A crowd of about 100 has turned up for a ‘picnic’ at the Butterworth sea-front to support the Bersih demands for electoral reforms ahead of a general election.
Just over a month after a large rally in Kuala Lumpur to demand clean and fair elections rattled Malaysia’s ruling elite, Prime Minister Najib Razak has announced that a bipartisan parliamentary select committee will be set up to review the electoral system. Ten Malaysians detained at KL Sentral as Najib arrived were taken to the Travers Police Station for their statements to be recorded. They were later released unconditionally at around 6.00pm.
