. We remember him as one of ours and may his soul rejoice with God. A minute’s silence were observed. A friend of Sukhree’s read a poem in remembrance of him and Raja Petra Kamarudin later provided additional information about Sukhree.
