The series of Abolish ISA Masses at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Penang will be taking a break for Christmas and will resume next year.

In the last Abolish ISA Mass for the year, parish priest Fr Marshall Fernandez exhorted the congregation of 80 gathered tonight to pray for a more just judiciary.

Referring to the recent controversy between Karpal and Chief Justice Zaki, Marshall said that a cleaner judiciary would provide justice for all.

Meanwhile, all the prayers and various campaigns to Abolish the ISA and free the detainees are having an impact.

Seremban folks welcome their guest-of-honour at last night’s vigil

“ISA should be discarded into the Straits of Malacca!”

Photos by Rakyat@Work, whose camera battery was threatening to run out at the high points of the vigil.  (Rakyat woke up at 11.00am today after a long and exhausting day – and night – “at work” yesterday!)

Tomorrow’s vigils:

Date: Sunday, 9 Nov 2008 (Sunday)
Time: 8.00pm
Venue: Taman D R Seenivasagam, Ipoh (Map) and near Amcorp Mall, PJ

These Abolish ISA vigils are making a difference. All three ISA detainees arrested in recent weeks have now been freed – but there are 65 others. One by one, we will get them out.

Last night’s vigil in Seremban was encouraging for two reasons: the presence of more Malays, lending a more multi-ethnic face to the campaign against the ISA, and of course, the arrival of the special guest, the just-released ISA detainee, RPK.

Blog reader Angela Ooi of Seremban reflects:

Thank you everyone who came for our second vigil. We, Seremban folks, could not believe our luck having our beloved RPK spend time with us almost piping hot from his Kamunting cell. Earlier, I had asked Marina what message she had for the Seremban vigil.

She replied, “No message except I will bring Pete to them when he is free.”

Teresa Kok: “I didn’t do anything wrong” (Photo courtesy of her blog)

Just off the phone with Teresa Kok and she sounds happy to be back.

I asked her if the police had given her a tough time and kept her awake at night with interrogations and all the usual things they tend to do with ISA detainees.

She said, “No, because I hadn’t done anything wrong. They couldn’t find anything.”

Anyway, she was delighted to hear that so many people had been praying for her release.

Blog reader gregwar sends this prayer:

A Prayer for Teresa

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
He lets me see a country of justice and peace
and directs my steps towards his land.

He gives me new power.
He guides me in the paths of victory,
as he has promised.

Even if a full-scale violent confrontation breaks out
I will not be afraid Lord,
if you are with me.
Your shepherd’s power and love protects me.

You prepare for me my freedom,
where all my enemies can see it;
you welcome me as an honoured guest
and fill my cup with righteousness and peace.

I know that your goodness and love will
be with me all my life;
and your liberationg love will be my home
as long as I love.

- Psalms and Sermons” (World Council of Churches)
